'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Oh," Katara said, and now she felt even dumber than usual. She really should pay more attention to all of the histories of the people on the ship: it helped to avoid a lot of confusion. "I think I remember Julian mentioning Emma though...I think Carol might have too..."

"Sorry, I'd heard the name on the ship before, I assumed you knew about him," Katara said. "But then, there's a lot of superhero and mutant organizations on the ship. Young avengers, Avengers, Xmen, The Outsiders...there's a lot of them. It;s a little hard to keep track!"

She took the hand and shook it, grinning. "So...how are you dealing?"

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Jubilee chuckled. "Well, he might've been at the mansion, but I wasn't there very long, when the new kids came in. Had my own stuff t'do, ya know?" She shook Katara's hand. She recognised a few of the names.

"Well, I didn't expect such a high mutant population, but it's still not that weird. Just hopin' to meet up with a few familiar peeps."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably so," Katara said. looking sheepish,. "I still have a lot to learn about mutants AND superheroes AND aliens, so I can't even pretend I'm an expert at it, ya know? SO many different people arrive on this ship, its a bit like catch up all the time."

She shrugged. "At this point nothing is weird, trust me. Even YOU might be surprised at all the things you'll find here. I can help you around though, if you need it."

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Jubilee laughed. "Right now, Sabretooth could show up and hug me and it would probably be the weirdest thing to happen. This is..." She tried to figure out how to explain it. "Well, this is Tuesday, really. I was in outer space by the time I was fourteen." She shrugged. It was life as an X-Man.

"I need to find some X-peeps, but I'd appreciate the help," Jubilee said honestly.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Katara had no idea who a Sabertooth was, but at least she was pretty relaxed about being on the ship in the first place...almost too relaxed, in a way. She was lucky then: adjusting to things here could sometimes be pretty difficult.

"Of course! There's a lot of places you should know about. The Sensoriums, the Media Library, the City...there's actually a lot to see on the ship."

She smiled. "Um, I know it sounds weird, but I really like your hair. It's pretty neat!"

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Jubilee grinned. "Is there shopping?" She asked. She could totally murder a few hours of shopping right now.

She blinked at the compliment, but grinned wider. "Thanks. Your hair's kinda cool too. I totally can't pull off the long hair. It always looks like I accidentally electrocuted myself."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Katara sighed. "If we go off world," she said. "Honestly, if I could actually get to do that for a little bit, it'd be nice. But every time you think it might be a normal day, something strange happens. You never get the chance to even breathe."

She smiled. "Well, normally I have hair loopies, but I like it long a little too. Still, short hair is SO much simpler and really neat to look at!"

Katara giggled at the mateaphor. "I don't think I could pull off your look either, but thanks!"

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"No shopping? Man, that totally blows." Jubilee pouted. "I mean, how are we supposed to get our retail therapy in if there's no shopping?" She shook her head. "that's just mean, dude."

Jubilee grinned. "Ya know, if we can find some hair dye, my hair gets... eclectic." She winked. "It's a rare thing that it's only black."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Trust me, I know," Katara said, grinning. "The only time we were able to do anything like that was when we went off world for a little while. It's shame too: if I had the chance, I think I'd get some new clothes, maybe even some metals for a weapon of my own. We have a blacksmith here, and I know she's really good at what she does."

Katara grinned. "I think I'd like to see that. The only real dyes we use in my world are henna based, and they're for skin. If someone's hair has a different color, its usually because of an accident. I like yours though, its good on you!"

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I take it ditching this place doesn't happen very often huh?" She sighed. "Seriously? That's just cruel. I need my fashion ya know? Well, if we have a sewing machine and the material, I can make some... I think." Her fashion sewing wasn't as good as her decorating sewing though.

"Henna?" Jubilee winked. "I've been known to wear the art work now and again. But the hair? Totally chemical." She sighed. "I feel weird with black hair."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, not really," Katara sighed. "I mean, I'm sure you'd get access to sewing machines an everything, but we really don't get to go off the ship too often. But there are the Sensoriums where you can recreate places that you like, and there's the city, where if you look hard enough, you'll probably find a place that reminds you of home."

The waterbender nodded. "I'd like to know a bit more about the chemicals that can make your hair a different color! I don't know who'd be able to do it, but we have a pretty varied crew. I'm sure someone would know!"

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Jubilee smirked. "I'll figure something out. The X-Men here won't recognise me if I'm not wearing my right clothing." And her yellow trench. She missed it already.

"Gimme a few scientists and some time, and they've gotta come up with something!" Jubilee had faith in science. Especially if Hank was here.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"That would be great!" Katara said. "I wouldn't mind seeing that either. I'm always pretty interested in the stuff other people wear. Of course, some of the outfits the superheroes wear can be pretty revealing. Ms. Marvel's outfit just bugged people when I wore it once."

Though the reaction from her brother was pretty funny.

"I'm sure they will!" Katara said. "What kind of coloors have you dyed your hair before?"

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Revealing isn't the half of it." Logan fought naked, more often than not. And she'd done it more than once too. You learned to get over it real quick.

"Oh, all kinds of colours." Jubilee grinned. "First time I ever did it, I tried for red, white and blue, and ended up with green and red."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Now that was a...kind of a surprising thing to hear for Katara, but she supposed every world was a little different. In other worlds, she supposed, that sort of fighting must be intense.

"That sounds pretty neat!" Katara said, started to rub her hands wickedly. "Wow, if I did that, my brother Sokka would freak. That would be a really mean thing to do. Totally."

Katara tried her hardest

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, was that a bit of an evil streak she heard? Jubilee grinned wickedly. "Mean? Why?" Jubilee asked innocently. "He's your brother, not your keeper." She pointed out. "Besides, there are dyes that only last a week or so, and they tend to be easy to wash out." A wink. "No reason why you couldn't... experiment a bit."

Jubilee was all about the corruption. ALL about it.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, if even the least bit of change happens to me, Sokka tends to get all flustered about it. He means well, but he takes the changes I make on the ship pretty badly: thinks I'm going to forget all about our people and our ways, I won't, but it is funny to see him get all upset about it. I'm all for experimentation."

She paused. "If you ever get to the Sensorium, we should recreate a market place...or whatever you call where you buy clothes and things."

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Jubilee grinned wickedly. "Oh, tweaking noses of big brothers? That? Is so much fun." She winked. "I've not got an older brother, but I've got a few guys I like tweaking the noses of." And hopefully there would be a few here she could tweak.

"Sensorium?" She asked.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Katara laughed in spite of herself. "He's still adjusting to everything in the ship. He thisnk I've gotten a little too comfortable with all the change and it bothers him. I think it might help to shake his perspective every once and awhile...let him know that he can change a little too, and I won't mind it."

She nodded. "It's like...a simulation where everything looks and feels real but isn't."

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah yes, the ever present 'you're THIS way!' argument." Jubilee grinned. "I don't think my friends realise I'm not still thirteen." She said, shaking her head.

"Ya know, I've heard of things like that, back home." Danger room? Yes. Yes. HELL YES.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Katara shook her head. "He's pretty much like that, but he;'s a really good guy. Loyal, caring, and willing to stick his neck out for you if you need him. He makes me really mad sometimes, but I'm glad he's on the ship. Even if your siblings drive you crazy, you can't help but worry if they're not around. Still, I'm not a little girl anymore than you are: I'm GOING to do different things."

She grinned at Jubilee's reaction. "Maybe you can recreate these markets you call shopping malls. I think I'd like to see them."

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Jubilee chuckled. "They always mean well, it's just they can't stand to see us grow up either." She knew that too.

"I could probably figure out a mall." Jubilee agreed. "Think I remember what they look like." She teased.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That was true. She knew that Sokka had always meant well, and still did look after her when he could. She would have to find a way to try and shorten the gap between them, although needling him a bit was something that just came naturally to her. "The way I'm headed always seems to freak him out."

"That would be great!" Katara said, grinning. "I wonder how I'd look with a blue streak in my hair?"

Yes, she was still thinking about that.

"So tell me...what kind of world are you from? I could guess, but I know that everyone's experiences are different."

[identity profile] fireworkbubbles.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Blue?" Jubilee eyed her critically. "What about purple? I could totally see you with both, but causing your brother to collapse in a heap the first time out, probably isn't the best idea." She grinned, winking.

Jubilee shrugged. "It's just Earth. Mutants, superheroes, saving the universe, friends, family..." She shook her head. "I mean, it's home and stuff. Just like yours is home to you." She smiled crookedly. "Not real sure how to explain it."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Purple," Katara said, toying with the idea. "I like that. I figured blue, since that's the color that usually fits me, but purple would be pretty new, and I've never really worn the color before. Why don't we give it a shot when you have the chance? We may just have to make do with Sokka flailing a bit, but I'm sure he;ll get over it. I didn't complain when we wore those glasses."

Katara shook her head. "Home is pretty different to a lot of people though. My home is all ice and water, and there are very few people ion the ship who think that would be their ideal kind of place to live. Meanwhile, I've only seen a little bit of earth, and no mutants there though there are plenty on the ship. What's it look like, where you're from?"
