Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Excused, dawg," Punchy says, giving Soren a bit of a wary glance. Those are some weird clothes, man. "You done tripping over your personal space?"

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That voice...

"Oh. It's the country boy." The one who insisted he was from some kind of city. Except no one from a city of any respectable size spoke in such a manner.

"It's you who should learn not to touch others without their permission. Basic manners."

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Country? I ain't from no country. I'm from the hood," he says, rolling his eyes. So apparently clothes don't put Soren in a more tolerable state. "Maybe if you weren't dragging your feet, I wouldn'ta had to kick your ass in gear. I said, you done tripping, or you gonna hold that against me forever?"

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Soren had no idea what the 'hood' was, but now that he was dressed, he could attempt to be cordial. "It's nothing to be ashamed of. Some of the finest soldiers I know were from the outskirt villages."

He frowned. "As long as you don't attempt it again, I suppose forgiveness is in order."

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Alex tagged along watching Soren, and waved his hand with the large gold star-encrusted ring on the thumb at...oh it was the red-haired boy! "Hi! I found Ifrit!"

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Outskirt...villages...yo, dawg, what kinda hoods you been hanging in? And are dresses the usual threads there?" he says, giving a skeptical look at Soren's clothes again. "I ain't asking your forgiveness, man. Don't be frontin' on me."

He looks down and sees the little kid again. "Hey, man, that's dope! I found Puppet, too!"

He makes the little nun puppet wave for Alex.

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Soren glances back over his shoulder at Alex, choosing not to comment on that ridiculous hand puppet on Punchy's hand. For now.

"These are mage's robes. Are you honestly telling me you can't tell the difference between these and a dress?" Because seriously, Punchy, that would make you even dumber than Soren had initially projected.

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-01 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's brill!" Alex declares upon seeing Puppet. He then looks up to Soren and says, sagaciously. "They haven't got a lot of magic in America, and when they do, they wear tuxes."

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"What the shit's a mage?" Punchy asks, apparently forgetting that he's in front of a child. And probably not raising Soren's esteem of him any. He turns back to Alex. "I know, right? This shizz is worth mad benjamins, you catch my drift?"

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Soren motions with one hand and, apropos of nothing, a brief gust of wind kicks up. "I'm a magic user."

Luckily, Soren had no idea how to recognize modern Earth cursing. "Tuxes? America?"

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"America's a country; I can tell because of the way he talks. Tuxes are nice suits. With trousers. I'm pretty sure everyone who does magic in America wears them, instead of robes like Merlin or something. Brill spell, by the way!"

A loud, low sigh reverberates through the air around Alex.

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"That's sick," Punchy says, looking a little impressed at the idea of magic. "I mean I ain't from the country, kiddo. I'm from the streets."

Just keep telling yourself that, Punchy.

"What was that?"

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, I see. Formal wear. Where I come, mages tend to wear loose-fitting clothing. Easier for a sharp implement to miss you if the person aiming it at you doesn't quite know where the clothes end and you begin." Also, it was stylish. "Thank you, Alex."

He looks at Punchy. "A wind spell." Duh.

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooh, good idea! Like capes! And I think he meant Ifrit. That was Ifrit," Alex adds to Punchy.

"~Charmed~" Ifrit says, voice dripping with sarcasm.

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"People tend to be capping you a lot, Mage?" It's not a bad idea, and not one Punchy's entirely discounted. His own outfit is, despite its ridiculous color scheme and general excess, quite practical.

"Holy shit, that thing talks?"

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, yes. Quite a few people make use of cloaks of some kind. They're surprisingly practical, should you need shelter from the rain or a convenient source of fabric for bandages."

And to Punchy's question: "Of course. It's a fairly standard battle strategy for melee fighters to target mages. We do not wear armor, and we are not particularly skilled with a sword."

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
"~This thing certainly does. I can see you're going to be a wonderful influence on the kid.~"

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"So why not just bite the bullet and wear armor, dawg? Or does that get in the way of your magical voodoo shit?"

He grins at the ring. "I'ma try. I like this kid."

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Iron is bad for Magic," Alex says sagely.

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well... not in Soren's world, but...

"Armor is heavy and unwieldy, especially for those who spend their lives in study, rather than learning how to cart around a few hundred pounds of metal. Best to move fast and learn how to dodge."

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ifrit remains silent on both the Cold Iron Issue and Punchy's lack of irony, for now. Alex just looks up.

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, genius, here's an idea. Sleep a little less and you can get fit and hit the books. And eat a sandwich, man, jeezy h."

He fondles Puppet a bit, not sure if he should mention that she might be magic.

[identity profile] facepunching.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I already get next to no sleep. I double as tactician and second in command to the leader of our mercenary group." Soren curls his lip slightly at the mention of food -- he's a picky eater.

And he eyes Puppet with juuuust a little disdain.

[identity profile] alexaddin.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"~Yes, perhaps the man commanding the winds should sleep occasionally.~"

"Everybody should have hisorher own specialties," Alex recites politely.

[identity profile] masterofnun.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
So you're a hopped-up sidekick," Punchy says.

He points to Soren. "This homie's specialty is being a jackwagon."
