Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Her brain was numb with disbelief. But not just for her world being destroyed, or entire worlds. Not even with her friends and family gone. It was the fact that the Doctor didn't stop it. That hurt the most.

But she moved forward, that's what she was good at, and after getting the rather ... personable suit (better than nudity, at least) she moved forward with the rest. Just as unsure, just as stupefied, but ready to do whatever she could and learn everything possible. The Doctor didn't stop anything, but clearly someone thought she could.

Kaya was still shaking her head, getting her bearings after talking with a...a pony, was it? Well, this WAS Stacy, and Beastboy had pretty much shattered her whole "animals don't talk" world anyway. For now, she figured she could keep moving, find out if anyone else needed assistance.

And there was a rather pretty young lady still looking like she was in a daze. It wasn't an unfamiliar look of course, but one that she could at least lend a hand for.

"Hi," Kaya said, looking vaguely apologetic. "You look lost. I'd like to lend a hand if I could. My name is Kaya."

[identity profile] atruedoctor.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
She turned to face Kaya, taking a few moments to actually register the person before her. She seemed young and human enough, the sight of a form so familiar in someplace so alien giving her a wave of relief. She shook her head in apology and offered a hand in greeting.

"I'm Martha, and yeah everything's just ... I could really use some pointers."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's what we're here for! To start, you can ask me if there's anyone you're looking for in particular: I do know quite a few people on the ship, so that's a good place to get started. But I know there must be a million more questions, and answering them might be easier. So ask away!"

Poor woman. She could see the confusion on her face, and though she didn't look that much older than her, she could tell she had seen much in her world.

[identity profile] atruedoctor.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Could she honestly name all the people she wanted to see? Mother, father, siblings, Tom, her friends ... though, of all the names coming to her mind who would be the most likely here? She knew full well who she really wanted to see right now. But what the hell could she say even if he was here?

"I'm ... I can't think of anyone. I mean, I can but I'm not exactly sure where to start. Just ... I don't know, how long have you been here? Yeah, that's a good place to start."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've been here a good long time," Kaya answered. "It's a little hard to measure a the time, I'll admit: you would think, with all of the technology on this ship we'd have a way to measure that, but we are in space, so that would naturally follow,I suppose. I've been here awhile, so I've seen a lot happen in all that time. It's a bit hard to get down to answer the exact question one wants, so you might have to help me there."

The easiest to start with were names. "What is your name?"

[identity profile] atruedoctor.livejournal.com 2011-07-09 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that was a long answer. But an answer that didn't really give her anything to go on. Still, can't begrudge the woman for not knowing, and honestly Martha can't help her with trying to get a better answer. She should have remembered, measurement of time in space was was tricky thing. Wibbly-wobbly.

"Martha," she replied again with a soft smile. Things were getting at a jumble, it seemed. "A bit delayed, but a pleasure to meet you, Kaya."

Wandering through the room is a not-very-tall young man who, to all appearances, seems to be completely plantsuit-free. Instead, he's wearing a button down shirt, a patterned neckerchief knotted around his neck...and a kilt.

He's looking around the room, clearly keeping an eye out for someone in particular. Judging by the faint frown on his face, he's not finding who he's looking for.

"Och, he's not back yet," he mutters. "Just like the Doctor to wind up caught up in some mission when he should be here instead."

[identity profile] atruedoctor.livejournal.com 2011-07-02 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Martha's heart seemed to leap into her throat as her lungs couldn't quite recall how to breathe. Her brain was no help either, only playing back what she heard over and over like a broken record.

" ... "

She whirled where she stood, trying to register just where it had come from and finally focused on a young man in a kilt. A kilt? A kilt. She went to him as quick as her feet could take her, getting perhaps a bit too much in his face. But this was important. Doctor important.

"What did you say?"

The young man in question turns at the lass's voice, giving her a rather confused look in the process. "Hey?"

Why would she be asking what he said? Unless...he's just gone and spoken out loud without quite meaning to, which Jamie realizes is probably what he's just gone and done. His mouth pulls off to one side as he gives himself a swift mental kick for that, then he rubs at the back of his neck, apparently oblivious to the fact she's all up in his personal space. That sort of thing's never bothered him.

"Aye, well, some of the crew are off on a mission for Stacy, and there's a friend of mine who's gone down to help them. I was hoping he'd be back by now, but things must still be a wee bit complicated down there at the moment."

This is a bit of an understatement, but he's guessing she's new and therefore unaware about what's going on down on Galilee. He's not sure he can really explain that part of things right this second, so he settles for seeing if maybe he can answer some other questions instead. "I'm sorry, I'd not meant to cause ye any confusion. My name's Jamie. Is there something else I can help ye with, maybe?"

[identity profile] atruedoctor.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Right, that had been pretty forward. Sure, Martha was a woman who set out to get a mission done when her head was in it, but this was just another person. Maybe she had misheard? She shook her head and stepped back a bit, giving the man some space even if he hadn't noticed the lack of it. Given the situation she had found herself in within just this past hour, no wonder her nerves are frayed. Maybe she even misheard.

"I'm Martha. And ... God, I'm not really sure. It's just all so sudden, I swear it's like I'm beyond help."

"It's a lot to take in, I'll admit," he replies, not unkindly. It seems the more of these things he goes to, the worse it seems to get. Jamie brings his hand up, absently stroking his chin while he thinks.

"Well, have ye gotten an Omnicomm, yet?" It seems as good a place to start as any, and better than going into the 'your universe's been destroyed' part of things. "It has some of those file-things on it that might be helpful. Or... is there someone specific you're looking for, maybe? I don't know all the crew but I might be able to tell ye if someone's awake."

[identity profile] atruedoctor.livejournal.com 2011-07-09 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh, would that be this little ring?" She flashed her comm ring, given to her with her strange suit. Seeing it on her now-gloved hand gave her a bit of a chill, the pulses of the suit suddenly making her feel claustrophobia, and she quickly brought her hand back down. Right, just more to get used to. When it rains it pours.

"Someone ...," This was the second time she had been asked this. Was it common to see others? Perhaps the entire planet had been saved. The room with the pods had certainly been mind-bogglingly big, who knew?

Just like the Doctor ...

If anyone could have survived it would be him.

"Yeah. A friend I know, goes by the Doctor." She should have just jumped in from the start. Either Jaime would know and she was right to assault him or he wouldn't.

The Scot gives her a quick shake of his head. "Och, no, those are the comm rings. The Omnicomm is a bitty computer, about the size of...here, let me show ye."

Jamie pulls up the sporran with one hand, using the other to rummage around in it. For such a small pouch, however, he seems to be able to reach into it quite far - to the point where his arm disappears into it up to his elbow. He finally finds his Omnicomm, and pulls it out. He's about to hold it up so she can take a look when she mentions the Doctor. Well, that would explain why she was so eager to find out what he was talking about before.

"Aye, I know the Doctor. He's here...well, not here here, at the moment. Stacy has ye go on missions from time to time, and he's on one of those. With luck, though, he'll be back from that soon."

[identity profile] atruedoctor.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Martha closed her eyes and gave a shake of her head and a smile, maybe of relief? Or maybe it's of obviousness. Of course the Doctor would be here. But soon the smile faded to a look of intrigue and confusion. Once again Martha ignored all common courtesy of conversation to get the information she needed, asking her questions is rapid succession.

"You said he was on a mission, where is he? How did he say he was going to be? Then again, him and time, honestly "Time Lord." Wait, how do you know him? Did you travel with him too? My God, how many of us are there? I thought it was just good-old Rose and Jack but, really? Are we worth points or something?"

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2011-07-14 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's a lot of questions, even for him, and he blinks, momentarily nonplussed by so many of them coming out all at once. He honestly can't blame her for it, though, and sets down to answer them the best he can.

"He's on a planet called Galilee, but I don't know when he'll be back. As long as it takes the crew that's down there to finish, I suppose. You'd have to ask the Captain or one of the Councilors if they have more of an idea."

However, given the way time works on Stacy, he thinks they might not be able to tell. He's unaware of the communications with the other crew being blocked, so can't tell her about that part of things, unfortunately. Instead, he sticks to what he know, in the hopes he might be able to help.

"And aye, I traveled with him, but it was a long time ago. Centuries, if Rory's right." It's not hard to tell that she probably has no idea who that is, if the only other companions she knows are Rose and whoever this Jack person is. "He's another one of us, and there's Amy, his fiancee. And wee Molly - she's their adopted daughter. And then ye would have River, and, well, me."

Right now, he has no clue that Victoria is even awake, let alone wandering through the Obs Deck looking for him. This is probably a good thing, because he'd be more than a wee bit distracted at the moment, and probably not nearly as able to field all these questions.

"I don't know who this Jack is, but I've met Rose. I've not seen her recently, though. She may be with GLaDOS, but good luck getting her to tell ye anything."
