'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"So did I," she replied ruefully. She extended a hand, a smile starting to spread across her face. "Universe had other plans, apparently. It's good to see you again."

Trudy gripped Grace's hand firmly and pulled her into a backpatting hug, still grinning. "Good to see you too - you sure we aren't actually dead? Because I was pretty damn close myself before I came out of stasis covered in snot."

Grace returned the hug. She was honestly just as happy to see Trudy as Trudy was to see her. "Well, if we're dead, this is the weirdest afterlife I think I've heard of."

"No kidding," Trudy said, casting a meaningful glance around her. "I've seen more different kinds of aliens in the last five minutes than I have on the last couple of years on Pandora."

She made a vague gesture up toward the ceiling. "And then there's the telepathic ship. God's got some kind of weird sense of humor."

"Tell me about it. I think Norm's around here somewhere too, but I haven't seen him in days."

Which is troubling.

"You wouldn't believe the kind of things I've seen here. They've got a whole hydroponics bay and lab equipment like I've never seen before! It's like I've been playing with kid's stuff my whole life."

Trudy couldn't help but laugh a little. The thought of Grace being out of her depth in any field of science was a cognitive dissonance - Grace was a genius, after all.

"I can't really believe there's anything scientific you haven't figured out already, but if you say so then it must be true. And at least one of us is useful around here - Guess there wouldn't be an active military on a refugee ship, would there?"

Grace laughed, "All of that praise is going to go to my head someday. And yes, even I have limits."

She paused, arching a brow, "...you'd be surprised, actually. Apparently we've also been drafted into some war against the Ohm. There's a security team, which is probably right up your alley. As it is, the whole situation seems shot to Hell on a daily basis. They're better than Quaritch, though."

"Well that's not hard to do," Trudy said with a snort. "One of your Pandoran panther things would be better than Quaritch." She relaxed a little. "It's good to hear that I won't be sitting on my ass doing nothing this whole time. You know how much I like to be useful."

[identity profile] givememysamples.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I think those are friendlier, actually," Grace replied wryly, "And I bet Quaritch could give it a run for its money in terms of table-manners."

Grace nodded, "I do - I also remember how much of a help you were back on Pandora."

"Yeah, well," Trudy said, looking a little embarrassed at the praise. "Couldn't do much else, not and call myself a decent human being. The Jackass certainly wasn't, so one of us had to be." She gave Grace a lopsided little smile. "Otherwise you might think all us jarheads are the same kind of idiot."
