'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

He was starting to catch onto that. "I'm human, yes, but slow down," he interrupted. "I am from 2004, so that might have something to do with it." Space was for Russia, China, America, and eccentric billionaires where he was from.

"Incidentally I'm Dr. Luis Sera, head of the science department on our makeshift little crew," he said.

"Doctor Mordin Solus. 2004? Ah yes. Earth dating system based on death of religious figure. You are from significantly far back in the past based on my knowledge of human dating. Odd. Delusional? Maybe. Unless...no. Ship abducts from across multiple times, not merely places. Extremely unlikely, plausible time travel not yet found. Fascinating." He eyed Luis up and down.

"Scientist? Specialty? Forgive rudeness, but likely that my scientific knowledge exceeds yours. Not your fault of course. Hampered by primitive methods found in past."

Watching Luis' expression change was probably hilarious. He went from neutral to looking very, very cross.

"Whoa, whoa, okay. No on the delusional and no on the primitive," he said, careful with his tone. Good first impressions, good first impressions... "And I am a biologist with an emphasis on microorganisms, parasites and pathogens." He mentally told himself to settle down. He had a point, he wasn't as experienced with all this futuristic garbage as he could be.

But really, you wouldn't go back in time and tell Galileo or Louis Pasteur that he was "hampered by primitive methods."

"Excellent. Good choice. Am a biologist myself, geneticist, xenoscientist. Also medical doctor." He's taking all of this in stride pretty well. He hasn't heard about the universe being dead yet, though. Back to business.

"I have been rescued? From what?"

Immediately put back at ease again, Luis looked satisfied by that response. And the fact he was a geneticist. Recruitment onto Team Science looking good. "Not a medical doctor myself, but I know my way around, let's say," he said with a sly little smile.

He took a drag on his beloved cigarette and shrugged. "Well, the Ohm are making their way around destroying universes, so... presumably, that," he said. "Might be a way to get them back but nobody knows for sure." He was surprisingly mellow about the idea. Being dead tended to do that to you.

Mordin blinked, tilted his head to one side.

"Our universes....destroyed?" How anticlimactic it seemed, after all of that work, only to awaken here and find that it had been for nothing. He sucked in a deep breath. His nephew, his sister. His few friends. His home. All of it just gone, in the blink of an eye, before he knew it had happened.

"Unfortunate." He lowered his gaze, looking at the floor for a moment, his voice betraying the barest hints of emotion.

Luis tried to look sympathetic. "It's not as bleak as it seems," he said, trying to be encouraging. "There's millions of people in the pods you just came out of and we've been told they collected our loved ones too. Someone you know might even be here already."

"True. Have already met Shepard, after all..." He mused, tapping his chin.

"And if they are not. Vengeance is suitable motivation."

"No kidding," Luis agreed.

"So, ah, I'm a liason to the makeshift command crew, so if there's anything you are concerned about or any more burning questions on your mind I can try to help out."

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Will be sure to let you know, doctor. Thank you for the welcome, such as it is." Mordin nodded thoughtfully.

"Much to think about."
