Meet N' Greet!

It's big meeting time! Word of mouth gets everyone gathered in the Obs Deck--everyone. New, old, the entire crew is there and that makes it clear that there's close to a hundred of them, if not more.

When they've all arrived, a blue bubble pops up around them, courtesy of Blue Beetle, to block them all from Stacy's sensors. Most of the new people were given the basic rundown by Cybil or Chief when they were first released. Some of them have already joined a discussion with a the Commanding Officers and department heads. Some have had a chance to explore a bit. Some were only just recently released.

"Look," the Doctor says, sighing and rubbing his face tiredly, "I'm sorry I'm whining in front of the kiddies. I'm tired of my actions being misunderstood. I will go take a nap, and later I will talk to Captain Picard privately. I have no complaints against a leader who actually listens to people, and my concerns will doubtless be better understood that way anyway."

Fitz looks up and puts a hand on the Doctor's arm, smiling hesitantly before stepping into the conversation as well.

"Look, I do agree with the blue blokes-- We've got to work together, and the other Sunday morning cartoon sh*%, because we're the only chance we've got. So maybe a vote, or something? You yanks love the democratic process, right?"

"I don't have any objections to a vote at this time and I'm more then willing to work out the kinks in the system as we go along."

"At this point I think the most productive thing we can do is have a vote. If we can fit in more arguing after that, fine. Go for it. Hell, if you want to keep arguing after Jaime puts the bubble down just do it without compromising us to the damn ship."

"My opinion hasn't changed. I'll stand down as Commander in favor of Captain Kirk, and keep my position as Chief of Security. Yay or nay?"

"A vote amongst those present is certainly a wise idea. I'll stand by any group decision."

Worf just nods again.

"Captain Picard and Captain Kirk have my support."

"I say nay." Javert says, delurking from the edges of the group. "It's not a personal matter; but I cannot vote in favour of someone I have never even spoken to." Despite not having spoken to many people on board. Still, he has a favourable first impression of Chief, more than he knows about Kirk.

"But I will put my vote behind Captain Picard." He's contrary like that.

"Whoopee to both!" the Doctor says brightly. Anyone who hasn't been paying very, very close attention might be confused.

Picard does seem sensible enough, and while 'Leven hasn't gotten quite a handle on Kirk's personality yet, well, as much as he trusts Chief, no one should have two authoritative positions when there's this many candidates.

"Well, I can solve one of the problems rather quickly," Lyta speaks up. "It's obvious a lot of you are concerned about me being in the position that Cybil selected me for so I will resign. I'm obviously not someone the people here are comfortable listening to anyway."

She turns her eyes to Jaime, she can glare, too. "And I am sick and tired of having my concerns for my own safety with regard to the reckless behavior of certain members of this crew dismissed as unfounded, misguided, and irrational. If it weren't for their own resourcefulness, seven men in this crew would have been food for giant cockroaches because of that recklessness. Sam Winchester could have died in medbay because someone recklessly jumped to conclusions and attacked the person trying to help him. Just because people didn't die then doesn't give them a free pass. It doesn't make it okay. And it sure as hell doesn't mean they get to do it again. I don't care how many explanations or excuses they have to justify it. Nothing gives them that right.

"You want to call that a vendetta? You want to call that bull s#!%? Fine! But last I heard you all were supposed to be superheroes. And maybe my understanding of what a 'superhero' is supposed to be is wrong, but from what I understand superheroes are supposed to protect people from danger and save lives. NOT mow half of them down just so they can show off how big, bad, and powerful they are. And they don't jump to conclusions and start fights that put other people's lives in jeopardy. But maybe you're using a different definition than I am."

Lyta then turns and storms over to the edge of the bubble, ready to leave along with Sawyer and, presumably, Spider-Man. As she waited, a thought that had been spinning around in her head unsaid for some time came to the forefront. She didn't know how accurate it was but it had been something she'd been meaning to bring to Cybil's attention when she'd had the chance. Unfortunately, she hadn't had a chance as of late. So now seemed like the most opportune time.

"Oh, and by the way, we're probably wasting our time with this bubble. I can't block Stacy from scanning anyone when we're not all together. And if she's as telepathic as we think she is, unless all of you have suddenly become immune to telepathy my guess is there's nothing keeping her from just ripping everything out of your heads later when you're sleeping. Now, I'd like to leave, please."

Re: Soooo, this obviously means the command stuff is the LAST thing discussed...

[identity profile] asluciferfell.livejournal.com 2009-05-05 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"As someone very, very intimately aquainted with personal vendettas, I must say that's less of a vendetta and more of simple idiocy. Mistakes are regrettable, and measures should be taken against them, especially those stemming from a lack of information on the part of those committing an offense. But at this point I am afraid it moves beyond beating a dead horse into determining that simple mistakes should never be forgiven; I may be harsh, madame, but even I know that to take every mistake a recruit makes as a serious offense, and judge of character, leaves you with one less recruit and one additional prisoner. Which, as far as I've observed, is not a popular attitude on this..thing.

"As for the validity of our 'sheilding', whether it is truly real or not, I believe most here have proved themselves empty-headed enough that 'Stacy' digging through the average brain here does not worry me unduly."

"When it puts people's lives in danger it is more than just a simple mistake, sir," Lyta counters.

"Now, Jaime, please lower the shield so I may leave."

Kirk frowns after Lyta, brow furrowing, "Miss? I know you're frustrated, but being so hostile isn't the answer. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone has trouble. All of us had to and will continue to learn, to grow, and to explore the lives we live; yelling at people isn't likely to make them learn. If you honestly want them to succeed to do well, you have to teach, not heckle. And while I may agree with you to some degree, painting all of the superheros... the metahumans, with one broad brush doesn't do anything positive, for any of us. They're only human, just like rest of us. Even if they have powers, they will still make mistakes and learn from them. They're not automatically infallible - no offense intended Mr. Reyes."

He takes a breath and continues, "Yes, their mistakes may have more drastic consequences - but so would my own, so would Picard's. The crew are entrusting us with their lives, they're relying on us to steer them straight through strange waters. The fact of the matter is, when you have to make life or death decisions, sometimes there is no correct choice."

He strokes his chin again, shifting gears, "...as for the bubble... well, until we discover otherwise, I'd rather have it then nothing at all."

"From what I understand, Ms. Alexander, the last time someone went off and decided not to work with the crew...they died. You risk the same if you walk off on your own and aren't part of the plan we collectively decide. For that reason...Jamie, I would recommend not doing so unless Cybil gives the OK. Whether she fears us or whether her feelings are just hurt because no one's listening to her...she's still a part of the crew until Cybil says otherwise."

Lyta turned around slowly, her arms were crossed over her chest which was typical when she became defensive or annoyed. "Are we holding people hostage now?" she asked flatly.

"Ms. Alexander, you've gone in the span of 15 minutes from being on the command staff to storming off like a petulant 5 year old. Only you're a petulant 5 year old with mental abilities who's quite obviously offended and hurt and is taking her ball and going home. How do you expect people to take that."

She looks to Cybil. "You're still in charge at the moment, your call."

"I don't give a damn how they take it," she answers defiantly. "With the exception of Nathan, Ax, Cybil, the Chief, and maybe Kon, I trust this ship more than I trust any of you right now."

"Lady?" Kon steps forward. "I've heard someone carry on before about how awful someone else was, about how violent and scary they were. They took it so far that they were freaking nuts, convinced everyone was scary and violent--and then they turned out worse than anyone."

He shakes his head. "When I told you about my future that I heard about from people from my world, about the fact that I might--" He swallows. "--that I might probably die? You suggested cloning me and mindwiping the clone to implant my consciousness in it, which is like... um, kinda awful, if you want to get all ethical about it. You may trust me, and I'm glad, because you can. You can trust a lot of us."

Superboy crosses his arms.

"But with all the fuss you're kicking up about people making pretty reasonable mistakes, when you suggested that? I sure as hell don't trust you."

That is all she needs to hear.

"BB, let anyone else out who wants out. They can express any concerns to myself and anyone else in charge later."

Vorp. A hole opens in the bubble.

Anyone who doesn't want to just talk...civil-like, and stay focused, get your butts out of his bubble.

"This is ridiculous. All of you." He gives Jaime a forgiving look—he doesn't count, apparently.

"I would not call the fact that a number of those here with exceptional powers seem to be rather careless with them anything less than a serious concern. People could die! because of some idiot's overreaction to an insult or a prank or mistaken identity, for Christ's sake!"

By now he's pacing and punctuating his words with broad gestures.

"To ignore that is only begging for trouble. Now, that isn't to say that the only alternative is some kind of imprisonment—" —he gestures vaguely in Lyta's direction, even if she's leaving— "—but something should be done, unless you would like to personally police every superhuman on this ship, Kal-El, and events as have already passed have shown that even your prodigious judgement is not infallible."

"And—girl!" He points sharply in Cassie's direction, nearly invading her personal space. "If you're going to solve personal disputes with violence, at least do it where no one else can interrupt."

...was that last part meant to be a joke? It may well have been, to judge by the little quirk in his expression...

"Get out of my face." Cassie snapped.

It was like the guy wanted to get punched.

"I'm sorry, O.K.? Stop trying to piss me off."

Worf pipes up. Again.

"I believe our current subject was Captains Picard and Kirk. Perhaps we can return to it and discuss these other matters in the near future and at a more convenient time?"

Kate placed a hand on Cassie's shoulder.

"Hey, careful with that guy. It'll be ok."

She then added, "I liked Cybil as our leader. I'm all right if Picard takes command. Got a good head on his shoulders." Small smirk at that.
