Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"They should hand out maps after people pop," Katara said lightly. "Along with orientation scrolls."

"We have them on the omnicoms, though you'll probably have to learn how to work them first," said Negi, holding up the com in his hands.

Katara held up her own - she'd gotten it on the way in, along with the ring, but she'd taken them in a daze. "Oh. Yes. I suppose...so all of the information is on this machine?"

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah it is. It's really easy to use mind you." replied Negi. "I can show you how to navigate it."

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"That would be much appreciated," Katara smiled. She held hers out. "We don't have this sort of technology, where I am from. Our way of life is a bit...simpler, I guess the word would be."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Negi nodded, remembering what Kaya had told him about her world. "That's true. Though they're made to be easily used, so walking through the functions can take less than thirty minutes tops."

"Sounds simpler than learning how to bend water," Katara said. Learning how to do that had taken a nice long while, despite the fact that it was an innate ability. Then again, it had taken her awhile to find a teacher who was willing to teach her. After that, it had been cake.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah it really is. At least then you'd be able to keep an eye on what goes on." Negi smiled as he turned his around and began to demonstrate a few things, keyboard and maps and such.

Katara watched as Negi showed her the ins and the outs of the omnicomm, making mental notes and the such. "This is really quite fascinating," she said.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's not too hard to figure out. Just a few keys here and there." Negi grinned. At least it was easy to get along with her, right?

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara was nothing if not warm and friendly. Unless she had a grudge against you, but that didn't seem as though it was going to happen any time soon. Katara grinned back at Negi. "So, do you have any special powers or anything?" she asked, in an effort to get to know Negi. She'd heard from Kaya that a lot of people on board had some kind of special power, or that they were normal, everyday people who could do something brave or special.

He nodded, smiling. "I'm a mage," he said, still feeling the awkward tingle of how easily he admitted this now. Normally the need to keep it a secret would be weighing on him, but here it really was okay. "I can cast magic of various types."

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
"That must be a fun ability to have," Katara remarked. "When did you discover you could do that?"

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh I've known since I was born actually. I went to school for it, and learned magic since then," replied Negi.

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"That's amazing!" Katara exclaimed. She wished she'd had something like that back home. Granted, there had been many reasons why the Southern Water Tribe hadn't when Katara was young, the most obvious of which had been that all of their benders, save Katara, had been killed. "You must be very good at what you do, then."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, well studying's my forte really," admitted Neg, rubbing his head and chuckling a bit. "I'm better at research and development than I am at combat."

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"I like researching," Katara nods. "But I also like learning various ways in using my powers, you know?" She really did like to practice her waterbending. She was good at it, and she took pride in that. "Have you been involved in a lot of the combats that have risen around here?"

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Quite a few, here and there." Negi rubbed his arm thinking about Kain in particular. "There were a lot of fights where I had to give it my all. Even then I was beaten up."

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Ouch. I'm sorry," Katara said. "I've had fights like that before. It was never fun."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." He neglected to mention that he had thrown a couple of them, just to protect people. "At least everything turned out all right."

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
She probably would have admired that he had done that. Protecting people - even if you had to lose a fight to protect them - was a noble thing to do. "My grandmother once told me that things always have a way of righting themselves. I don't know how much of that was true or not, but I sometimes believe that she may have been correct."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
"If that's true, then I'm due in for a lot of stuff," chuckled Negi.

[identity profile] wet-and-riled.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Katara laughed. "You may just find yourself lucky, yet."
