Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Kang nodded, "So not much, then. The reason we're all on this ship is because our worlds have been destroyed by the Ohm. We're all survivors, from multiple universes, rescued by the Daligig, and we have no idea where Stacy is headed or what she'll have us do next."

"Interesting," Aibghalien mused out loud. "So my world is destroyed? I'm really getting quite tired of that. And a planar-traveling vessel built by unknown forces for an unknown purpose, although said purpose is implied to be the destruction of the creatures responsible for the destruction. Interesting."

He swept the room quickly, analyzing everything he saw again, then turned back to Kang. "I infer that the crew is entirely comprised of survivors and rescuees, no individuals present prior to the first awakening of people in the manner we just underwent? And that two councils exist, one civilian, one military?"

"You'd be right," Kang said. Aibghalien was certainly... verbose. Then again, he was an elf, and from his dealings with them that hadn't been war-related, he knew they tended to be that way. "The original crew, the Daligig, aren't on the ship, and it's not so much two different councils as it is military operations working together with the civilian government."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-05 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Verbose? This is Aibghalien being downright mute... for him. Kang will probably need to reconsider that opinion if anyone ever mentions magic in his presence...

The wizard quirked a smile. "It sounds like the military is being the military just because it's used to being the military." It makes sense in his head. "Well, no matter. I'm only incidentally skilled with a blade," he continued with a glance down at the sword he wore, "but I have experience commanding in battles, as well as... civilian administration." He really had no intent of making any fuss over what, precisely, the nature of that experience was.

"But my strength is magic, and if I have a preference in placements I'd rather work with whatever other practitioners you have aboard. Though..."

He looked up and far away, his eyes no longer the instrument of sensation. In total, he seemed to be concentrating on seeing, hearing, even tasting, without using the appropriate organs to do so. After a moment, he exhaled and relaxed, focusing on Kang once again. "I don't think I have access to any realm magic here. The --" No, Kang wouldn't understand the elven word. "The environmental magic here isn't of a strength that would permit me to claim anything but the weakest source, and that would require full dominion over it. But I still have command of my personal magics."

Kang didn't expect Aighalien to be much good with a blade. Where he was from, wizards were only allowed daggers, and relied on their magic to fight when they had to. Quirking an eyebrow ridge slightly, he said, "Then you'll probably want to talk to Miss Nanoha Takamachi. She's the head of the magic department on the ship."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Excellent, and I thank you. Is she about?" He glanced down at the communications devices he'd been handed. "I'm guessing I could use these for the purpose of finding her, if not."

Then, because Kang had indicated that wizardry on his world at least bore superficial resemblance to the image Aibghalien presented, he asked, "Are there clerics aboard this ship as well? Does that branch of magic even function, here?"

"I don't see her right now, but that doesn't mean she isn't about," Kang said, looking around the room. "And yes. If you want, I can explain to you how to use them; they're pretty easy to operate. As for clerical magic, I'm not sure. Miss Takamachi will probably know more about that."

"Any help you could give me would be appreciated," Aibghalien said, quite grateful. "I have the feeling I'm better off figuring out exactly the nature of the magic here before I start conducting anything major. If that means using this science... well." He took a bracing breath. "It's been made clear to me I ought to be more open-minded about it. So no sense hesitating."

Pulling out his own omnicomm, Kang proceeded to explain how to find the important things like the maps and other data files, and also how to send a message to another person. He was careful to use terms that someone unused to that level technology would understand; he'd once been in the same exact boat. "You'll have to learn more about science and technology to get by on this ship. It seems like most of the worlds people here are from don't use much, if any, magic, or magic that's similar to what you or I are used to."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Aibghalien picked up the basics -- and deduced much more of the advanced -- nightmarishly fast. No surprise that a fearsome intellect lurks in the head of a wizard, though, right?

"So I gathered." The elf inhaled, holding the breath a moment as if to brace himself. "I have a great deal of... learned prejudice to overcome there, but it seems I have no other choice. So I intend to. Are there, perhaps, classes, or willing tutors?"
governorkang: (Looking up)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-08 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Luis Sera and Billy Cranston are two of the people that offer science classes," Kang put his omnicomm away. "They're both very good at explaining things to people from worlds like ours."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"It sounds like you have things under control, or at least in a routine," Aibghalien said, with an appreciation for the effort both objectively as as a beneficiary. "Does this sort of event happen often?"

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-08 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"For the most part," Kang said dryly. "If you're referring to new people waking up, it seems to happen about once every month or so. Time is strange here."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, on that note, are there day and night cycles? Does the crew have a standardized time or calendar?" Aibghalien is the sort who never runs out of questions, just ways to have them answered. "And... quarters, I suppose? I don't require much, if it matters, everything I have of importance is in one of these." He waved at his belt and the pouches and bags thereon.
