'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Something--a ripple in the Force, a familiar tug at his mind--had brought Luke from the hangar, where he'd been working on the X-Wing assigned to him, back to the observation deck. Sometimes, Luke wished he wasn't a bit shorter than average; it was difficult to see over everyone's heads.

But between shoulders and shifting people he spotted a face he knew well. "Kyle Katarn!" he called, smiling and waving to get the other Jedi's attention.

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Now that was a familiar face, and probably one the Kyle was most glad to see. "Luke!" he shouted back as he made his way over to his fellow Jedi. "I am very very glad to see you."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Me too, Master--" Luke paused. This Kyle Katarn looked a lot younger than the man he remembered, the one that had been with the Order through many trials. "Kyle. I'm glad to see you made it here too."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle smiled, but had to wonder to himself when had Luke gotten so old. "This place been getting to you? You look like you've added more than a few grey hairs."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a real long story, Kyle." Luke ran a hand through his graying hair. "It seems like Stacy--that's the ship we're on--can travel to different points in any universe's history. She takes us from different places, different times--there's no pattern, and it's hard to understand. I'm just glad to see a familiar face." He smiled a little. "Doesn't mean you can make jokes about my age, though."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Alright, alright I won't tease you about being an old man. At least that finally make sense of some things. When I came out of those...things I ran into your son. I almost didn't believe him at first, but he wasn't lying." Rubbing the back of his head Kyle continued. "So that whole thing about the Ohm was true?"

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Luke couldn't help it--his brilliant smile was out again, and he was probably broadcasting his happiness in the Force like a star going nova. His son was here, and safe!

But thinking about the Ohm, and what they'd done and what they were still doing and what the crew had to do sobered Luke a little bit. "It's all true," he said, shaking his head. "Kyle--our home is gone, and the only way to get it back is to help the beings who made this ship fight the Ohm."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle crossed his arms, and took a deep breath. His galaxy gone. It was a lot to take in. What about Jan? "So another war against another evil all while we are out-gunned, out-manned, and on the run?"

"Do we know how many of us made it? Did Jan?" He had to know even if the answer wasn't the one he wanted to hear.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Luke shook his head again. "I haven't seen Jan yet, but that doesn't mean she's not still in one of the pods. But as for others who are here..." Luke's eyes went skyward as he listed them off on his fingers. "Wedge, Tycho, Jaina, Jacen, Han, Chewie, Obi-Wan, Mara, Leia, and Anakin Skywalker--my father. And now Ben, and you. There might be more who've just not come out of the pod caverns yet."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
It was nice to know at least it was possible Jan was alright. He still didn't like the odds though. Then again most of Luke's family made it. "I'm glad to hear they all made it. Especially Mara, I'm sure Ben will be glad to see her too."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't seen Mara in a long time," Luke said quietly. "I don't know if she's been put back in the pods, or..." He shook his head. "She's somewhere on the ship still. I'd know if anything happened to her. But when she comes back, I bet she'd be glad to see Ben, too."

Or horrified. Mara had had a hard enough time accepting that she'd ended up marrying him, and Luke had no idea how she'd handle actually meeting her son.

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
"So what's the plan to save those who are left? If this is a war how are we fighting it?" He hoped having a mission or just some planning would keep his mind occupied until he could fully grasp the news he'd just received.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"We've been told that our task will be to go to worlds where the Ohm have influence and somehow stop them from spreading and continuing to destroy universes." Yeah, when it was put that way even Luke realized it sounded weak. "We've got ships and starfighters in the hangar, we have defenses and weaponry provided by Stacy, sometimes our own weapons, too--" he gestured at the lightsaber on his belt "--and the support of the race that built Stacy, the Daligig."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle nodded when Luke mentioned personal weapons. He had his own lightsaber, and blaster on his belt. Thankfully they'd kept those. "So small unit operations then? That puts a point in our favor."

Deep down he had a feeling they were going to need a lot more of an edge than that.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
"We still don't know much, about either the Ohm or the Daligig," Luke continued. "Hopefully, we get told more, so we can start to formulate a better idea of what needs to be done and what kind of resources we've got to work with."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I hope so. Until then I'll just do my best to help out around here." The situation was not looking good. They were safe for the moment that was something. "Do we have somewhere to train? I feel like maybe working out a bit might help me sort all of this out."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"There sure is--the Sensoriums." Luke grinned with more than a hint of boyish glee. "Just wait until you see that thing. There's also the Jedi Temple in the City below, if you'd rather not think up a simulated place, or if the Sensoriums are in use."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"The whole Temple? They took the whole Temple, and didn't bother to steal me some pants too?" He laughed as he asked the question. "You know what I'm just going to stop asking stupid questions now. "Why don't you tell me more about these Sensoriums?"

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hopefully on our next mission off the ship, we can get you and the others some proper clothes. These plantsuits aren't the most flattering things." Luke flushed, thinking of that time that the A.I. on board this ship had caused a situation where he'd dearly wished for more covering, and absently pulled the front of his cloak a little closer around him.

"These Sensoriums are pretty neat. You can create a program that mimics anywhere you want--Rogue Squadron's been using them for training simulations, and they're useful if you want to make the slop that Stacy gives us for food look like... well, food."

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
A training simulator now that he had to see. The news about the food however was not as much of a surprise as he would have wanted. "Should have known that the food would be awful. When isn't it? How hard is the Sensorium to program? I've got a couple of ideas for it already."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not too bad. You pretty much ask for what you want and provide a few details--sometimes you just have to think of things." Luke shrugged; he didn't mind Stacy reading those parts of his mind. "What did you have in mind?"

[identity profile] mercjedi.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Some target practice and some Force training. I don't know how long I've been in that pod, and I want to be sure I'm still sharp." If it could pull things from his mind he might have to see how it did at recreating the Valley of the Jedi. It would be a nice place to meditate and keep his focus. "I'm sure you've probably already made a few along those lines."
