'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

He heard someone say "Kaylee" and he wheeled around, immediately wishing he hadn't.

Simon was staring down the most terrifying creature he'd ever seen, and it was written all over his face. Reflexes kicked in and he stumbled backward in surprise, managing to regain his balance before he full-on toppled over.

If getting his vocal cords to work in the pod chamber was difficult, speaking now was nearly impossible.

"I...yes. I know a Kaylee...I...you are?"

Crap. That Intimidate +11 sucked sometimes. Kang's wings rustled, and he held his hands up to show that he didn't mean any harm, "Name's Kang. I'm a friend of Kaylee's, and I've heard her mention that name before. Mechanic on Serenity, brown hair, always smiling?"

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Well, obviously if the giant dragon dinosaur winged creature thing was holding up his hands, he was perfectly well-meaning. Simon still appeared very apprehensive, having never encountered anyone or anything remotely like Kang, but hearing Kaylee's name was quickly giving him at least a little bit of relief.

Enough to jump start his ability to speak, anyway. "Yes, that's...that's her. You mean she's here?"
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-02 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"She is, somewhere. I don't know about River, though," Kang lowered his hands. "As far as I know, besides you, she's the only other person from Serenity on the ship."

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Somewhere was better than nowhere.

That good news, however, came at the price of realizing that if Kang's word was correct, none of the other crew members were here. It didn't mean he wouldn't stop searching for them, but the information was more than a little disheartening.

"I'm Simon. I am...was...the doctor on Serenity. River is my sister."
governorkang: (This is fun / Go fish!)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-02 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Kang nodded in greeting, "Well met, Simon. I think she may have mentioned you once before as well; she speaks very highly of all of you."

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"She talks about me?" He more-or-less blurted before he could stop himself. Of course she talked about him. Knowing Kaylee, she probably talked about the whole crew, especially if she was the only one of them here.

Besides, there were much more important things for him to be concerned with. "Kaylee is...really something. I'm glad she's all right."
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, was that how it was? Kang caught that, and hid a grin. "She is. She'll be ecstatic to see you." He had a niggling feeling that he'd forgotten something, but it disappeared in a heartbeat. It probably wasn't important.

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Simon probably would have been more embarrassed if he wasn't already varying degrees of confused and terrified.

Obviously that meant it was time to change the subject. "If I could ask...who exactly is in charge here? I think I need some answers. I'm sure you understand."
governorkang: (Sons-of-bitches command face)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-02 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Captain Kirk is currently in command of the ship. There's also Master Chief, a fellow named Elfangor, Red Snout, and a few others. I might be able to answer any questions you have, though," Kang crossed his arms over his chest. "It's a lot to take in."

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Captain Kirk. Master Chief. Elfangor and Red Snout. Right. Simon tried to commit these names to memory under a tumult of other thoughts and concerns.

A lot to take in was an understatment. "No...thank you, I...appreciate it."

Simon paused and furrowed his brow, obviously find it difficult to take in as well. "What exactly did Stacy mean by 'chosen'?"
governorkang: (Well shit / Disgusting)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-02 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"If Stacy and the Daligig are to believed, and I haven't seen any reason we shouldn't yet, an alien race called the Ohm have destroyed our worlds. We were rescued, and we've been tasked with stopping them from destroying any more worlds," Kang growled. "She's tried to rescue those that are close to us as well, but... there's no telling who, or when they'll wake up from the pods."

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If Stacy is to be believed.

For Simon, that was a pretty big if, especially because he had no idea who was trustworthy and who was not. Kang was slowly leaning on the "possibly trustworthy" side, mostly because he seemed more than willing to answer burning questions and he knew that Kaylee was here.

Still, the doctor was reluctant to accept any information if it wasn't coming from someone he knew. Nothing personal against Kang, of course.

He couldn't help but latch on to that small glimmer of hope. "So River...my sister might be here."
governorkang: (Home / Hatchlings are a handful)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-02 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Kang understood the wariness, and he wasn't offended at all. He'd been wary at first himself, but after hearing it from so many sources and seeing what he'd seen, he'd accepted it as a very real possibility.

"She might. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any records anywhere of who's in the pods," his wings rustled. "I wish there were, and I'm sure I'm not the only one."

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
A part of Simon already knew it was all true. There seemed to be no reason for anyone to lie to him because he was slowly learning that everyone was in the same position he was.

"I see." The other part of him didn't want to accept it, and would hold on to the possibility that River was here and awake, he just hadn't found her yet. The thought that they'd been separated was unbearable, and it was just easier to stay in denial.

"Do you know where Kaylee is?"
governorkang: (Neutral)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-03 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure. Somewhere in this room, more than likely; it's hard to spot her in this crowd," Kang peered over people's heads, trying to find the girl. It didn't help that she had one of the most common hair colors for a human.

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if anyone would be able to pick someone out in this throng of people, Simon assumed it would be the very tall Kang.

"I'll keep looking." There didn't seem to be much to do besides that. "Thank you. For your help, I mean."
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-03 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Not a problem," Kang shrugged, smiling. "You're a friend of Kaylee's, and I like the girl."

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Kaylee was honestly hard not to like. Unless you were dead inside and hated really nice people.

Come to think of it, he had no idea how long Kaylee had been here. It was difficult to wrap his mind around, mostly because he'd just seen her aboard Serenity. This whole time-space thing was going to take some getting used to.

"I should find her."
governorkang: (This is fun / Go fish!)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-04-04 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Kaylee just had this thing about her, where she made everyone in a room happier just by being there.

Kang nodded, "I'll make sure to tell her you're here if I find her before you do."

[identity profile] doc-pompous.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd appreciate that."

Simon was feeling a bit relieved already with that knowledge. Finding Kang again would definitely be easy, so if he got really lost, there would always be that.

"Thank you again." He hoped the appreciation was evident in his voice before he made his way back into the crowd.
