Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"I'm not wearing that thing," Donna declared, looking decided pissed off. "It's creepy. And who decided to give that out anyway? Did they think about giving us real clothes at all, or did they just decide that no, we needed to have something that looks like it's walked about of a bad science fiction convention? I can't just wonder around in a wedding dress!"

He's not entirely sure what the woman means by 'science fiction convention', but one look at her face and he decides that maybe, just maybe, it'd not be such a good idea to ask right now.

"Aye, well, you're lucky. At least you'll be able to get clothes. I was lucky to get my kilt when I first woke up." He tucks his thumbs behind the belt around his waist, fingers resting atop the sporran that's attached to it. "There's a place in the city where you'll be able to have something made for ye if ye need it."

"That is a very nice kilt," Donna said, tilting her head in acknowledgment. "Would be a shame to loose it. But what's this about a city? I thought they said this was a 'spaceship'," Donna brought up the hand not holding the box to make mock quotation marks in the air, as if she didn't really believe that theory.

Sure, back home people kept talking about the day when planets had appeared in the sky and aliens had appeared, but Donna hadn't seen that herself. Madness, that's what it was. And even if aliens did exist, people didn't just suddenly wake up in their ships without knowing how they got there, did they?
bonnypiperlad: (So...)

"Thank ye," replies Jamie, preening just a little at the compliment. He settles down almost immediately, however, because it seems explanations are in order, as mad as they're likely to sound to the woman.

"No, they're right. Stacy is a spaceship. She's just a wee bit bigger than your average spaceship, that's all." The Scot's very matter-of-fact about the situation, being quite used to the idea of them being in space. Well, the Bleed most times, but it's easier for him to think of it as space.

"I know it sounds daft, but it's true. The city's a level down from here."

"Oh, and you'd know about the 'average spaceship', would you?" Donna said, scoffing gently. Then she looked down at her box, and sighed.

"This can't be happening, you know," she declared. "There is no way that the Earth is just...gone. What about my family?"
bonnypiperlad: (Look...)

"You'd be surprised," Jamie says dryly. He's about to go on an explain just what it is he knows about spaceships when Donna brings up her family. The faint humor in his expression disappears, and he gives Donna a sympathetic look instead.

"Aye, well, we've been told that our loved ones are in the pods, so there's a good chance they're there." It's something that may be hard to believe, however, so he adds, "A few people have been lucky enough to have those they've cared about wake up, so I'd say that's a good indication we were told the truth about that."
prattlingvoice: (What?)

[personal profile] prattlingvoice 2011-07-02 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
"So they're still there in those pods? There's more people down there, sleeping?" Donna said. "What are we all doing standing around here for then? We need to get them out!"

Jamie can understand the drive behind those words - once upon a time, he might have very well gone along with her to have a go at it himself. But now, he simply shakes his head. "It won't work. Unless Stacy releases someone, ye can't get them out of those things. People have tried before, and I've not heard of any who've been able to do it."

He gives her a sympathetic look. "I know, I don't care for it either, but maybe it's for the best. At least they're safe where they are."

Well, barring any more zombie attacks. But they're safer, even so.

"We can't just do nothing!" Donna said, spreading her free hand wide. Then she stopped, and looked at Jamie. "What do you mean, 'at least they're safe where they are'? What about up here? Are you telling me this place isn't safe?"
bonnypiperlad: (Look...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-07-03 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's not what I meant." Although it's not, not completely, but he's reluctant to go into it unless she presses. Bad enough she has to find out about the war as it is.

"Mostly the ship is, but...look, you've just woken up here and found out your world's gone. Destroyed. Do ye really want your family to have to find that out too?"

prattlingvoice: (What?)

[personal profile] prattlingvoice 2011-07-04 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Donna thought of her grandfather, her mother, her friends...everyone she knew, waking up to find themselves in this strange place, where everything they knew was gone. "No, I guess not," she said quietly. "But why am I here? Why me? Why not someone else, someone important?"
bonnypiperlad: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-07-04 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie's quiet for a moment, then nods in understanding. "I know a wee bit how that feels. Ye wake up in a place like this, where there's all sorts of beasties and these super-heroes with powers and you're not sure where ye fit into it all."

He glances down at the morpher on his wrist, then flicks his eyes back up to Donna. "Even if you're not one of those, there's something important about ye, or you'd not have been woken up in the first place. It's just a matter of finding out what it is, aye?"
prattlingvoice: (Relaxed)

[personal profile] prattlingvoice 2011-07-04 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Well unless someone needs a secretary to save the universe, I don't think there's going to be anything important about me, Kilt-boy," Donna said dismissively. What good was a temp in the middle of a alien war? What was she supposed to do, catalogue how many people woke up with useless belongings like her?
bonnypiperlad: (hrmph)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-07-05 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
'Kilt-boy' is apparently a nickname the Scot doesn't care much for, because as soon as he hears it, his lips press together in a rather vexed-looking way. "The name's Jamie, I'll have ye know. And maybe not, but there's things ye can do and learn here if ye want to."

Although he's beginning to wonder if she wants to, honestly. "Look, I'll not say it's the best thing to be where we are, but it's not like we have much choice in the matter right now. Not if we want to get our worlds back."
prattlingvoice: (Horrified)

[personal profile] prattlingvoice 2011-07-05 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Jamie. Good name you got there, kilt-boy," Donna said, her lips quirking in amusement for a moment.

"Now, excuse me, but am I the only one who notices that there's something wrong with the idea that we can bring back our worlds when they've been destroyed?" Donna said, her expression turning incredulous. "They said the world is gone! How on earth can it be brought back if it's completely destroyed?"
bonnypiperlad: (talking)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-07-06 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie's mouth pulls off to the side for a moment as she says it again, but he lets it slide for now, not realizing he may regret that decision later. She's right about the rest of it though, and he nods.

"I know, it sounds daft," Anyone with any sense would think so. He thought so, when he first heard it. "But that's what we've been told. The problem is, it's the Ohm that have it."
prattlingvoice: (Thinking)

[personal profile] prattlingvoice 2011-07-06 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Don't regret it too much Jamie - she'd keep calling you kilt-boy even if you had insisted on her not using it.

"Wait, how can the Ohm or whatever have our worlds if they destroyed them? That doesn't make sense," Donna said. Jamie was definitely right about all this sounding daft.
