Shore Leave!

Suddenly, the usual relative peace of the ship is disrupted by a rather loud announcement from Stacy.

||Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention. All personnel please report to the Observation Deck. Attention, Attention, all personnel...||

It's entirely likely that she won't stop repeating the announcement until, well, everyone reports to Obs Deck. The mouth in the huge statue on the wall opens, revealing a screen. On it, the dossier for the mission flickers into display, understandable to every person there. Smaller copies of the dossier appear in holographic form in front of everyone.

The planet's stats, right next to a rotating picture of it, blue with thousands of small islands just barely visible, are as follows:

Planet Designation: Zokez II
Status: Terrestrial, H-class.
Non-sentient life: Extensive flora and fauna.
Semi-Sentient Life: Yes.
Sentient Life: Various species of intelligent life, including Homo Sapiens.
Water: 96% of the planet's surface.

Climate: Similar to Earth's tropical island regions. [Click here for cultural equivalents for non-Earth cultures.]
Landscape: All land is in the form of tropical islands. A large portion of this land is highly developed for commercial use by resorts and other entertainment industries.
Air: Normoxic concentration: 28% oxygen, 62% nitrogen, 5% xenon, 5% trace gases, such as hydrogen, krypton, and argon.

Air Pressure: 14.543 pounds per square inch.
Sky: Blue with silver-white clouds.
Sun: A class F2V, yellow star.

Warnings: Deep water areas can be hazardous to those with limited skill in swimming.

Mission: None. Shore leave is now initiated.

...Waitaminute. That's no mission.

It's a goddamn vacation.

"My suit's not a weapon," he says. "Guns, yes. Suit, no."

And as long as he has his suit, he's probably good. It's not ideal, but he can deal.

Cue Komali finding Samus and Chief making suitfaces at each other. He's running in various versions of circles with his stubby little half-wings flapping everywhere. It doesn't take long for him to grab Samus' hand and throw his admittedly negligible weight into it.

"BEACH! BEACH! BEACH! BEACH! WE'RE GONNA SEE THE OCEAN AGAIN!" He could possibly be more excited, but that would, in fact, involve a trip to med bay for some sedatives, "DID YOU SEE THE PART ABOUT THE WATER, IT'S JUST LIKE HOME LET'S GO!"

Samus grabs his hand and looks down at him. She may or may not be slightly smiling underneath her helmet (not that anyone could see that, so her reputation will stay intact).

"I did see it," she confirms, "And I can see you're quite excited about it."

Obvious Samus is obvious.

The Chief watches Komali, the headtilt he was giving the "mission" parameters shifts focus and becomes a little more pronounced.

"You lived by the ocean?" he asks.

He does have some fond beach memories of his own, particularly the time he and the other young Spartans ditched an exercise entirely to go hang out on an island for a few days. Others, a good deal bloodier and not so fond.

"Everybody lives by the ocean," duh Chief, "It's the Great Sea, isn't it? Everyplace is an island. Where else are they gonna live?"

But it's not over yet. Now you've gotten him started. Komali plants his hand on his hips, "My island's the best island. We've got a volcano and a dragon-god and the best winds."

Samus tosses a look at Chief. Somehow, through her faceplate, she manages to say 'I hope you're ready to hear the long ramblings of a young boy who loved his island dearly.'

Not that she's making any effort to stop Komali. It's a little cute, she has to admit.

"I've never lived on an island," he answers. "We had continents."

The Chief catches Samus' glance, but seems unrattled. They have a few minutes to kill before Stacy starts up again, it can't hurt.

"Islands are the best, except that if you're not careful, the cowbirds build on them, and they'll eat all your food," Komali explained, gesturing wildly to emphasize the size and ferocious nature of the 'cowbird' Kargarocs,
Quill likes 'em though because they have golden tailfeathers and he collects 'em, but they're not special or anything. We live inside the volcano! There's caves an' stuff, but it's warm in there, so it's alright. It never explodes."
