PARTY ON!

Hisk is throwing a party in the Drunken Dragon.

She just hasn't told Kang about it.

It's a general purpose party for the election, for winners and losers (and voters!) alike. EVERYONE is invited! There's beer and real food for all, what more could you ask for?

(OOC: If your character wants to help waiting on people/cooking/what have you, go for it. :D And this is a mingle post so feel free to thread about!)

"Or it will consume the entire tavern?" Oh, he loves to joke when it's appropriate.

Kang's suggestion causes him to frown uncertainly though. "It's an interesting idea, and perhaps I might do it someday, but I really don't think I should tonight. I'm not inclined to enjoy losing control, and..."

He glances worriedly around the room for signs of any of the higher-ups on Command, especially Captain Kennedy. "I don't know my alcohol tolerance level, I'm underage by the laws of my former country, and to do so would be a display of irresponsibility on my part. It's different for seasoned drinkers who know how to keep themselves safe, but for me it would be reckless and likely to get me fired."

"Not all of them, and other races can be just as bad," Kang pointed out, quirking an eyebrow ridge in amusement. "It's always easier to see the faults in others."

"One or two drinks isn't going to affect you that badly," Kang pointed out. "I think it's about time you learned your tolerance. Besides that, this is not the United States, it's no secret that I don't ask for age here, you're not on the clock, and there are people, myself included, that will make sure that you don't do anything stupid."

He pushed his nearly full tankard over to Billy. "Trust me. Leon won't fire you for breaking a non-existent law."

"I don't believe in superstitchon. But-" She took a deep breath. "I didn't get drunk to talk about this. Enjoying yourself?"

That...well, it lowered his resistance a little. It still felt wrong, though.

One more nervous look around at Kang and the party crew. The sight of them somehow became juxtaposed with an inward memory of his former world and the friends there. Should he disappoint them? Disappoint Kang? "All right. I suppose I should try it once to judge it fairly."

Kang wouldn't let anything bad happen to him on the outside, right? He lifted the tankard, seeing an obscured reflection of himself for a moment. The same self who would have proudly proclaimed a year ago that he didn't need alcohol. That he wouldn't ruin lives that way. Yes, responsible adults drank, but his mind didn't need interference. Had he changed to the point that he did want to?

With a heavy sigh, he set it down. "I'm sorry, but I can't do it. I'll have to find another way to open myself to the possibilities of entertainment that are available here."

Kang nodded. "That too. I don't want to see you get hurt or killed when it could have easily been avoided. You do have the option of private lessons, too."

Jonas did recognize that look. Perhaps he ought to contact Kate or Billy to come take Cassie off his hands before one of them did something that they would regret.

"[Thank you,]" he said slowly. "[You are pretty great yourself.]"

Subject change, subject change...

"[What do you think of your cider?]"

Kate shrugged and sipped her drink. Looked like a spritzer type of drink. Likely a mojito.

"I was. How are you?"

She took a sip. "Great. Thanks for making it. You're so good to me, even when I've been so bad to you."

"Better after I had a drink." She took a big gulp of her second drink.

"Cassie... that's not really an answer."
staturity: (soft smile)

"Yeah, it is. I'm fine. Really." She smiled. "Super fine."

"Oh, aye. That. I can see where that might be a wee bit strange, but it's good that people can see past what ye look like, isn't it?" He adds matter-of-factly, "I'd even say you're a pretty likable guy...when you're not running Weapons Training."

Speaking of which - if Kang's arm is better, Jamie thinks it's very likely that the training'll be resuming. Eying the Draconian's arm again, he takes a drink from his tankard before stating, "I suppose that means that it's going to be starting up again soon, then."

He's not entirely sure that he's thrilled with the prospect, but at the same time he can see where it's needed. He could do without the 'feeling like a complete wreck' part afterward that he knows will be coming, though.

Kaylee looks up at him, only half-focusing on his face. "Private might be better. Don't gotta worry 'bout makin' so much of a fool of myself that way."
governorkang: (This is fun / Go fish!)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-08-01 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
"You just let me or Ronon know," Kang patted her shoulder affectionately and took a drink from his tankard.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
"'Wee Jimmy' don't sound like somethin' that'd suit you so much now," Kaylee mumbles. "Sounds like somethin' Jayne might name one of his guns..."

She's in a bit of a mood about a lot of things. Dean and Simon complications, for one (which is probably yet another reason she'll be grateful for Jamie later). The debate on whether or not she should learn to fight. Problems in Engineering. The ship is far too complicated at this point for Kaylee's liking, honestly. Hence, round four and a long night of sleep ahead of her.

At the mention of 'Hamish,' however, she cracks a smile. "Hamish? What would anybody be thinkin', namin' their kid--

"That's awful."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Will do." She frowns down into her bottle a moment, before bringing it up for another swig. "Which one of ya would you suggest workin' with?"
bonnypiperlad: (So...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-08-01 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Name his guns?" Jamie's eyebrows arch into his bangs for a moment. They had that whole conversation about Jayne before, but naming the guns hadn't come up. He thinks, anyway. There's a little muzziness there due to what are possibly obvious reasons at the moment. "Do I even want to know?"

Ah, that's better. Kaylee and smiles go together so well that it's worrisome for Jamie to see her without one, and he's inwardly just a little bit pleased that he was able to coax one out of her when she's fretting.

"Ah, well, ye see, Hamish is a good Scottish name. I've a cousin named Hamish...er, well, had. But it's no name for a lassie to be having."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Think it's 'cause he relates better to them than he does people, would be my guess." She's smirking about it, though, which means it's probably true, and more than likely a decent joke amongst the crew.

"It's a popular name, then?"

While it's not something she would normally zone in on, Kaylee's having a difficult time thinking about much else besides Jamie's accent and how he calls her 'lassie.' She gives it some thought (all of a second's worth) before she plops her hand down on his arm, looks him straight in the eye, and lets out a half giggled, "You talk perdy, y'know..."
governorkang: (Neutral)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-08-01 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think it really matters," Kang paused, thinking. "I would say if you were more worried about intimidation, I'd be better, but you know me, so it wouldn't work as well."
bonnypiperlad: (smile)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-08-01 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Jamie files the new knowledge about Jayne away in some corner of his mind where he's formed his impressions about Kaylee's shipmates. Maybe it'll come up at some point, if Jayne ever wakes up. Or maybe not. There's better things to think about now, like the conversation with the bonny lassie he's currently having.

"Not as popular as James, but there were enough of them back in my day. There was Cousin Hamish, and Old Hamish, and Hamish the miller..."

He trails off as Kaylee's hand finds its way onto his arm, finding that to be nicely distracting. Without really thinking about it, he moves his free hand over and gently rests it on top of hers. "Aye? Ye really think so?"

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can only hope he did, but it is Simon we're talkin' 'bout." He wasn't exactly the quickest on relationships with people, unless he was looking at their insides.

Go figure.

Kaylee smiles back at Billy, not without a slightly exasperated sigh and nod of the head. "S'pose that's part of what makes relationships so interestin'. It'd be pretty borin' if we knew exactly what was goin' through everybody's mind."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
He's got a point on both. Kaylee sighs again, leaning back in her chair. "I'll think on it, then, and let ya know either way."

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-08-01 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Jayne'll wake up someday, if Kaylee's got any say in the matter. The whole gorram crew will, or there'll be hell of some kind to pay. Just like Jamie's friends will wake up, because Kaylee won't ever forgive Stacy if she's doomed Jamie to be here without.

"Bit of an odd name to be popular, in any case, but maybe that's just Space talkin' to me. 'M more use to names like Radiant and men named Jayne than I am Hamish."

The plus and/or downside of liquor, especially of the Whatever brand, is that you tend to not think so much about what's right and wrong, and more along the lines of what feels nice. Jamie's arm, for example, feels nice with her hand, which means it might feel nice with her head, too.

Rather ungracefully, Kaylee plops her head onto Jamie's shoulder. "Mmhm. I really do think so."
morphitudinous: (I miss him also)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-08-01 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's true. I think many of us without the ability to read thoughts have wondered what it would be like to be able to do so, but I've spoken to some who have the ability. It's not as enticing as it sounds."

Billy nods slightly. "You'd get a headache after a while, and we have the capacity to lie for a reason."

Not that it wasn't frustrating, he agrees. So Kaylee gets a quick sympathetic shoulder squeeze.
