Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Bight smiled down to her at the comments, "I am happy to assist another from Krynn," he replies with a wry smile as they made their way through the crowds.

Bight shook his head slowly as he led her onwards, "Unfortunately not, the only other aboard ship from Krynn is Crucible, the bronze dragon who helped defend my city," True in a sense at least, after all he was Crucible, best to mention his presence at the very least, "There is always a chance that they will awaken in subsequent pod releases,"

She smiled back at him, quietly relaxing more. A safe harbor? Not quiet, but a familiar thing when much had been cast into chaos. It was a great comfort to find someone from home. To be able to hide behind him was a great relief. He knew the rules, he was from Krynn. He knew of Teyr and knew her father.

She froze, going a little cold at the mention of the bronze. "A dragon is here?" Dragons were dangerous and had no great love for their lost and altered children, she knew that. Knew to avoid them. It had been one of the first lessons her father had taught her, the nightmare stories that had scared her into bed. She shivered, a barely noticeable motion unless it was being watched for and took a single step closer to Lord Bight, hiding in his shadow as though the dragon might appear and destroy her before anyone could do anything. He controlled the dragon, did he not? So she should be safer if she stayed close to him. She was not Yana or Brevo to take the presence of an adult bronze dragon as a challenge. No, she was aware her father was not here, and that she was isolated and with protectors that felt indebted to her only because Kang had been their ally and friend. Her voice was quieter when she spoke again, uncertain if she was being rude. "Lord Bight....how did you befriend a dragon?"

She hoped, she sincerely hoped that another pass might reveal her mother. Or one of her uncles or aunts. Anyone she knew. Though she rather hoped to not see her brother or sister now, Brevo and Yana had no sense when it came to running away.

He inclined his head in answer to her first question, a hint of emotion flickered across his features as she stepped in closer in his shadow. Closer as if to hide from the dragon in question, when in reality she was walking right behind him. He knew it was near certain that she had been warned against his kind by her family, the time would come when his identity would have to be revealed, but for now he schooled his expression once more as she spoke before looking back to her with a reassuring smile.

"I have known him most of my life, before even my time as Governor of Sanction. We share ideologies for the most part, I must of taken his interest though for when I decided to move and become Governor of Sanction, he followed to aid in the protection of the city I sought to aid," He replied with a soft smile as he thought back on the times, not a lie in technicality, a slight bending of the truth and the unmentioned fact that he was Crucible as well. "Do not worry though, I shall ensure he does not bother you,"

A human child would have reached for his hand for reassurance. But Kali was not a human child, and Bight was not her father. There were no reassuring wings to duck beneath while she sorted herself out.

Instead she remained silent, thinking of everything she had heard of dragons, of metallics. Knew how much of a threat they were to any Draconian, and how much more so for a lone Draconian child?

Her claws brushed carefully against the strap holding her bow against her back. Unstrung, she would be helpless.

"How did you meet him?" The thought of a dragon talking to a human was a strange one, it was likely rude to ask further, but she was curious. Could this human protect her from the dragon, if he wished to? Would the dragon listen? "Thank you, Lord Bight." She sounded uncertain, and not at all like she believed him.

She was certainly taking this far better than some had that was certain. He led her quietly for a moment before pausing and looking back to her at her question, "That is a tale for another time, after we get you settled in," he replied with a confident smile back to the young draconian.

At her uncertain thanks he paused and turned toward her, "Trust me when I say you have nothing to fear from him, Krisi," His tone reassuring and confident, meaning every word he said, the confident air about him seemed one that would be willing to stand before dragon's themselves. "But for now let's get you to Eva,"

After that he turned around once more and continued onwards until Eva came into view, moving through the crowd and right over to her, "Greetings Eva, I've someone I'd like you to meet," Stepping aside even as he spoke to present Kali to her, "Krisi, this is Eva, Eva this is Krisi, Kang's niece,"

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh?" She allows her eyesight to be directed by Bight's insistence. She brightens up as soon as she hears the explanation. "Oh, hello! Kang's going to be so thrilled to see you!"

Not only someone from home, but family. Even though she doesn't remember Kang mentioning Krisi, she trusts that this will be good news. Kang's felt isolated long enough. She speaks to Kali in the same tone she would an adult. "Are you looking for a place to stay, Krisi?"

[identity profile] shynotmeek.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I shall look forward to hearing it, Lord Bight." She met his gaze when he turned, trying to make herself believe him. "I will try to remember that, Lord Bight, should I encounter him. Shall I tell him to speak to you first before anything is decided?" She tried to smile, hesitant and still very uncertain. Her father was not on the ship, as earnest as the humans might be in their offers of protection, a dragon could destroy them all with little concern.

But she should listen to Lord Bight, he knew the dragon, Crucible listened to him, or so the stories said.

She bowed politely at the introduction, glancing at the woman on the way down. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Ma'am. I was told that my uncle had left instructions with you regarding the care of his family."

Bight dipped his head, "I shall speak with him the next chance I get," Which was technically in the present right then and there, "It would not hurt to do so however, he is rather fond of the river in the city if you wish to avoid him,"

Standing to the side from both Eva and Kali after they were introduced, nodding to Kali's comment, given that Kang had given he himself instructions to bring them to Eva he had little doubt Eva had been told similar, thus kept quiet for the moment.

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"He did. He and I are good friends aboard this ship, but he does a lot more of the adventuring than I do." She offers a hand to Krisi, forgetting if Draconians shake. "And you don't need to call me ma'am. That makes me feel like an old crone. Eva is fine."

She turns back to Bight momentarily. "Thank you. Has someone already posted up a message for Kang on the comm system."

[identity profile] shynotmeek.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you, Lord Bight." She hoped the dragon would listen, she had no interest in meeting a full grown metallic ever, much less by herself. "I will make certain to stay clear of the river, then, thank you for the warning."

She studied the woman, curious at this person her father would leave instructions with. She took the offered hand very carefully in her own, still unfamiliar with the very human gesture, but able to mimic it to some extent. "Of course, as you wish." Eva. Her father's friend. There were scars on her face, just barely visible under her hair. She wondered what sort of woman this was, to call her father friend. She glanced back at Lord Bight, eyes wide with curiosity."Comm System? Is there a way to contact my Uncle even though he is not currently on the ship?"

Bight watched the two with a patient smile, looking to Eva as she addressed him momentarily, drawing out his Omnicomm to look briefly "It is no problem and I do not believe so, unless they have set it to only appear to him," he commented thoughtfully before smiling back to the two.

"The Omnicomm system seems to work vast distances, however if they are deep in negotiations it is possible that he may not be able to reply until he is on his way back,"

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll notify him, if he hasn't been told already. We have technology here to communicate with people on off-ship missions, as well as just general chatter and gossip within the ship, Krisi." She studies Krisi a little bit, noting the politeness, the shyness that doesn't translate to fear, the curiosity. "I'm sorry he couldn't be here to meet you straightaway."

[identity profile] shynotmeek.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I am certain that he would have been here, if he were given the option. But the demands of his position are unchanged, I can wait for him to return and be ready to welcome him back when he does. It makes sense to send him on a diplomatic mission."

She wished he were here, but she also understood that her father must attend to matters - both of state and of the ship. "How does the technology work? Is there a way to access it? Are all messages open to all who might see them?"
dragonlordbight: (Bight!Oh?)

[personal profile] dragonlordbight 2011-07-06 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Bight nodded at Eva's reply, watching and studying them both as they spoke, at Kali's questions as to the Omnicomm's Bight showed her the device he was carrying "It is reasonably simple to use, by entering a message into the device, either by voice or by the keys provided, the message will then appear available to those you wish it available to. Messages can either be locked to specific individuals or left open to all," He replied showing her on the omnicomm how it could be done, "I'm sure Eva would know a bit more of the details as to the workings than I, however you should have been given one when you entered the room, if not one can be retrieved for you,"

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
She's so very articulate for a youngster, Eva thinks. And far more understanding of her uncle's absence than she should be.

She decides against telling Krisi that Kang was branded whilst planetside, that this is a diplomatic mission that's taken a particularly ugly turn.

"Councilor, I should warn you now that if it's technology, I don't know how to use it. I only just discovered that omnicomm open comments don't have to be addressed and signed," she jokes. "But I'm sure I can show you around the device, Krisi. If I can figure it out, you can."

[identity profile] shynotmeek.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I received one, the Chancellor showed me how to access the maps of the city, I had not yet encountered the message system, though. That is very clever. Faster than a courier and able to travel further as well."

She peered at the device, doing her best to soak up as much as she could while they were willing to explain. Useful, very useful. If her father could be contacted, then perhaps she could contact him as well. Or would it be better to wait and not distract him during his mission? Likely better to wait. She would still be here when he returned, distracting him at a vital stage of negotiations may result in an unfavorable result.

"Thank you, Eva, I would appreciate the assistance."
dragonlordbight: (Bight!Oh?)

[personal profile] dragonlordbight 2011-07-07 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Bight too had thought against letting her know of that particular aspect of the mission in progress, she would find out in time, but just after release was hardly a time for such things.

The more he watched her, the more that he got the feeling that she was more used to Kang's comings and goings than would be reasonably expected of a niece, perhaps she was a particularly close niece of his but nevertheless. It would be something he would think on.

"You at least have the advantage of such technology being reasonably common place in your world," Bight replied with a chuckle, shaking his head before casting his gaze back to the crowd, "I shouldn't linger much longer, now that you are in Eva's capable care, a pleasure meeting you Krisi, should you have need feel free to contact me over the communications systems," he gave a nod to them both before stepping away.

[identity profile] vissernone.livejournal.com 2011-07-07 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Eva's having many of the same thoughts as Bight. If Krisi was such a part of Jang's life, why has he never mentioned her before? She doubts Krisi means any harm - she must at least be a friend - so she assumes that if this is indeed an alias, it's one made for safety.

"Thank you again, Bight." She reaches to take Kali's hand. "Want to come see my attempt at home decorating?"
