Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

After being put through the tests that GLaDOS put Chris through, whether on purpose or not he arrived at the Obs Deck. It must be podpop time... His biege jacket on over the the plantsuit, he was more than annoyed at the AI as he spied a teenager who looked a bit lost. "I'm beginning to see why a lot of people hate that GLaDOS..." He truned to the girl as he had a thoughtful look.

"Sorry. I'm Chris Ramirez. Do you need any help? I've been on this ship for quite a while. I can probably answer any questions you may have."

Cassie spun to face the stranger who had spoken to her. A bit hesitantly, she spoke up. "I... yes. If you could, then I'd like some help."

She smiled at him a bit wearily. "I'm grateful for the help. Can I ask your name first though? I'm Cassie." There was still hesitation when she said her name. Three years of lies and secrecy had drilled that caution into her, but she had already decided that there was no harm in offering just her first name. In fact, there might be more harm in refusing. She wouldn't want people to look at her with suspicion.

But what to ask? There was still so much that she didn't know. "I... still don't totally understand how this ship works. It's apparently alive and her name is Stacy, but how is that possible? I've never heard of a living ship before much less seen one."

Cassie had given Chris the impression of someone used to strange accurances, used to very strange things. She was what, sixteen? That made him feel a little sad about the state of people, regardless of what universe that they lived in. "Right. Um, as I said I'm Chris Ramirez. I'm not really sure about how this ship came to be, other than what a few facts I know. Apparently, it used to be a prison ship and we were 'rescued' by Stacy (that's the ship's main personality) before the Ohm destroyed our respective universes. However she's not the only AI on board. If by any chance you deal with an AI called GLaDOS, don't listen to her. She has this insane tendancy to force people to run tests with the promise of cake, she does not care about any of the crew and will kill us if given the chance."

"A prison ship?" That didn't sound promising, but it at least it didn't seem to be designed like one any more. It barely resembled a ship at all from what small bits she'd seen of it. But, then again, she also wasn't terribly knowledgeable about spacecraft. She only really knew about the type of stuff that she'd seen during the war.

This was the second time today that she'd head the name GLaDOS though. Aftran had mentioned it earlier and, given both what Aftran and Chris had told her, it sounded like dealing with this GLaDOS was something to be avoided if possible, although the description Aftran had given her had been tamer then the one Chris had offered. "Thank you for the advice. I'll try to avoid her," Cassie responded.

Cassie glanced around the room as though expecting to see someone before looking back at Chris sheepishly. "Do you know who's in charge around here?" That could be useful information, after all.

Chris nodded. "Yeah, I know it's a lot to take in at first. I wasn't sure who to trust myself when I first arrived here." He gave a deep sigh, as he looked towards the crowd before turning back to Cassie. "As for who's in charge? That would be the Captain, Leon Kennedy who was voted in as the captain. There's also an elected democratic Council, and whoever was now the head of Security. I'm pretty sure that's Dick Grayson. I'm also am part of Security."

Cassie nodded, the smile returning to her face. "I hope that I get a handle on this soon. How long did it take you to get used to this place?" She made sure to take note of the names that Chris had given her as well as the information about the Council. "Thank you for the information. It's good to know how this place functions if I'm going to be living her now."

"You're part of Security?" she asked, both curious and worried. Curious because it sounded like it'd be an interesting job even if it definitely wasn't something that she'd get involved in and worried because it sounded like it could be dangerous. She already liked Chris and she didn't want him to get hurt. "I suppose that I know who to go to then if I need help. Do you enjoy it?"

[identity profile] hero-sting.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I do. It helps me feel like I'm actually contributing to the ship, instead of just being in the way." Granted, Chris probably wasn't much older then Cassie and a lot of people on the ship could take care of themselves he would still worry about his friends.

"Part of that may be because I'm kind of used to working, because of being in the Marines for a short time."

[identity profile] caringcassie.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Cassie could definitely understand that. She still wasn't sure what she'd be doing while on the ship, but if she was going to be here then she'd rather be helpful. Cassie was so used to being active that it felt strange not to know what she was going to do with herself. That was something that she hoped to fix quickly.

"I can understand that," Cassie said with a wide smile. "I was never in the Marines or military, but I've been working with my father for a long time. He's a vet and his clinic is in a barn right next to the house, which meant a lot of early mornings taking care of the animals as well as busy afternoons and nights giving the animals their meds and cleaning up on top of my schoolwork. There was always something that needed doing. I hate having nothing to do." Cassie paused for a second, reminded that she would not be doing any of that now. Were all those animals gone? She remembered them all as clearly as if she had only seen them yesterday. Perhaps she had. Regret entered her voice when she spoke again, her smile gone, "I miss it already. The animals, the work- even the dirty, unpleasant stuff- everything."

So, caught up in her thoughts of the animals she'd loved and the world she'd lost, Cassie had forgotten that she hadn't planned on giving anyone much in the way of personal information. But that hadn't occurred to her yet. She was still lost in thought.
