'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Spike drops his cigarette in surprise when he sees her. He can't stop staring. What the hell was he thinking, not rushing to find her the second he was solid and not bound to LA? Everything he'd told himself about letting her live her life, her being better off without him, ruining his dramatic death scene... they seemed really, really stupid.

"Buffy," he says quietly. He rushes forward and hugs her tightly.

Buffy lets Spike wrap his arms around her - she lets herself melt into that hug, and she hugs him back just as fiercely.

There was so much there between Spike and Buffy. Years of enmity, years of antagonism, years of friendship and...more.

Buffy had never loved Spike. Not the way she had Angel. She had tried - god knows she had tried - and she cared for him a great deal. But they both had known that it wasn't love, even if it was something astonishingly close.

None of that mattered right now, though.

She'd heard he was back, but there was so much else going on, with the Slayer lineage, with the Council, with Dawn, that to go and seek him out would have been impossible.

And to find him here of all places...

It's funny how it's always him that makes her feel something real.

Spike closes his eyes and just enjoys the moment for a second. Holding Buffy, surrounded by her smell, it's like nothing else.

He knows she doesn't love him. Not the way he loves her. But that doesn't really matter. She's here, she's alive, and that's enough.

He pulls away from her a little, grinning. "I've missed you so much, love."

[identity profile] i-died-twice.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The grin's infectious, because it's spreading across her face too.

"I've missed you too."

That much, at least, is the truth. She has.

"I just--seeing you here of all places." He shook his head. "Do you know what all this is about? I mean, I heard all the bits about being champions and fighting bugs, and... did you say meatship?"

[identity profile] i-died-twice.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Vaguely," Buffy replied. "Xander - he's the only one of us here too besides us three - he's been here longer. He's all Knowledge Boy and Architect Man," she added. "To get down to the threads that make this heinous outfit; our world went kersplodey and everyone here's like the final survivors of their world." And Buffy hoped that the others were asleep in one of the pods.

"Yeah. Meatship. She's alive. And inedible, I think."

"...what? Wait." Spike gave her a worried look. "You're telling me that you and me, Giles and Xander... we're all that's left? No Dawn, no Willow, no Angel, no Fred? Nothing but us? I mean, that's not possible! I would have noticed something."

[identity profile] i-died-twice.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"None of us noticed anything," Buffy replied. "Unless you did?" This she asked Giles directly. The look on her face said everything. You're the Watcher. Knowledge Man. Know something. Please.

"The best we can hope for is that they're in the pods and that they'll sploosh out at some point." She paused then. "Who's Fred?"

Giles was relieved when Buffy found her way over to himself and the vampire. He hugged Buffy after she finished with Spike. He would probably never approve of whatever it was slayer and vampire had with each other, but he'd at least come to an acceptance of it over the years.

He listened intently to the discussion about their current situation.

"A living, sentient craft? I really wish I had my books and research materials" he said. "This is rather remarkable...I'm certain no one from our reality has ever experienced this."

The uncertainty, the lack of insight he had right now was definitely on his face. He hated being relatively blind and unsure of what was going on.

"No, not that I can recall. My last memories are of riding that schoolbus out of the collapsing city." he said.

"Yes, that's my point of view as well...My vision was a bit blurry until I retrieved my glasses, but I could discern that there were a great many...what do you call them? Pods? There were many of them still in that cavern, or whatever it is. Hopefully they are in there." He hated to think of the alternative, especially with Dawn and Willow. He knew that Angel's death would hurt Buffy, though, and that did make him wish that the vampire was there, somewhere, in the pods, despite their history of tension.

"I believe she was one of Angel's people" he replied when Buffy asked about Fred. "I don't know very much, but I recall Willow speaking of a phone call from her after she made that trip to Los Angeles to assist them."

[identity profile] i-died-twice.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh right," Buffy replied. "Science girl. Really smart. Original flavored Willow-type, I think," Buffy said off-handedly. Angel had mentioned her once or twice when they'd spoken earlier. "The Sensoriums," she said suddenly, looking at Giles. "It's these...rooms. They go all Jem and the Holograms on you and make whatever you want around you. I sometimes turn it into a graveyard to hunt vampires," she added. "Umm. Evil, vampires." Like Drusilla. "I think that we could maybe have it make the library for us. Or the Magic Box. Or something. So we could research. And learn. And stuff." She wasn't so good with the explainy right now. "But they have to be. In there. I know they are. I mean, you and Spike were. So...yes. Willow, Dawn, Faith, Angel, Andrew. They're in there. They have to be." And then she hugged Giles again because this was the man who, for better or worse, had been a father figure in her life for the last so many years, and had grown into a very trusted friend.

Spike nodded. "She is. Very sweet girl. I hope she's not gone. She's the only one in that sodding corporation worth much."

He glanced at Giles. "Collapsing Sunnydale? That was a while ago for me. I came back a ghost, haunted Wolfram and Hart for a while, got solid, and just stayed in LA. Last I remembered, I was arguing with tall, dark, and completely incapable of admitting he's wrong." He frowned for a second and looked back at Buffy. "Who'd win in a fight between cavemen and astronauts?"

Not that it mattered now, if Angel was gone.

[identity profile] tweedywatcher.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
In the midst of all the excitement, Giles had briefly forgotten about Spike's death. His mind was in a bit of disarray still, but Spike's comments brought it right back.

"I'd forgotten that...I do recall Buffy saying you had sacrificed yourself. Remarkable that you were resurrected as it were." said Giles.

"Interesting. It's difficult to wrap my mind around such technology, but it will be extremely helpful."

Something occurred to Giles. "I just hope that there aren't people in there whom we'd regret meeting again." He shivered at finding out that old enemies had been brought here...Drusilla...Glory...the Master...It would be a disaster if they were there.

"For example, if I'm to be trapped aboard this craft with Ethan Rayne, I may lose my sanity." he said. "And of course there are those who would be far worse. I'd hate for Glory or the First to arrive here."

[identity profile] i-died-twice.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not so keen on the First either, but I'm pretty sure Stacy likes her people all corporeal-y," Buffy replies. "And we fought Glory once. We can do it again. Especially now that I have my shiny toy," she remarked, unsheathing the scythe and showing it do Giles and Spike. "I do love this so much." Then she added, "Cavemen. They might have died off, but I'm pretty sure they were tough. And I'm talking from experience. Remember the beer that turned me into CaveBuffy?"

"See? Thank you. I agree. Angel's just wrong." He nods, satisfied, then looks more serious. "We can't know who else'll show up, good or bad. But Buffy's right. We can take 'em."

[identity profile] tweedywatcher.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Unfortunately, yes. That was a rather difficult to forget experience" Giles replied.

He was at the least buoyed by the confidence he saw. "Yes, we quite likely could. I wonder, though, if this craft is indeed sentient, how it would take battles going on within it." It was still difficult for him to comprehend the idea of a living machine this vast and complex.
