CEEEEEELEBRATE GOOD TIMES~

Several buildings in the City had been completely destroyed during Aang's rampage, but a few had survived relatively unscathed. It had only taken Kang two days to repair the Drunken Dragon; he'd done so by himself, not even waiting for his leg to heal up a bit first.

Usually, he didn't bother lighting any candles or using the fireplace in the tavern unless it was a period when the artificial sun had set. He could see perfectly fine in the dim light. For the celebration, though, he'd thrown the windows open wide, scrounged up every candle he could find, and started up a fire, knowing that human vision wasn't as good as his own. The tables surrounding the stage had been cleaned, as well as the tankards, and the door was propped open. The bozak had even wrestled two of the 60-gallon barrels from the back room into a corner of the main room for easier access, one of cactus juice and one of ale. If more was needed, he was sure he could get someone to help bring out another.

Tess had commandeered the kitchen to make her food, bringing in her own equipment. Kang had been slightly afraid at first that she was going to burn the place down, but nothing had happened yet. She seemed to know what she was doing, even if she'd given him a few scares.

The sunlight glistened on the old sword blade teeth and dinnerplate eyes of the comical-looking wooden dragon grinning above the entrance. Come in, relax, have a drink and a bite to eat!

[OOC note: Both drinks are alcoholic, and the cactus juice has twice the kick of the ale. :D;]

"Terraforming technology existed in my universe, but it was still quite rudimentary. A planet needed to be already suitable for human habitation for colonists to live there." He glanced at Kaylee, tilting his head slightly. "I am not. My home planet was called Vulcan, although my mother was from Earth, and I spent several years there."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't always work for some planets," Kaylee admitted, "but for most it seems to go alright. Granted, the planets that're more suited for life are the ones that turn out a bit nicer, and there's still a lot of transportin' to be done out to the Border planets, but it's progress nonetheless." Vulcan? She couldn't say she'd ever heard of it, even in passing. "So you're...half from Vulcan, then?" Vulcanian? Vulcanese? "Well, you've got more years on Earth than me, in any case. Must be pretty neat, to have seen both."

"I am half-Vulcan, half-Human," Spock affirmed. "Though, being raised primarily on Vulcan, I am not entirely versed in human cultural norms."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I ain't entirely sure how many of our own customs were from Earth-That-Wa...Earth, but if you ever need help in figurin' the culture, I bet I could help a bit."

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Thus far, I have discerned no notable differences in your culturally-specific actions." He paused a beat. "I thank you for your offer."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kaylee simply shrugged. She didn't think much would be different, given that she had been interacting with people from 500 years before her time with no problem. Never hurt to check, though. "Not a problem. And if you need help with anythin'--gettin' settled with work 'n such--I'd be happy to help there, too."

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Spock inclined his head. "I may request your aid. Aboard this ship, I know only Captain Kirk from my universe of origin, and he is understandably busy." Okay, that wasn't the entire truth, but Spock wasn't about to go telling relative strangers all about temporal paradoxes before he'd even sat down with Jim to explain things.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Friends with the Cap'n, then?" It was a start for him, at least. A big start. "Has Billy given you anyplace to start for engineerin' yet, or are you still up in the air on it?"

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I was his first officer aboard the Enterprise," Spock explained. Well, the other Jim's first officer. Still, it made little difference in this situation. "I have yet to meet with Mr Cranston in person, though he mentioned that the computing department has been lacking."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
"It's good you already know somebody here, then. Helps a lot. Only got one of my crew members here myself, but I don't know what I'd do without 'Nara." Babbling, right. "You sound like you'd be pretty well suited for it, and if Billy's wantin' to put you there it means he's got enough trust in your abilities for it."

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"As yet, I have not done anything to warrant Mr. Cranston's trust, though I intend to perform any tasks assigned to me to the utmost of my abilities." Spock was not given to false modesty, but he was cognizant of the fact that he would be required to earn any trust or respect given to him on this ship. He was starting from scratch, and while Captain Kirk's name might get him a leg up, it wouldn't help if he was found wanting.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Long as you're doin' your best." Everyone around here did, really. It was nice to see a ship so full of people who were willing to at least try to help. "That's why there're others about, too. Fill in the things you can't, and you fill in the things they can't. Teamwork."

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Cooperation is essential in the smooth operation of any ship," Spock agreed. "I confess I find the lack of discipline amongst this crew somewhat disconcerting, but I will acclimate myself to it in time."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
"That it is," Kaylee agreed, though at his comment about discipline she couldn't help but giggle (blame it on the drinks). "Maybe not so disciplined, but enough that we get by 'n still stay our own person."

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Her giggling was highly illogical, but Spock overlooked it. "Individuality is commendable, though it appears as though some members of the crew have approached insubordination in the wake of the battle. Such actions hinder rebuilding efforts."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Everybody's just a bit tense 'n cranky right now," she promised. "It'll get better once things settle a bit and people have time to readjust. Not everybody fixes themselves at the same rate, after all."

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Spock nodded in concession. "Humans in particular have many and varied reactions to traumatic events."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly." At least he understood that much. "Never know what you're gonna get, especially when somethin's messin' with minds the way the Nightmare King was." She paused and blinked, head tilted to the side. "Vulcans only got one reaction, then?"

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Vulcans attempt to react logically," Spock explained. "It is a fundamental tenet of Vulcan culture."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Kaylee raised an eyebrow. "C'mon, you can't be logical for everythin', can you? There's so much of life that ain't based at all on logic. Sometimes you just gotta go with gut feelin's, even if nothin' else makes sense."

[identity profile] nerve-pincher.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Spock paused a moment, considering his next words. "Recent experience has led me to the conclusion that 'gut feeling' is not necessarily incompatible with logic and rationality. It is one tool to be used in the decision-making process."
