Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Guns?" Daja asked, her brows furrowing in confusion. "I'm not familiar with any kind of weapon by that name - you say it is a projectile weapon?" Daja knew that other worlds possessed many weapons that she had never heard of, but she had always been more concerned with weapons forged by smithing, and so she hadn't paid too much attention to them. "If it is made of metal though, I imagine that I could use my magic."

As she watched his face fall, Daja felt a pang of sympathy for the young man. Whoever he was, he was alone, and Daja knew how that felt. "It's no trouble at all," she reassured him. "Besides, I know my sister - she would insist that I help you. And I can always answer questions while I keep an eye out for her."

"Dunno, really. Don't really do much with those sort of things," Ron returned with a lame shrug. "Reckon it's made of metal, dad doesn't deal with them unless someone decides to tamper with it--" And he quirks a brow with a slight, curious tilt of the head. "'Sides, why would it need to be metal for you to use magic? It's not like magic can't be used all the time."

Yeah, he... has no idea what ambient mages are.

Ron's features were still set in a frown, but if she was going to offer help, well there was one thing he wouldn't mind. Since he was young his resorting method of dealing with stress was either sulking or playing Quidditch. And while he doubted there was any sort of methods for that, well, he at least had the broom, right? "Well, if you're so insistent don't suppose you know a good place to fly around here, do you?" He shifted the broom on his shoulder as if in explanation. Hey, she said magic so he's going to assume she knows all about flying broomsticks.

"Because I am a smith mage," Daja said, amused. Even in her world, the nature of ambient mages was lesser known, so she was used to having to explain on occasion. "Different worlds can have different kinds of magic, and on mine some mages draw their power from ordinary things, like plants or thread or the winds. My own magic is rooted in fire and metal."

She eyed the broom, curious - why would someone have a broom amoung their possessions? It was a strange thing to be carrying around, even if she could see flecks of magic in it. Why magic a broom?

"Fly?" she asked, confused. "But how? Does your magic allow you to do so?"

"Er--" Ron started rather haphazardly, mage definitely not quite a word he was familiar with. Thankfully for him, Daja explained it although his brows furrowed and he shook his head in slight good nature. "Sounds a bit mental if you ask me. Magic's just magic where I come from."

When she turned her curious eyes to him a brow shot up and there was a small smirk as he shrugged and moved the broomstick off his shoulder.

"Not really. Spells and enchantments are put on broomsticks, reckon anyone could ride it even a Muggle. Loads of time goes into developing them. This here's a Comet. S'not the best, but it's brilliant..." Another nonchalant shrug, another word more and he might just start going off about Quidditch.

"Perhaps magic has less variation in your world?" Daja said, considering. "Or your magic may be more similar to that of academic mages. But I have encountered people from other worlds with strange magics that were beyond anything I ever thought possible in my own. There are even worlds where magic does not exist at all!" And impossible thing still, in Daja's mind.

"So you can enchant broomsticks so that anyone can trap them?" Daja asked, fascinated. "And yet no wind magic is involved at all?" she peered closer at the broom, wondering what kind of spell could call it to levitate like that. "Why a broomstick? It's not the first object I would think to use as a flying device, I must admit."
