Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Thank you for the assistance, sir, could you direct me to them? I would appreciate further aid."

"Have you been given one of these devices yet?" The Chancellor indicates the omnicomm

Kali slid her hand into her bag, producing the required device. Pockets were useful for more than simply looking pretty, it was an argument she and Yana had had many times over the years. Yana preferred simple things, or armor. Kali adored pockets and pouches and places to hide things. Better to keep others from realizing what you had, better to carry a large number of things and leave hands free for other tasks.

"This, Chancellor? Yes, as well as the ring. But I do not know how they work, might they provide me with some assistance?"

"Most certainly." And he begins to show her how the technology works, in much the same patient-but-not-patronizing manner he showed the medieval humans that became the Empire how to use similar technology. The communications, and particularly, accessing the Maps.

"So you see," he says eventually. "Here is the City."

Maps. She knew maps, but this was nothing like Krynn or any map she had seen before. She leaned, patient and willing to soak up the new information. "The city. I thought this was a ship of some sort, is it large enough to hold an entire city? Is the woman the pilot?"

Her tail drifted behind her, slowly, wings relaxing a bit as she leaned in to take in the lesson with the attentiveness of someone more than willing to be taught. "How can a city fit on a ship, Chancellor?"

[identity profile] ternaui.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
"It can be done. With certain power sources, a ship can be a vast size, and still travel faster than can be easily described. But That Woman--" Oh, there's some contempt there. "--is no ordinary pilot. She is an intelligence buried in the ship itself."

"How is such a thing accomplished?" She frowned very slightly at the contempt. Well, that was interesting. The same tonal indicators her father used when speaking of dragons. "What has she done to you, Chancellor?"

"The feats of engineering involved are, I am afraid, not my specialty."
The Chancellor sighs slightly.
"...I have been on a ship like this before, young lady. For a long time. I thought I was free for good. In many ways, STA'C K'LTRRB'TXFT is less cruel, but in one... I was not a father then. My daughters are down there, where you were, and there is nothing I can do about it."

"I imagine I will learn more by doing than hearing it explained."

She watched him, an attentive child who had experience listening. That had been one of her father's favorite methods of teaching. One of the very first lessons he taught her. Know when to speak, think of the words to say, and know when to stay silent and listen.

"They are still sleeping?" She quieted, hovering at his elbow. "My brothers and sisters, my mother as well." She looked down, wings tightening briefly around her shoulders, before lifting her gaze again. "Perhaps they will wake up together? I am sure they will, Chancellor. They are all strong, and I am certian they know we are waiting for them. For the moment, waiting is the only choice we have, but that may yet change." Know how to say it, know what to say. She hoped her father would be proud.

A pause as he takes that in, and then a slow, fangy smile. "An excellent point, young lady.... do you like venison?"

[identity profile] shynotmeek.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do." She smiled, wings unfurling more as she preened under the praise. "Are there deer here as well, Chancellor?"

[identity profile] ternaui.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I managed to acquire some."
