Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Fresh from Weapons and Possessions, the wizard floated to the Observation Deck slowly, mind churning at lightning speed as he observed his surroundings. With his gear back, he cut a much finer figure than the naked snot-covered elf spewed forth from the pod: wizard's staffs slung across his back, belt pouches secured at his waist along with a brace of wands on his right side; robes (conjured over his plantsuit) and long hair drifting in a breeze that seemed to affect only him.

He was ready for anything, spells of protection layered around him and ones of offense close at hand. But with nothing hostile in the immediate offing, Aibghalien relaxed slightly. Certainly not entirely.

[identity profile] hack-rat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
A small rat was making her way through the crowd, sniffing as she looked for something- or someone. A rolled up piece of cloth was tied to her like a harness. In the cloth was a message, "For Loretta, Mikel, or Amanda, I'm on board. I've missed you. You can find me on the comms, and I'll tell you where to meet me there"

Rats however, can get disrtacted upon occasion, and this little black rat was just that. She went up to the elf and sniffed at his feet. He was not any of those that she was told to found, but her instincts told her that he was good. He was someone that it would be good for Alex to meet.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, hello." Familiar with animals -- though his own quite literal familiar seemed not to have made the trip, his bond with the eagle severed as far as he can tell -- Aibghalien slowly lowered himself down, hand out so the rat could scent him. He carefully looked only sidelong at the rat, so as not to spook her with a straight gaze that could be considered predatory.

[identity profile] hack-rat.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Most things like straight gazes had no meaning to her. She was a pet rat and had been breed as such for many generations. Aside from that, she spent enough time around humans to know that they just tended to look to straight on.

With no fear she went up to his fingers and began sniffing them, then promptly climbed into his hand, poking her nose up his robe sleeve.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you're a friendly one, aren't you?" Aibghalien rose slowly as he began to carefully remove the cloth from her. He had no idea if it was intended for him, but in situations like these, the need for intelligence outweighed courtesy in this instance.

[identity profile] hack-rat.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Alice remained still, knowing that was what she was supposed to do when someone was taking a message from her. He was none of the people she was meant to find, but Alex hadn't given the 'only' command, so it was okay to let him read it.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm none of these people," Aibghalien said to himself as he glanced over the message. Very carefully, he retied it onto the rat. "It seems whoever sent this figured you'd be proof of identity, since they didn't sign it," he said to the rat as he ducked back down to let her go on her mission once more. "Good luck!"

[identity profile] hack-rat.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She began heading back to Alex, but then paused and looked patiently back at the wizard. People who had rats knew them to be smart, and Alice had always been a particularly bright one, even now as she was getting on in her years.

If she couldn't find Alex's old friends, maybe she could bring him some new ones.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Aibghalien took the rat's meaning instantly, and immediately followed. In his long and storied experience, this sort of thing was exactly what a person in a strange and unfamiliar environment ought to follow up on.

I WIN AT TYPOS!

[identity profile] killsfengshui.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Permanent aerotechnics?" Mei-Xing snorts as she looks him over. "Just what we needed, another wizkid who thinks he's drek hot."

The elf grins up at him cheekily. "Might as well tone it down. People here don't have the respect their mothers beat into them. They'll just roll right over you." Case in point right here. She's not wearing any wands, that's just asking for trouble, and she doesn't have any kind of staves or pouches on her plantsuit, but surely one mage could tell when he meets another?

If he can't, she's just giving up on the magical community here as a whole. Morons, the lot of them.

Everyone's a winner!

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, that's just..." Aibghalien shook back the sleeves of his robes slightly, enough to reveal matching silver plates strapped to his forearms with ornate leather straps. "Protection, but it seems I don't need them here at the moment."

He spoke a word in a foreign language as he dropped lightly to the ground. The winds faded as he shifted his sleeves back into position.

Well then. Another practitioner of the arcane arts, though to all discernable evidence a sorcerer rather than a wizard. Elven, as well, though their surroundings strongly implied a more enlightened view than many of his brethren and their kill-all-humans mentality. That might be a product of environmental necessity, however. Best to proceed cautiously.

"I had no idea what I was about to walk into," he said, offering a smile -- slightly strained, given the circumstances, but real enough -- to her. "I'd like to think at the end of the day that the important thing is that I didn't fireball anyone indiscriminately."

[identity profile] killsfengshui.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
A rich wizkid, at that. My, my. This was getting curiouser and curiouser. "They wouldn't have been needed, not really." She looks at the wall. "This ship tends to stop violence as soon as it starts. Tentacles. Very annoying." She glances back at him, then leans in, hissing. "They don't work in the City, so be careful."

Just some helpful hints to keep the guy from getting geeked on his first few days here. Not that there was any danger of it.

Mei-Xing waves her hand, turning to face the crowd. "It only would've improved some of their attitudes." She's thinking of a certain mage and Kryptonian combo, there. "Eh. At least you didn't."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Rich? She had no idea. "Thank you for the warnings. I'll try to keep them in mind... though old habits may take a while to die." He flashed his smile again; it came more naturally as his hackles lowered. "I certainly don't prefer to fight, but I often find those I'm dealing with haven't gone to great lengths to accommodate that preference. It's such an inconvenient."

This fellow elf had a certain look about her that simply wasn't familiar. He studied her thoughtfully -- not just her appearance, but her mien, and her words. "Have you been awake on this ship long?"

i can keep track of posts. rly

[identity profile] killsfengshui.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's either that or he's walked off of a movie set. "Since when has anyone who wanted a tussle ever listened to reason?" She snorts a little, wiggling one of her hands in a 'whatever' gesture. "S'why you've gotta be able to inconvenience them with a swift kick in the fork sometimes."

Mei-Xing is certainly not the one of noble elves of other worlds, no. "I've been on for a few months? Not that long, I guess, but we've got people who keep appearing and vanishing around here, so." She shrugs. What can you do?

Maybe you need a clone to help you. ^.^

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ha, true enough! But I'd rather the people who want to fight than the people who don't want to fight because they'd rather you just let them walk over you," he said. Though he was snickering a little. The noble elf wasn't so distant and alien from common humanity that a term like 'fork' didn't amuse the hell out of him.

Then she said something that cut his amusement quite short. "Appearing and vanishing...?"

bah

[identity profile] killsfengshui.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fuck it, we need a rug sometimes." Though she has to agree, working with people who'll actually throw a punch at the enemy when the time comes is a lot more reassuring.

She holds up her hands. "It's not as bad as you think." Stepping aside, she gestures at the new pops. "See, some of these guys, they'll be snagged up by an AI named GLaDOS, and she'll run tests on them. We won't get any warning when it happens, it just will. And she'll pop'em back in when she's done. Other folks, Stacy will just pop back into their pods. Appearing and vanishing. See?"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"An AI? I apologize, I'm not familiar with the term."

They certainly were a contrast in tone, at least at the moment. Still, the wizard hadn't stopped frowning, his thoughts obviously on how he could avoid being sent back to that curious form of stasis that had obviously held him quite inextricably.

Now that was definitely an elf; from the robes (with different arcane symbols than he was used to), Kang could also tell that this elf was a wizard. He had a feeling this one wasn't from Krynn, but... it didn't hurt to be cautious.

He was careful to keep his hands away from the sword at his hip as he approached, "Welcome to Stacy."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
A... lizardman? No, absolutely not, the anatomical dissimilarities completely ruled out not only that possibility but those of speciation as well. This was intriguing! Undoubtedly this new environment would provide countless opportunities for education or intellectual advancement!

But first, diplomacy!

Aibghalien delivered a letter-perfect courtly bow to this person, at the same precise level a noble would use to an ambassador. Instinct told him that claiming his full rank would accomplish, and mean, nothing here. "My thanks for your welcome, and my apologies for my confusion. Without casting any blame, well, I really hadn't intended to be here." Aibghalien offered a smile -- assuming that even if the lizard-man-whatever didn't possess the anatomical capacity to smile, his demeanor indicated a familiarity with the nonreptilian and this, presumably, their body language.
governorkang: (Sons-of-bitches command face)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-03 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
More like a dragon man. Kang returned the bow perfectly; he'd had practice with this sort of thing, with his position back home. "Unfortunately, none of us intended on being here. I am Kang, and I'm one of the members of the civilian council on this vessel."

This elf definitely wasn't from Krynn.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aibghalien," the wizard returned politely. Good luck spelling that.

Only a moment of thought passed. "Well; I received the introduction from what I presume is the construct we're presently in, and I have everything I need. That being said, I bow to your seniority. I'm a wizard. What should I know, and what should I do?"

This was hardly the first time Aibghalien has been thrown into a situation similar to this.
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-03 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well met." Kang knew how complicated elven names tended to be, and he wasn't even about to try. "I could tell from the robes. The wizards of my world dress in much the same manner. How much did Stacy tell you already?"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oddly, Aibghalien had never met a dragon. They had been few in number for long before his birth; now they were most likely extinct. "I'm glad it wasn't the wands or the wizards' staffs that gave it away, I'd hate to have been too obvious," he said with a chuckle.

"General things only," he continued more seriously. "We, by which I presume all of us, have been Chosen to fight an insectoid race called the Ohm, some probably irrelevant filler about being champions, and then that the 'others' would tell us everything else." Now he smiled again. "In other words, I think she just did some judicious delegation."
governorkang: (Neutral)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-03 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Kang nodded, "So not much, then. The reason we're all on this ship is because our worlds have been destroyed by the Ohm. We're all survivors, from multiple universes, rescued by the Daligig, and we have no idea where Stacy is headed or what she'll have us do next."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Interesting," Aibghalien mused out loud. "So my world is destroyed? I'm really getting quite tired of that. And a planar-traveling vessel built by unknown forces for an unknown purpose, although said purpose is implied to be the destruction of the creatures responsible for the destruction. Interesting."

He swept the room quickly, analyzing everything he saw again, then turned back to Kang. "I infer that the crew is entirely comprised of survivors and rescuees, no individuals present prior to the first awakening of people in the manner we just underwent? And that two councils exist, one civilian, one military?"
