Tainted Memories

Sometime during the regular comings and goings aboard the meatship, an announcement rings out across all portions of the ship.

||Attention crew,|| Stacy's voice says, ||As significant interest has been shown for it, and enough time has passed since the Nightmare King incident to prevent unnecessary mental issues, the procedure to unlock the memories of the destruction of your homeworlds is now available to all crew members. If you are interested, please proceed to any empty sensorium and I will begin the process.||

A slight pause, then...

||If you have a history of mental issues, please use extra consideration when deciding on whether or not to take the procedure. That is all.||

Should anyone decide to take her up on her offer and head to the sensoriums, they'd find a clean, clinical-looking white room with a dentist-style chair (sans scary drills, of course) in the middle.

||Please, take a seat.||

If anyone decided to come. What a silly statement.

Dustin rushed for the Sensoriums, mind racing infinitely faster than he was running, thoughts churning between fascination and fear and blind hope. The optimistic part of him—one of the weaker personalities of his collective subconscious—obligingly took the announcement at face value, assuming that he would receive a full recollection of the invasion’s events and, at any rate, he would then be motivated to work even harder, and would be given assurance that Codi was still in stasis someplace on board. But the logical side of him knew that what remained of Stacy’s functioning circuitry was faulty at best, able to keep the crew alive and transport them to locations that she was directed to, perhaps even receive and transmit holographic messages, but otherwise there were many things that needed fixing. For all Dustin knew, this ‘memory revival’ could just be a tiny flashback, an emotion or two with no images, or the details would be so muddled that the events were rendered incomprehensible.

And the curious part of him was simply going along for the ride.

“Don’t disappoint me.”
