Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Marco swore. Great. Just great. As if trying to explain everything that had happened with Tom wasn't hard enough - now he had to start from the beginning? And explain everything about the ship as well, all over again?

"Okay, you used to be here before. You were - how old are you now? Whatever you are, you sure as hell look older now, so when you were here before you were younger. Stacy's fun like that. She likes to pull people from different times and mess with their heads."

Marco took a deep breath. Okay, time to just...start talking. "It's good to see you too, man. But I gotta tell you something. It's about Tom." He paused eying Jake and considering. He wasn't sure if he wanted to tell Jake about Rachel if he hadn't seen her die yet. But he did look older than Marco ever remembered seeing him. "...And Rachel."

"Nineteen. Almost twenty," Jake's reply was automatic. It was strange - he really was that young, but he din't feel like it. The years of his life he was supposed to have spent playing basketball and worrying about grades and school were spent fighting a war. He'd seen and done more then most kids his age would in a lifetime.

"And... I know. They're alive and on the ship."

Which was a relief. It also brought a sickening sense of dread and anticipation. How was he supposed to confront the two people he wished he could bring back from the dead?
livestoannoy: (Sorry?)

Nineteen. The same age Marco used to be. How was that for irony? They might as well have switched places.

"Wait, you do? How? Did you already talk to Ax?" Marco asked, blinking. He'd been all geared up to try and explain things to Jake and now it turned out that someone else already had. "Did he tell you that Tom's free now?"

[identity profile] hadabrother.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I talked to Ax. And ran into the Yeerk."

But at least Tom was free.

"...yeah, I heard that."

He tried not to let on how much that news was affecting him. It was hard, but he managed with a slightly forced smile.

"So, what's the deal with this place, anyway? Aside from the usual save the world kinda stuff."

Marco scowled (which tended to happen whenever Iniss came up in conversation), before he remember just how little he'd been able to do anything to stop Iniss, and his face fell. "I'm sorry, man. We should have found a way to free Tom earlier. Hell, we should have at least found at way to stop him from stealing Tom's face. Most we could do was mess up his face a little so he wouldn't look exactly like Tom."

He rubbed his nose, and sighed. There was a hell of a lot to tell. "Well, apparently we're saying the multiverse instead of just the world this time, for one. The ship's alive and calls herself Stacy, and she was made by these guys called the Daligig. Supposedly, she saved us when our worlds were destroyed by the Ohm, which conveniently means no one has anywhere else to go to. And since Stacy doesn't seem to discriminate at all about who she picks up, we've have a few nutjobs here with us as well. Not to mention guys like Iniss. There's a Council who act as a government, but you sure as hell can't trust them either. They voted to keep Tom infested rather than making Iniss get the hell out, because according to them as someone gets 'decides' to stay enslaved, it's okay! Never mind the fact that Tom's a mess and he was basically coerced into it."

[identity profile] hadabrother.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, these people sounded fun. Or not. More like a certain Andalite High Command he'd had to deal with a few years ago. And still did, to an extent.

"Well, that's convenient for them, considering they weren't the ones fighting the war against those slugs..." Jake gritted his teeth and then forced himself to calm down.

"...it's alright. I'm just..."

Glad? Happy? Excited? Worried? Nervous?

"...glad to hear that TOm's finally free. Here and now, anyway."

He'd let the past stay the past, or at least try to. He shook his head.

"I think I'm going to have to talk with this council, just to make sure they're on the same page regarding us."
livestoannoy: (Why yes I'm going to be sarcastic)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-07-02 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"They didn't even listen. They acted as if anyone we had to say was meaningless, just because we were 'biased'. As if three years of fighting these guys meant nothing. They wouldn't even listen to Mom, and she knows the Yeerks better than anyone. They're too busy trying to justify their rule that no one should be convicted to crimes committed on their own world that they won't even consider any information about what people did before they woke up here at all."

Marco? Bitter? No.

"Good luck with that. They'll probably declare that because you're brother was a Controller you just hate Yeerks so much that you couldn't possibly think at all rationally about them," he said, sarcastic.

[identity profile] hadabrother.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"If they do that, we hit them back. Somehow," Jake replied, lips set into a thin line, jaw clenched as he considered his options. "We outsmarted the Andalites, we can figure out something else with these people. Just igve me some time. Besides, they need to know that no one is sending any of us into harm's way. Not you, not me, not Cassie or Ax or Tobias or Rachel. The only one who gets to make that kind of call about the Animorphs is-"

Him.

"...me. Us. I don't want us getting killed because someone on their stupid Council thought we'd be useful."
livestoannoy: (Thinking)

[personal profile] livestoannoy 2011-07-02 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Dude, it's not that simple," Marco cautioned, looking around to make sure no one nearby was listening in. "The ship, Stacy? She's the real power here. The Council might be in charge, but they still can't go against her, and neither we can we. She's the one who sends people on missions. She also won't let crew kill each other, and if anyone does something she doesn't like and gets enough Violations, she gives them Punishment. Know what Punishment is? Torture. Public torture, in front of the whole crew. Believe me, it's not pretty. And right now? We have nothing to gain from moving against the Council, or even Iniss. Tom's free, Jake. And right now, there are no Controllers. As much as I like to fantasize about it sometimes, we can't just 'hit back' at them for being complete jerks."

He folded his arms, thinking. He did want to tell Jake about Kang and Intelligence, but not here. Hell, just talking about possible taking on the Council was more than Marco wanted to do in public like this. And if knowledge of Intelligence got out there, it wasn't just Kang that could go down - Rachel and Ax could go down with him. "Look, there's more to tell you, but not here. This isn't exactly secure."

Jake listened. As much as he hated to think about it, Marco was right. They were alone in alien territory (which wasn't quite that far removed from their old situation), against insurmountable odds. They needed patience. A calm head. He needed to reign himself in.

He brushed a hand through his hair with a sigh. "Yeah. You're right. Just fill me in later, alright? I want to know what we're dealing with. I just... I'm tired of being jerked around all the time. And it's good to see you again."

He paused.

"...even if you are a bit shorter than I remember."

"What's that Jake? Sorry, I couldn't hear you. I was too busy being struck by how old you are," Marco said, completely ignoring the fact that he'd been nineteen himself not that long ago in favour of making fun of Jake. "You know I think you're even getting some wrinkles. Any moment now you'll start playing bingo and complaining about the kids these days."

"Bingo? Really? You think I'd play bingo? That hurts, Marco."

This he could deal with. It was almost like being back home again. Except for the living ship and the really weird statue in the corner.

"What else are you going to do in your old age?" Marco teased. "Play lawn bowls? Backgammon? Start a stamp collection?"

[identity profile] hadabrother.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Shake my cane at people and tell stories about what life was like back when we din't live in giant ships made of meat," Jake quipped in response. This was familiar and it helped him calm down a bit. At least his best friend was here.

Jake, you didn't know how much Marco had missed having his best friend around. It just wasn't the same without him there to make fun of.

Not to mention he and Rachel tended to butt heads even more than usual when Jake wasn't there.

"Ah, yes. The good old days, when we lived in a valley surrounded by walking salad shooters instead."
