Tainted Memories

Sometime during the regular comings and goings aboard the meatship, an announcement rings out across all portions of the ship.

||Attention crew,|| Stacy's voice says, ||As significant interest has been shown for it, and enough time has passed since the Nightmare King incident to prevent unnecessary mental issues, the procedure to unlock the memories of the destruction of your homeworlds is now available to all crew members. If you are interested, please proceed to any empty sensorium and I will begin the process.||

A slight pause, then...

||If you have a history of mental issues, please use extra consideration when deciding on whether or not to take the procedure. That is all.||

Should anyone decide to take her up on her offer and head to the sensoriums, they'd find a clean, clinical-looking white room with a dentist-style chair (sans scary drills, of course) in the middle.

||Please, take a seat.||

Kang wasn't sure he liked that chair, or the white room, but he sat down anyways, scales clicking in a slight bit of nervousness. As uncomfortable as he felt, he needed to know, and there was no way he was going to back out of it.

He took a deep breath, "Alright, Stacy. Don't leave anything out."

[It'll be easier if the needle goes between two scales instead of through one. lol reptile

Aaaaaand I'll be mean and say he's home with his kids and mate. >.>]

There really wasn't any question about whether or not he'd take the offer. The last time he'd been mind-rubbed, it had led his mother to Kavan with Jacen. He'd had enough forgetting for one lifetime.

Ben sat in the chair the ship offered, and settled, cross-legged, into a familiar meditative posture. There is no emotion, there is peace. "I'm ready," he said to the empty room.

'Vadum had been in the process of cleaning his armour at the time of Stacy's announcement. A task he soon finished, their was no matter of choice in his mind. He would have his memories returned, no matter the result.

His combat harness back in place he entered the room, pausing only a moment to take in the room around him before he took the seat as instructed. Taking a slow breath to ready himself.

"Do what you must, I am ready,"

((Initial scene would be aboard the Shadow of Intent, either in slipspace transit or just having come out of slipsace above Sanghelios, most likely place for him would be the bridge.))

Nanoha had known for months that she'd wanted to know. So there wasn't any hesitation in her mind as she headed to the Sensoriums, a familiar tow-headed girl at her side.

"Thanks for coming with me, Fate-chan," she said with a squeeze of her hand. "I appreciate it."

With that, she slid into the chair in the middle of the sterile white room, still holding the other girl's hand. This place was already giving her the creeps.

Nanoha took a breath and tried to focus herself. "Okay, I'm ready."

(Nanoha will be just driving her minivan somewhere on the main city of Midchilda.)

"I couldn't let you go through with this alone, could I?" Fate said with a smile. Her grip on Nanoha's hand was tight as she crouched down next to the chair; just tight enough for the other girl to know that she was there, and will stay there for as long as possible.

No matter what, she will not let go of Nanoha's hand.

Loren had been thinking about this ever since she found out about the missing memories. Sure, it had been for a reason, a really good one, but the thought of her doing things that she didn't remember, of things happening. And then there was the knowledge that in the future that should have been she lost all her memories... to say she had issues with memory tampering would be putting it mildly.

And really, she'd just rather know.

She took one deep breath before entering the sensorium and another one before sitting down.

"What next?"

This was unexpected. Of course, Aftran had been too preoccupied with other things to pay close attention to the ship's politics, so it was only natural that she didn't expect it. Still, she was surprised by the announcement.

Surprised, but she felt a sudden determination. She'd been on her way someplace else, but as soon as she heard Stacy's words, she changed course to head to the Sensoriums.

When she entered the room, she didn't sit down right away, at first. Karen had always been afraid of doctor's offices, and right now, she didn't know how much Stacy knew about her. "You said... we can get our memories back?"

((Aftran was on her way to catch the bus to school when she was grabbed.))

The announcement came, and Katara had taken several breaths before walking over to the Sensorium. This wasn't going to pretty: in fact, that warning of mental issues that might happen because of what she saw was enough to have her on edge. Despite this, she HAD to know. If her teacher was here, and she bet even if she asked Arha, they would say it was something that she wanted, with or without their approval. She thought about telling Sokka what she was doing, but figured he might talk her out of it: and for what was at stake, she might actually agree.

She stepped through the door and found the white room with the dental chair. She swallowed, then walked toward the chair, mentally preparing herself.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

Wherever you are teacher, be with me.

I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

She sat in the chair, closing her eyes.

Only I will remain.

Samus was not interested in witnessing the last moments of her universe for any sort of closure. She retained many... mixed emotions about its destruction. She was, however, very interested in any information about the Ohm she might gain from this encounter. The hunter, so convinced that she was strong enough to handle anything sent her way, forgot the fact that she was still human, and still subject to those silly things called emotions.

"Stacy," she sat down in the chair, "I'm ready."

There was much Superman didn't know. And he HATED that. Hated the unknown of any sort of opponent or thing. Entering the sensoriums, he took a seat and let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. Was he scared? Maybe. Never felt that way since dealing with Doomsday.

It was time to confront another kind of Doomsday.

"Alright, Stacy. Whenever you're ready."

Memories. More damnable memories that he lost. More that he wants back so he can feel SOME sort of wholeness. He didn't want Alessa to be troubled (that, or she'd already would figure out what's going on) so he didn't bother to poke her in any way.

Heading into the room, he flipped himself over to the chair and sat down, arms crossed.

"Let's get this over with." Shadow growled.

The drugs he could do without, psychological issues non-withstanding. But he needed to know. He REALLY needed to know.

And seriously, none of his friends and family would forgive him if he passed this up.

"Ready," said Ben, exhaling sharply.

Lash shouldn't really bother. After all, she had no one she cared about left much in her own home world, but the afro girl was too curious for her own good. The chair reminded her of what they used to question prisoners, and it seemed really fitting.

After a few minutes of thinking about what she was about to do, she gave out one sigh and plopped down on the chair loudly.

"Alright. Let's do this Stacy. Show me what happened."

There was a burning need to know things and Negi Springfield was no exception to this situation. His arms were folded, biting his lip nervously. All he remembered was screaming when he woke up, so it was really gnawing at him.

Still though, he prepared himself mentally. Chamo sat to the side, watching and rolling a cigarette between his paws.

"Go."

Upon hearing the announcement, Billy took a minute to make his decision.

Can I do this? I vaguely know what to expect, and it's liable to reawaken emotional trauma and trigger nightmares. Will that interfere with my work?

Very probable, but I have to do this, Billy countered his own thoughts. What if an enemy we come across has the power to awaken memories and they're used to cripple me at a critical moment? And what if I can learn something vital from this memory? It's safer to know.

Mind made up, he strode toward the Sensorium. Along the way, he stopped to ask Renne to accompany him. Without hesitation, his brother had agreed.

Once there, he took his position with one hand in Renne's paw. "I'm ready."

[identity profile] bluebrassmonkey.livejournal.com 2010-05-25 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
He'd heard the announcement not long ago.

The decision on his own perspective was a difficult one but it wasn't entirely unfamiliar. He'd been "witness" to, lived through, the annihilation of at least one place. More than that if he counted the nations he'd been through that had risen and fallen.

Billy's question, when he'd heard it, was answered without a second's thought. In that second, another decision was made.

Silently, the imp followed his Human and when a paw was held, Renne held on right back.

He wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Hikari sighed, she and Tailmon heading towards the Sensorium.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Tailmon asked.

Hikari nodded. "We have to. We have to know what we're fighting. What happened."

Tailmon nodded. "I, yeah we do. Besides, it isn't like horror is new to us."

Hikari just shook her head, trembling just a bit. She really wasn't looking forward to this. But what she told Tailmon still held true. They needed to know what had happened.

[OOC: Hikari and Tailmon were actually at a picnic on Earth when the world ended. Just saw that I was supposed to post the situation in the other thread, will get right on it.]

Tim takes a breath and lets it out before stepping into the Sensorium. He knows that Stacy has recommended against this, but... he's never really been the type to shy away from knowledge just because it's uncomfortable.

He's Robin.

He crosses to the chair and takes a seat, setting his jaw determinedly. "Let's do this."

If anyone decided to come. What a silly statement.

Dustin rushed for the Sensoriums, mind racing infinitely faster than he was running, thoughts churning between fascination and fear and blind hope. The optimistic part of him—one of the weaker personalities of his collective subconscious—obligingly took the announcement at face value, assuming that he would receive a full recollection of the invasion’s events and, at any rate, he would then be motivated to work even harder, and would be given assurance that Codi was still in stasis someplace on board. But the logical side of him knew that what remained of Stacy’s functioning circuitry was faulty at best, able to keep the crew alive and transport them to locations that she was directed to, perhaps even receive and transmit holographic messages, but otherwise there were many things that needed fixing. For all Dustin knew, this ‘memory revival’ could just be a tiny flashback, an emotion or two with no images, or the details would be so muddled that the events were rendered incomprehensible.

And the curious part of him was simply going along for the ride.

“Don’t disappoint me.”

Russel approached the room, hesitant. But he knew he had to do this. Absolutely no ounce of him told him to not make himself aware of this information. As a scientist, as a brother, as a son, and as one of the few survivors of Amestris, he had to know the last minutes of his world. He glanced to Fletcher, and tried to keep a brave face on. But he really didn't know what to expect. Just as Fletcher had insisted on seeing it, Russel had insisted on going first.

Sure, the Nightmare King was gone, but that didn't mean Russel's own private nightmares had disappeared. But he didn't say that to Stacy.

He approached the chair, and gingerly sat in it, his slowness of movement the only sign of his hesitation. He knew Fletcher would see through his brave face, but it was as much of a defense mechanism as it was for his brother's sake. "Let's do this..." he said, trying to get comfortable in the chair.

Fletcher nodded, and remained standing beside the chair as Russel sat down. He knew this was going to be terrifying, and he knew Russel was going to be just as upset as him. If he hadn't been aware before of just how vulnerable his brother's mind was, he knew now, after all of the terror the Nightmare King had spread. He'd seen Russel at his weakest. And Fletcher didn't really know how to feel about that.

Russel was always going on and on about how he was supposed to protect Fletcher, after all.

As Russel sat there, Fletcher reached out and took hold of one of his hands. He couldn't really smile at him, but he nodded as firmly and surely as he could. He was going to stay right here.

Jubilee did not like this. She didn't want the memories, not really. But, she was an X-Man. An X-Man didn't flinch from the horrible things in life. She'd been crucified and she dealt with that every time she closed her eyes.

Sitting in the chair, she leaned back, closing her eyes. "Stacy, even if you drug me, the PAFs might surge. Just so you know." she didn't want the ship being surprised.

Jubilee really wasn't looking forward to this.

Rei was much slower to get to the Sensoriums them others. He'd talked himself into, and out of, doing this about a dozen times. On the one hand, he hated having holes in his memory. He hated not knowing what had really happened. On the other hand, both the Guardians and Stacy had implied that they had wiped his memory to protect him, and he believed them.

He paced in front of the doors to the Sensoriums, weighing the pros and cons of seeing this for a final time. He stopped, took a deep breath, and entered. He had to know this. He had to know what the Ohm where capable of, in order to fight them. And he had to know the fate of his world.

He sat down in the chair, his entire body tense, afraid of what he might see. "Okay, Stacy. I'm ready."

It was with some trepidation that Reyna entered the Sensorium and settled herself into the waiting chair. The fact that the room now resembled the medbays common to just about every ship in the Republic did little to help settle her nerves. She knew she wanted her memories back, no matter how terrible they were, but that didn't make the prospect of remembering what was probably the most horrible thing she'd ever witnessed any easier. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Reyna leaned her head back and closed her eyes.

"I'm ready Stacy. Please begin the procedure." At least her voice sounded calm and relaxed even if the rest of her was anything but.

Nura stands in the entrance with a slight sense of trepedation niggling in the back of her mind. She's holding her elbow, unsure yet curious towards what she is about to do. Biting her lower lip anxiously, she moves out of the doorway to give passage to the person behind her...

Sofia put an arm around her friend. "It's all right, Nura. I'm here for you." She paused. "You know you that don't have to do this if you don't want to."

Although she was tempted to ask herself, but given the last thing she remembered was feeling an intense pain in her back and neck, then blacking out, she was fairly sure there was nothing to remember.

Arha had debated on whether or not she wished to do this thing. In the end, she decided that as the sole native Bene Gesserit and Fremen aboard the ship, it was her duty to remember. It was her duty to bear it.

She had asked Kyle Katarn to be present for this and wordlessly seated herself. For this, she was clad in the Jed-Eye tunic ensemble that had been modeled after Obi-Wan's set. Her fingers curled at the wide sleeves and she drew a steady, calming breath.

"This is going to be unpleasant," she said in a very quiet voice and her eyes found Kyle's. "But it shall be worth it."

"I still don't think this is the best idea. I know you have your reasons, but it's going to be more than unpleasant. Are you still sure you want to do this?" Deep down he knew she'd already committed, but he still felt he needed to make the effort. Really the question was more for him than her. One last reassurance. It bothered him though, that he couldn't help her with this burden. He reached out for her hand to give it a reassuring squeeze.

Whatever she decided he'd be right there with her through it all.

Selene was used to nightmares. She saw horrors no waking human should ever see and she could always remember them clearly. She also cared about her world. She cared about her life and friends and everything.

So, believing she'd be able to take it because really? How many nightmares have the world destroyed? So there she was, sitting in the chair, waiting to see what exactly had happened to the world she had just saved from another invasion.

"Do it."

He had given up HIS LIFE for his universe. He had given up Loren, his son, the ability to just live at ease for the sake of his universe. When he heard that it was destroyed...it had been a blow. A very, very painful blow. Everything he did was for nothing as it was all just destrooyed.

He had to know what happened.

< Let me see what happened, Stacy. >
