Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"It'd be bad enough if that was all it was." Being grumpy about it was much easier than being sad.

"Christina Sierra" She takes the hand after a beat. "I think I'll need a lot of help getting used to all this." She glanced downwards, and decided it'd be better to start with the easier questions.

"Is this," she gestured to the thing she'd been forced to wear, "mandatory?"

And instead of shaking it as expected, he leaned down in a perfect bow to kiss the back of her fingertips for just a moment before straightening up.

"Is it mandatory? ...I wouldn't say mandatory, but it takes care of the basics. If you find some real clothes, though, you can wear whatever you want." A pause. "I think there's a dressmaker in the City, if I'm remembering right."

"I'd say you get used to it, but you don't, really."

She blinked with surprise at the kiss. Certainly didn't rake his time, did he? She found she didn't mind that much; the forwardness was a welcome distraction.

All that said, she still had principles, so of course she had to pull her hand back. "That's about as far from professional as you can get. How am I supposed to trust a word you've said now?"

The follow up after doing something like that is what really determines the difference between the real charmers and the over-confident idiots. She read it in a magazine once.

Michel didn't protest as she pulled her hand back - every girl had her own pace and boundaries, after all - but the breezy smile never left his face. "I didn't know I was trying to be professional. I just saw a beautiful woman who looked like she could use a friendly spirit, and ah - my heart went out to her."

That grin sparkled. "If you want professional, I could go put my uniform on and we could try it again."

Shameless, he was absolutely shameless. She gave him six and a half out of ten.

"Laying it on a little thick now, aren't you?" Smiling, despite herself. Maybe it was working a little. "No! Don't worry about it. Anyway, I need some more answers before you go running off."

She steeled herself, glancing down, before carrying on. "So, just how common is it to run into people you know here, anyway?"

"Only a little bit," the sniper assured her. "But answers I can provide - and as much of a cop-out as it is, the answer changes. Some people end up having all their friends and family show up month after month. Others haven't seen anyone they know since they woke up."

A short pause. "That's not considering all the folks who've woken up but been put back in the pods, either."

"Well, they're not putting me back in." Firm on this. She was starting to get her head around the fact she's alive and — very far away. The worry from the state the remainder of the crew was in started to creep in, leaving her mouth dry.

"Then, I guess I might as well just ask. Does the name Lichty — Lichtendahl Tsery, mean anything to you?"

Michael shook his head, the smile dimming slightly. "Sorry," he admitted. "Can't say that it does. Friend of yours?" Or more than a friend, perhaps? Find a cute girl here during podpop and she's already got an old flame - kind of discouraging, eh?

[identity profile] opsys-stylist.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh. I see, thank you." A little downcast. She felt tears threaten creep their way back in with spindly fingers, but she blinked and smiled them away. Now wasn't the time, even if she wanted it to be.

Sheepishly, arms behind her back, "I guess it can't be helped, then. He was — is. I was with him the last I remember, so I just assumed..."

The sniper quirked an eyebrow, though his smile was a bit less cocky and slightly more genuine this time around. "Hey now, none of those rainclouds. Didn't you know? A pretty girl always looks best when she's smiling."

"Your friend could show up in a few months, or a year from now. There's a lot of people down in those pods, you know."

He caught the little past-tense slip-up but said nothing. After all, this friend of hers wouldn't be the only dead man walking on the ship, would he?

[identity profile] opsys-stylist.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
wow this is really really late omg i'm so sorry

He was right, he was completely right. Bursting into tears again would do nothing to help, and she'd done enough crying on arrival. It was time to get it together a little. She pressed the heels her hands to her eyes, one, two, three, and down again. She offered a small smile.

"Thanks, I needed that." Could they please change the subject now? Actually, she decided, better to take the initiative. She aimed for a more light-hearted tone, arms crossed behind her.

"So, I take it you've been here a while, huh?

[personal profile] shootingblancs 2011-07-13 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Please, don't thank me for something like that," he grinned again, intentionally keeping the mood up."

Michael caught her change of subject, but decided to roll with it. As the lady wished. "I've been here for... huh, guess it's almost been a year," he mused. "Kinda hard to tell time out in the Bleed. But it's been a while."

[identity profile] opsys-stylist.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
A whole year? She'd comment on that but, "The bleed?" Had that been mentioned before? She knew she hadn't been paying as much attention as she should have been. He'd said it casually, but...

"That doesn't sound fun."

He quirked his head to the side, indicating the windows of the Obs Deck with the motion - or, more specifically, the mottled space beyond it that twisted and turned and moved in ways that were beautiful if a bit unsettling. "The Bleed," he said. "We're in it right now. Think of it like the universe between universes."

"It's not like any space I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of space."
