'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Stacy is damaged?" He says, starting to look a little panicked. For Simon, the only thing worse than being involuntarily brought to some kind of sentient ship is being involuntarily brought to a sentient ship that isn't working properly.

"Aye," Jamie replies, a bit gloomily. He doesn't like having to share bad information. Well. Maybe there's a little bit of a pessimist in him that does, but either way it's better that Simon knows what he's in for. And Jamie has a sneaking suspicion Kaylee would try to mask everything under a layer of cheer. "There were pirates who boarded Stacy. They killed the original crew and made alterations to her..." What was that thing called again? Oh, right.

"Her neural net. For a while, she wasna really herself. There was some backup person thing that was her voice." He means backup personality, but Jamie can be a little unclear on words at times. "That's fixed now, but she's still healing. And we're trying to repair her, but it'll take time."

He shrugs briefly. "It could be worse, aye? At least we're no longer being taken to some black market to be sold as slaves."

Oh. Wonderful. This is just getting better and better by the second. Every possibility seemed worse than the last, but at least it makes him appreciate that they are not going to be sold as slaves.

For now, anyway.

"The artificial intelligence?" That's what he figures Jaime is referring to. "But you say she's still being repaired. Is there an engineering crew in charge of that?" If he's going to find Kaylee, that is probably the best place for him to start.

"Well," Jamie says, sounding a bit uncertain, "There's more than one of those artificial intelligence things here. I'm not sure how that works, though. Billy could explain it to ye better."

Which actually ties in nicely with Simon's question. Jamie hastens to add, "Billy Cranston. He's one of the co-heads of Engineering. Allen Gentry's the other."

He's a little confused, however, as to why Simon would want to speak to Engineering. "Wait. Aren't ye a doctor? Kaylee said something..." He breaks off, realizing he's done it again. "Och, I'm sorry. She hasna told me everything about ye, I promise. Just that and your sister's named River."

"Hm?" It takes him a second to realize why that might cause confusion. "I'm a trauma surgeon, yes. But I thought that if I couldn't find Kaylee here, the engineering department would be a good place to look."

Kaylee would be wherever the engine is, after all.

Despite the fact that he finds it a bit odd that everyone seems to know him already, he knows that it's just Kaylee being Kaylee. "It's all right. It's...very much like Kaylee to talk about the crew."

"Oh. Aye, that would make sense." Find the engine, find Kaylee. Jamie may not have known Kaylee all that long, but that's not something that's hard to pick up on with her. "Engineering's not hard to find."

There's an easier way, though, in Jamie's opinion. "Did ye get one of those bitty computers, though? The Omnicoms?" The comm-rings would work as well, but Jamie hasn't bothered trying to figure those out yet. He just makes sure he wears his, just in case. "Ye can leave messages there and other people can leave ye messages back."

They're slightly more complicated than that, but Jamie will go for the simplest explanation whenever possible. Mostly because it's also generally the easiest one for him, personally, to grasp.

Jamie is glad that Simon's not upset, and nods emphatically. "I can't say that I blame her, aye? She's verra fond of all of ye. It's good that she'll have someone she knows here."
