Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Machines that can fly? How do they do that?" Could she do that? Her earliest dream was of flying, of the wind beneath her full sized wings, supporting a much larger body in the air. Effortless. Could she do that? Fly?

Kali kept pace, curious and interested. The General's friendship with her father was making more and more sense as she spoke, a warrior. A general, someone that could be respected and treated like an equal. It made sense. She was starting to like this woman as well.

"I only know a little bit of the theory," Trudy said. "You'd be better off asking one of the scientists or reading up in the media library on principles of flight, but most of our craft manage it with propulsion rockets. There's no air in space so aerodynamics isn't much of a concern unless you're going to be fighting in atmosphere - which all of our craft can do in a pinch. But if you're flying in air it has to do with the wing shape, and how much lift you can generate, something like that."

Trudy wasn't much of a scientist. She knew enough to manage her ship and the fleet, to know which upgrades were going to help and which ones were a waste of time, but more complex than that and she was lost.

Kali followed absolutely none of that, and it was likely obvious from the look on her face that Trudy might as well have been speaking another language.

"...I...very well...If you say so."

Trudy laughed a little - kindly, not making fun of her. "Sorry. Sometimes I forget how long Kang's been here. He's picked up a lot about how the ship works and how all the technology works, I'm sure he'd teach you. He'd probably be better at knowing how to teach you anyway."

She also sometimes forgot that kids weren't just miniature adults and didn't know some things. It's not like she was around kids very often. "Here we go," Trudy said, and pushed open the door to one of the rooms, walking inside.

It was sparely decorated. One of the beds looked slept in, the other one had a green blanket thrown across it. Various wooden figurines and some pictures were the only decoration - Trudy was in a couple of the pictures herself. She smiled as she spotted the picture of them with Eva and Goliath in the bar on Xaxing. The only other item of note in the room were books, mostly of technology or history, with some strategy.

"He doesn't bunk with anyone, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you used the bed," she said.

Kali accepted the laughter without complaint. She would be a student here, this place had already proven that to her. "It is fine, I do not mind. I simply...did not understand anything you were speaking of. But yes, my uncle is a very good teacher and I am sure he will bring me to an acceptable level of education as soon as he returns."

Kali froze in the doorway, eyes closing as she absorbed the smell of her father. He had been here. He had been here and she had not been able to be certain of it until this moment, with his smell and his presence rushing out to great her.

Her shoulders relaxed automatically, wings unfurling from their tight bundle. She did not even look at the pictures for a moment.

Her father was here.

He had been here, he would return. This was his place.

"Papa...." The word was a whisper, and unless Trudy was paying attention, she would definitely miss it, it was barely more than an exhalation as she forced herself to straighten and walk deeper into the room. This was his place. It smelled of him, it displayed him in tiny touches that only he would make.

Pictures, painting of people she had met on the ship, and other strangers she had not met yet but must be dear to him to be so displayed. "Thank you, General."

"Call me Trudy."

Now that the kid was dropped off safely, she could get back to other things... like writing Kang and letting him know he had family awake. "If you want to sleep here, like I said, Kang wouldn't mind. But if you get lonely and you want to have someone around, page Eva on the omnicomms." Trudy took down the picture of the four of them at the bar and pointed Eva out. "She lives down in the City with her son and some of her son's friends, and Kang trusts her."

No one here liked being referred to by rank and title, it was rather strange. "Thank you again, I likely will." She followed the finger to the picture, studying the woman and committing her face to memory. Yes, that would do. Friends of her father. It was a bit of a relief to have visual conformation of what she had been told.

This was a good place, she could practically feel her father lingering in the room, as strange as it was. It was strange to smell him with no overlay of her mother's scene, but this was hi place. She was certain her mother and siblings would wake soon and all would be well and normal.

She would need to tell Nanaki, and perhaps message Age to let them both know where she was and that she had found her father. "Did he tell you anything else I should do?"

"I think 'stay out of trouble' just about covers it," Trudy said. She didn't say that Kang had been awake so long by himself that he'd almost given up on his family podpopping. It just didn't seem like the thing to say.

"If you're all right on your own, I'm going to head back to the Obs Deck. Just remember the Hub if you need to go anywhere. All the major places in the ship can be reached through the Hub."

She smiled, considering for a moment how Yana or Brevo would have handled such broad instructions, and how quickly they would have created their own interpretation, or how quickly Grosk may have ended up in trouble without intending to. Her father was lucky that it was her and not one of the others. "Thank you, I shall do my best to conform to the new rules of this place."

She nodded, giving a shallow bow. "Thank you for your help, General, and for your guidance. I will not keep from from your soldiers any longer than I already have."
