'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Heard the sigh she did. Trudy whipped around pretty fast - she didn't like having people sneak up on her, and there was at least one alien on this ship whose bad side she had already gotten on.

Upon seeing Goliath, she went on guard almost instinctively. He had a good couple of feet on her and those claws looked like they could be dangerous if he wanted to make them. "Looking for someone?" she asked, willing to give him the benefit of the doubt... for now.

He holds his talons open in a gesture of peace. "I apologize. I mistook you for someone else."

He doesn't want to get on her bad side any more than she wants to get on his. He capes his wings and tucks his hands away, so that his silhouette is less intimidating. "I did not mean to startle you. I thought you might be a friend."

Trudy relaxed as soon as he made the effort to make himself nonthreatening, offering him a small smile. "Sorry I'm not your friend," she said. "She look like me?"

Today seemed to be the day for meeting aliens.

"It's the hair." He smiles, refraining from adding that it is very pretty. "I assume you are from an Earth?"

"Originally, but I haven't been back in quite a while. Captain Trudy Chacon," she said, extending her hand. "Lately of Pandora, but I don't think that matters much now."

He takes the offered hand. His grip is careful and firm, and envelopes her smaller hand entirely.

"Pandora?" he repeats. He's only familiar with the myth.

Trudy squeezed his hand firmly in return - not trying to prove anything except for the fact that as far as she was concerned, the could of feet he had on her were nothing she was afraid of.

"A moon about the side of earth in orbit around Polyphemus, gas giant. Full of beautiful bioluminescent jungles and giant six-legged panthers that want to eat you for breakfast." She grinned. "Not to mention the natives." The grin faded as she remembered that Pandora, Polyphemus and Earth were all gone now.

There's more to her that reminds him of Elisa than simply her looks. He releases her hand with approval.

"I am sorry for your loss," he says, as her smile fades. How many times has he said it? And how many times will he say it more? "These natives were friends to you?"

If that is the case, it does not surprise him she is so quick to adjust to the presence of more aliens, even those from her home planet.

"Yeah," Trudy said, a little down. She shoved her hands into the pockets of her plantsuit and shrugged. "Well, not at first - not that they were ever exactly my enemy, but we weren't friends until... my CO did something particularly stupid. And cruel. That was bullshit I wasn't about to be part of." Trudy shook her head. "But then, if Stacy grabbed me, and Grace... and I hear Norm's around here too... maybe she got Jake and Ney'tiri."

She didn't sound like she was holding out for it, though. More like it would be a nice surprise if it were true.

"I am not familiar with this term, CO. But take comfort in the presence of your friends." At least she has them. "I hope the rest of your people arrive soon."

And some of his, while Stacy's at it.

"From what year have you come?"

"Commanding Officer," Trudy said. "I'm military - or was, anyway. Marine Corp."

She made a face at his tone - seemed like a lot of people here were missing comrades. "In my universe it was the year 2154. I take it you come from a lot earlier?"

"Manhattan. 1995." He nods. "I wonder if we are even from the same Earth. I suspect not."

He looks at her curiously - "If I may ask, what did your commanding officer ask of you to which you so objected?"

"Man, gotta ask the tough questions," Trudy said. She hadn't really had enough time to reflect on it - she'd done a lot of bad things in her time with SecOps, and Hometree had just been the last straw. It had been easy before that to put the blinders on and say she was just the pilot, but that... that had made her look at it square in the face.

"Short answer? Genocide. Long answer? My CO wanted the natives to move. They were less than cooperative. He decided to be a jackass and blow them all up. I chose to be less than cooperative. It nearly got my dumb ass killed, but now I'm here, so..." she shrugged.

Her story affects him, though he registers it outwardly only through a pause before responding.

"You should know by now, we were all brought here to fight what you chose not to become." There is a certain amount of approval in his voice. "It will be an honor to fight by your side."

It made Trudy feel a little bit better to air that to someone - besides Grace, and Grace had been there. She smiled. "Thanks. These Ohm sound even less concerned with the thought of sentient life than Quaritch was and I never thought I'd meet someone who was a bigger dick than Quaritch."
