CEEEEEELEBRATE GOOD TIMES~

Several buildings in the City had been completely destroyed during Aang's rampage, but a few had survived relatively unscathed. It had only taken Kang two days to repair the Drunken Dragon; he'd done so by himself, not even waiting for his leg to heal up a bit first.

Usually, he didn't bother lighting any candles or using the fireplace in the tavern unless it was a period when the artificial sun had set. He could see perfectly fine in the dim light. For the celebration, though, he'd thrown the windows open wide, scrounged up every candle he could find, and started up a fire, knowing that human vision wasn't as good as his own. The tables surrounding the stage had been cleaned, as well as the tankards, and the door was propped open. The bozak had even wrestled two of the 60-gallon barrels from the back room into a corner of the main room for easier access, one of cactus juice and one of ale. If more was needed, he was sure he could get someone to help bring out another.

Tess had commandeered the kitchen to make her food, bringing in her own equipment. Kang had been slightly afraid at first that she was going to burn the place down, but nothing had happened yet. She seemed to know what she was doing, even if she'd given him a few scares.

The sunlight glistened on the old sword blade teeth and dinnerplate eyes of the comical-looking wooden dragon grinning above the entrance. Come in, relax, have a drink and a bite to eat!

[OOC note: Both drinks are alcoholic, and the cactus juice has twice the kick of the ale. :D;]

Still trying to get use to the idea of magic herself, Kaylee isn't about to question Katara's tactics and abilities. She's just happy to see Jamie feeling better. "Looks a lot better," she agrees, observing his leg. Way better.

"Good to know. Least I know I'll never be lackin' in a seat, long as there's an empty one near ya." Almost lazily, Kaylee leans an elbow on the table, and rests her cheek on her hand. "You enjoyin' yourself?"

Seeing Kaylee happy seems to be making Jamie happy. Well, okay, maybe the alcohol is helping just a bit as well. He's not drinking the cactus juice, but it's been quite some time since he's had a good ale - and he's had a few of them by now.

"Aye. It's a grand time." Jamie rolls the 'r' a bit more than he usually does (quite possibly on purpose), then takes another drink from his tankard. He peers over the top of it, his gaze drifting to her arm. After a moment, however, he manages to focus his attention on her face and gives her a slightly muzzy-around-the-edges smile.

"How about ye? Did ye get your arm fixed up?"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Any happy is good happy so long as it's not Early happy, and seeing that Jamie is so pleasantly cheerful works wonders on Kaylee's own cheer (not that it isn't already a greater cheer than normal).

The fact that his accent is even better to listen to and giggle at doesn't help matters much.

She managed a nod. "Stitched me up nice. Ain't s'posed to use the arm for a bit though. Gotta give it time to heal."

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-19 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
He'll be glad to provide any extra levels of cheer he can. And if that means she wants to giggle at his accent, he's fine with that. More than fine, really.

"I'm glad to hear ye were able to get patched up," he says, seriously enough. He means it, too - not in the least because he was worried that he had hurt her more when he nearly fell off the tank.

He's feeling too good to stay completely serious, though, and a bit of a teasing note creeps into to his voice. "I suppose that means ye willna be able to teach the ship that reel I showed ye, then."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
There are plenty of people on the ship who take the time to giggle at hers (though Jamie does do a decent imitation of it, she'll give him that much), so she's not all that worried about giggling over someone else's.

"Didn't doubt I'd get there, just a matter of when more than anythin' else." She's more happy it got fixed up without an infection starting.

Kaylee obviously pouts at the reel comment, though there's still plenty of merriment in her eyes. "Not for a bit. Can't even work on half of engineerin' til it heals up, either."

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-19 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie's not immune to the pout, unfortunately. He was going to try and needle her a little more, but doesn't for the moment. Instead he winds up saying, "Aye, well, I don't know about that. I'm sure ye would have plenty of people would be willing to help ye and be a set of extra arms if ye wanted."

He could probably be easily persuaded. Especially in his current inebriated state.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Definitely wouldn't mind the help," she admits, tapping her chin, "though there's nothin' like doin' it yourself, y'know? But as long as I could hunt out somebody who didn't mind my hoverin' so much, it could work."

She was use to teaching people. Hell, she'd taught Book plenty about Serenity. Why not work with somebody else on Stacy? Kaylee smiled, a slightly mischievous grin. "Just need a volunteer or two..."
bonnypiperlad: (ohcrap)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-19 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I could help ye," Jamie says without thinking, then realizes belatedly that that pretty much does mean he just volunteered. The ale is going to his head more than he realized. Or it might be the cute girl.

"Ah, that is, I could help, but I'm no so good with some of these things..." He doesn't even really have an idea of what Engineering does, other than build machines he doesn't understand. And blow things up, but that's mostly Wyn.

Unfortunately, that grin of Kaylee's doesn't bode well for him managing to back-pedal his way out of this.

My tenses are flying all over the place :\

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Kaylee's not really planning on taking a good portion of the conversations she's had tonight seriously. Everyone's been drinking, and people tend to say things they don't really mean while they're inebriated.

"I'd be happy to have the extra hands," she admits, and while she's still smiling the mischief has left her eyes for the moment, "and you're quick enough to pick things up I could direct you through with no problem. Wouldn't make you do it if you didn't want to, though. No good for anybody if somebody's not happy 'bout where they're at, y'know?"
bonnypiperlad: (seriously?)

It's all good. :)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-20 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. When Kaylee puts it that way... Jamie is pleased that she thinks highly enough of him that he could do the work. And, to be honest, he's been feeling a bit at loose ends about the ship. He wants to help in some way, but just hasn't really found a place where he thought he'd fit in.

He's serious as well when he replies, "I do want to help ye, Kaylee. I just thought ye were joking. But...if ye think I can do it, I'd be willing to try."

Look at them goooooo 8D

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Kaylee thinks highly enough of him for it. After all they've been through the last few weeks, how could she not have a little faith in the guy? Really, it's a completely natural idea.

"I know you could, with a bit of work at it. Wouldn't wanna push ya to it, though..."
bonnypiperlad: (thoughtful)

Ffffff. XD

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-20 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Finishing his tankard, Jamie sets it down on the table. It's his turn now to put his elbow on the table and prop himself up on his hand - although it's his chin and not his cheek that's being supported.

"Tell ye what. One of us should remember this conversation, and then we can talk about it again when I'm a wee bit more sober. Fair enough?" He's pretty sure he'll still say yes, but it's possible Kaylee might change her mind. Only fair to give her the option, in his opinion.

He looks thoughtfully at her for a moment, then says, "It is too bad about your arm, and my leg. It'd be verra nice to dance with a bonny lass such as yourself this evening."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I will do my very best to remember," she promises, though half of her words are slurred around and it sounds very much like she might not remember a thing in the morning. She does have a pretty good memory for things, though. If it were Simon trying to remember, on the other hand, Jamie'd be in trouble.

Kaylee looks almost longingly at the dance floor for a moment, but shrugs it off quick enough. "Just means we'll have to make a rain check on it." Another pull from her mug, and she's giggling again. "Bonny lass, hmmmm?"
bonnypiperlad: (puzzled)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-20 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Me too," Jamie agrees, his words sounding a bit slurred as well. He may or may not actually remember in the morning, depending on how the rest of the evening goes. But time enough to burn that bridge when he's standing on it.

For now, he just looks at her, slightly baffled as to why she's giggling. "Aye, ye are. What's amusing about that?" There's a faint frown, and he adds, "And what's a rain check?"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
They've got that understanding, then. Kaylee raises her mug to it, and drinks once more.

She's not really sure why it's so funny, it just is. "Long time since I've heard anythin' along those lines, maybe. 'N a rain check is like...like an I.O.U. Agreement that we'll have to do it another time."
bonnypiperlad: (talking)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-20 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Jamie's still not entirely sure why that would cause a fit of the giggles, but hey - to each their own. "Well, maybe ye should hear it more often. Tell ye what, we'll do one of those rain check things when ye want to hear it again."

He nods, pleased with that suggestion, and goes to take a drink. There's a deep frown when he realizes it's empty. Turning the tankard upside down, he shakes it to make sure. A few drops fall out, splashing onto the table, but that seems to be it. "Och."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll remember that," she agrees. She probably won't, but oh well. Any way you look at it, some things like that are better for surprises.

Kaylee watches Jamie's mug carefully, and she's halfway out of her seat already when she begins speaking. "Want another? Can get it in a jiffy if you do!"
bonnypiperlad: (sideprofile)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-21 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
He's about to protest, but she is offering, and he's enjoying himself too much to stop drinking now. "Well, if ye were going to get another, I wouldna mind."

He adds, teasingly, "That is, if ye don't mind waiting on me."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
To make a point of it, she downs the rest of her drink as soon as she's standing. "Yep, gotta go refill my own anyhow," she grins, taking both mugs in hand. Really, the little wink she gives him in response to his last comment really can't be helped.

It doesn't take her long at all to return, both mugs full, and she slides Jamie's over to him. "Anythin' else I can get ya, Mr. McCrimmon?"
bonnypiperlad: (shocked)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-21 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Aye, well," Jamie says, leaning back and putting his hands behind his head for a moment. "I suppose I wouldna mind a wee bite to eat, either." He's not really serious, but is curious to see how she would react.

Just to be on the safe side, though, he removes one of his hands so he can take his mug. He figures taking a manly-sized swig would be appropriate and does so...

Only to realize that that's not the ale. He coughs a little as he abruptly sits forward in his seat, then blinks rapidly to prevent his eyes from tearing up. He's not really successful.

"Ah...I forgot to ask ye to get me ale, didna I?"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
There are a couple aspects of this entire exchange that prove Jamie's a decently lucky fellow this evening. Firstly, Kaylee is a very happy drunk, and really doesn't mind running around, partially because she gets to greet other people, and partially because it means she gets to make someone happy. Secondly, none of Serenity's crew is currently popped, aside from Inara, which saves Jamie the trouble of being...reprimanded by her crew.

Kaylee is fully ready to go see if she can't find at least a small plate of something from the kitchen, but his question stops her.

"Didn't even think to ask, myself," she replies, slightly disappointed in her own ability to tell the differences between what people seemed to be drinking around here. "I'll get ya a new one, just hold up..."
bonnypiperlad: (facepalm)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-21 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie didn't mean anything by it - he tends to tease his friends from time to time. Especially the girls. It's actually a sign that he does like you. But it's also true he probably wouldn't have dared try if anyone else from Serenity was there - even Inara. He knows that people tend to take that sort of thing the wrong way.

He reaches out a hand to stop Kaylee before she can completely leave. "Och, no, it's fine. I just wasna expecting it to be the cactus juice." Which, to be honest, is pretty good. "Honestly, I'd rather ye not bother on my account."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
The little mechanic is plenty used to teasing from everyone, and she's certainly no stranger to teasing back. Things are just a little bit different when you're inebriated, maybe.

"Ain't hardly a bother for a friend." But even so, she sits back down and wraps her hands carefully around her mug. Slowly, she slides it away from her until she's half stretched across the table, and smiles sideways at Jamie. "Though I wouldn't mind not leavin' from here any time soon." It's a comfortable mumble, nothing more.
bonnypiperlad: (puzzled)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-03-21 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, then, it's settled. Ye are staying put." Apparently she is, too. Jamie chuckles a little and tilts his head sideways to take a look at Kaylee. "Are ye actually comfortable like that?"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds good to me." All full of laziness, she shakes her head. "Not the most comfortable place, but it's better'n the floor!"
