The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

Negi was in the crowd floating overhead and doing his customary scan for his students, telepathically reaching out via card. Finding none at the moment, he floated around, holding up Matt's old sign that read "Ask me Questions!"

He wasn't an official part of the council or anything, but any sign that had "Come to the dark side, we have cookies" on the backside was still appealing.

And there was somebody.

"Excuse me," Nanaki called up to Negi.

Looking down, Negi floated down on his staff and placed it on his back. "Hello!" he chirped. "I'm Negi, nice to meet you. I take it you have a question or three?"

"A few, yes," he replied with a nod.

"We've been chosen to fight enemy. Who or what is this Ohm, and why have I specifically been chosen?"

"The Ohm are a group of reality and world-destroying beings, with swarming capabilities. They are quite deadly and ridiculously powerful, with many units. And the Dialgig joined forces and saved us as refugees, but we've also fought against them."

Negi held up his Omnicom. "You can watch the logs of our previous encounters with them on your own and in the media library."

He looked at the Omnicomm. "What are those, exactly?" He had received his own, and carried it with him. It reminded him of the PHS, but it seemed so much more confusing. And Nanaki had enough trouble using that...

"They're called Omnicoms, and are used to keep in touch with people, as well as accessing maps of the city and reading up on other various things," replied Negi. "Sort of like a personal book."

So it was like the PHS ... that Nanaki had set up to keep around his neck. Guess he'd be doing the same thing with this device. He nodded to Negi, moving to his next question.

"Why have these Ohm chosen to do what they are doing?"

"We didn't learn it till recently, but apparently they're not a hive mind like we thought. If it were it would be almost random violence. To be honest, we don't know the whole reason why other than them fearing us for some reason."

Negi sighed. "It's complex."

"Fearing us," he repeated. "I wonder why..."

It was strange, but not unbelievable. When you didn't understand something, sometimes you feared it. Attacking was not an unusual response to those trains of behavior.

"I do not plan on doing so at this very moment. But because we have been chosen, are we allowed to decline this call to battle?" Red had seen children down there, certainly they weren't fit for this.

"I've seen people take up roles in different stations than front-line combat," said Negi. "Like medical or support for the fliers and such. Some kids stay out of it, but I'm a front-liner."

"So the children can return home?"

Nanaki still didn't get why Stacy would wind up bringing them here in the first place.

"That's what we're hoping, that everyone'll be able to return home soon. With our worlds gone, all we can do is stay on Stacy till the wars over."

Aaaaand there was the word.

"Gone? What do you mean gone?"

"As in boom, no more. The Ohm possess the capability to destroy realities outright." Negi sighed. "It's why we're on the ship in the first place, because we're refugees."

"That ... that can't be. That can't be!" he said, a worried and shocked edge to his voice. "The entire planet...?!"

"The entire planet, and not just yours but mine too, and everyone else's. We're all from different worlds, for the most part and it's depressing to go through this with new people." said Negi.

Nanaki did his best to not sound completely scared at the thought, though he still did looked very troubled.

"They're ... gone? For good? Just like that?"

"The reason why we fight is that there's a possibility of getting our worlds back. And if the Ohm aren't stopped, they'll continue to destroy worlds." Negi shrugged, sighing. "I wish there was something else I could say that would ease your mind but this is the troubling reality."

Nanaki's ears perked up, his tail twitching a couple of times when Negi had said that. There was hope. "A possibility?"

"That's right. Apparently there's a way to restore our worlds, we just need to find it first," said Negi. "So there's always hope."

"In that case," he answered, straightening up, "I will help you all."

Negi nodded, smiling at that. "Thank you for that decision. When the time comes, we'll know when it is to fight. I'll show you the media library as well, so you can see their actions."

"Thank you." He gave Negi a thankful nod. "I am Nanaki."

"Negi Springfield. Nice to meet you Nanaki." he smiled at him. "Is there anything else you need to know? I've been making rounds offering what I know to newcomers."
