'Meat' 'n Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a green-skinned alien and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

A brief visit to weapons and possessions had thankfully returned Mordin to a state of near normalcy. Weapons on hand, omnitool back in its proper place and even his armor, which he wore in lieu of the rather intriguing (if disturbing) plantsuit. He ahd been directed here, to the Obs deck. And so he had come, hopefully to gain some answers to the many questions that were bouncing around his head.

And answers he would get! In a rather unlikely form, admittedly-- a sketchy-looking man in glasses leaning against the wall a short distance away, smoking a cigarette. One of the new crewmates had a box in their possessions and as soon as Luis smelled the intoxicating nicotine cloud he missed so greatly (and had really, just about quit cold turkey) all it took was some emphatic begging for him to get one loaned to him.

And he was enjoying it. Immensely.

Never one to discriminate against freaky-looking aliens, he sat up and headed over to this one since it looked like nobody had yet. "Hola, amigo, welcome to the meatship," he said pleasantly. "Anything I can help you with?"

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Mordin raised one hand and waved away some of the smoke. He eyed the human for a moment before replying, deciding to start off with simple things.

"Perhaps. Have been informed that I am here to fight the Ohm. Would be most helpful if you explained this." A pause (barely there, really, but to Mordin it was a pause).

"Also, would like clarification: this is not a Collector vessel? Not Council affiliated or similar, either?"

Boy, Mordin, you picked some doozies to start with. Luis did try to hold his cigarette away though, since he didn't want to introduce on the wrong foot.

"I'm... afraid I don't know what you mean by Collector and Council and that kind of thing," he admitted, starting off with the one he didn't know.

"And as far as the Ohm go, they are an evil race of beings blowing up the universe and we were rescued through some vague and poorly-defined plan to defeat them... that's the gist of it."

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Mordin had to smile slightly at Luis' last remark.

"Hm. Seems very similar to last mission I was involved in. Irony." He tapped his fingers together a moment before activating his omnitool, inputting data and notes. An eyebrow ridge does go up, though.

"You are human, correct? But not familiar with Alliance, Council or Collectors. Fascinating. Suggests that you are not from Alliance space. Which is impossible. All humans from Earth. Unless they also evolved elsewhere. No, statistically so unlikely as to be impossible." He'll keep going like this unless you interrupt him, Luis.

[personal profile] notlewis 2010-04-02 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
He was starting to catch onto that. "I'm human, yes, but slow down," he interrupted. "I am from 2004, so that might have something to do with it." Space was for Russia, China, America, and eccentric billionaires where he was from.

"Incidentally I'm Dr. Luis Sera, head of the science department on our makeshift little crew," he said.

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Doctor Mordin Solus. 2004? Ah yes. Earth dating system based on death of religious figure. You are from significantly far back in the past based on my knowledge of human dating. Odd. Delusional? Maybe. Unless...no. Ship abducts from across multiple times, not merely places. Extremely unlikely, plausible time travel not yet found. Fascinating." He eyed Luis up and down.

"Scientist? Specialty? Forgive rudeness, but likely that my scientific knowledge exceeds yours. Not your fault of course. Hampered by primitive methods found in past."
notlewis: (Annoyed)

[personal profile] notlewis 2010-04-02 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Watching Luis' expression change was probably hilarious. He went from neutral to looking very, very cross.

"Whoa, whoa, okay. No on the delusional and no on the primitive," he said, careful with his tone. Good first impressions, good first impressions... "And I am a biologist with an emphasis on microorganisms, parasites and pathogens." He mentally told himself to settle down. He had a point, he wasn't as experienced with all this futuristic garbage as he could be.

But really, you wouldn't go back in time and tell Galileo or Louis Pasteur that he was "hampered by primitive methods."

A hologram blipped in, and Tex looked Mordin up and down briefly. "Nice neck...thing," she finally said after a moment. "So we got some more aliens for this pop, huh?"

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Mordin may have been surprised, but he didn't show it. He paused a moment, studying Tex.

"I suppose. If pop refers to the process of being released from pods." He furrowed his brow in thought.

"Holographic transmission? But no reason not to join others in greeting new arrivals in person."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. It's shorter than saying 'spat out by lumps of goo', anyway." Tex shrugged at the question. "This is all I've got. Unless I hijack Grif's armor, and then I'm still a hologram if I'm projecting."

She eyeballed him again. "Freelancer Tex. Who're you?"

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah. Artificial intelligence, then?" Even more intriguing. He would have to look into this. Apparently the people here were comfortable with AIs. Or more comfortable than those he was used to working with, at least.

"Doctor Mordin Solus."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep. AI without a robot I can use, which means that for right now? I'm stuck being intangible."

She perks noticeably at the mention of his title. "Doctor, huh? We could always use more of those. If there's more doctors overall? That means Doc gets fewer patients." From the way she says it, this counts as good thing.

"Fascinating. AIs not used where I come from. Bad experiences." He'll leave it at that to pursue the other line of conversation.

"Yes. Will be happy to assist. Especially if destruction of home universe is true."

[identity profile] domeanthings.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
"As far as we know, it is. Expecting anybody you know to pop out, too? They might already be here."

In its scanning of the room, Legion catches onto a salarian presence and lingers. No doubt about it that this one was also from Shepard's crew. The chances of another from its universe had been low, but this was certainly a fortunate turn of events.

"Professor Solus," it addresses as it approaches.

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Mordin turned to look at the Geth. It was still mildly disconcerting to work with Legion, but the AI had proved quite helpfula nd even admirable in their fight against the Collectors.

"Legion. Fortunate that I am not the only member of Shepard's crew here."

[identity profile] muchwisdom.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It nods in concurrence. "STA'C K'LTRRB'TXFT brought individuals to fight the 'Ohm.' Shepard-Commander brought individuals to fight the Old Machines. If more from our universe appear, it may follow the same logic," The doctor was an asset; one such capable individual. But seeing him here meant that it was all the more likely that 'Stacy's' story was true. That all they knew was gone.

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Certainly. Shepard is aboard. Must warn you, has no recollection of events surrounding Collectors. May believe you to be 'Heretic' and attack on sight." Mordin was going to do his best to give people warning about what he'd discovered. They needed to know, after all.

[identity profile] phaseshifted.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Garrus scanned the crowd, keeping an eye out for anyone he knew. There were a lot of people to sort through, but Garrus could be patient. There were mostly humans again, with a small scattering of creatures he didn't recognize, but it didn't seem like -- wait.

He recognized that armor.

"Dr. Solus," Garrus greeted, a small smile quirked on his face. He liked Mordin; he'd heard a lot about the doctor during his vigilante spree on Omega, and he'd more than proven his worth on the mission against the Collectors. It was good to see that more of Shepard's crew was here.

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Garrus." The salarian was mildly surprised to see the turian here, though not by much. The appearance of Ashley Williams, Legion, Shepard, and himself had led him to conclude that whatever force had brought them here wanted Shepard and her crew along. All the better, it meant that he had people he could rely upon.

"Glad to see you healthy. Shepard also aboard. Regretfully, seems to be suffering some memory loss." He left it at that for now. He didn't like being the bearer of bad news, but it would probably be better if Garrus learned now than from talking to Shepard later. Best to avoid awkward misunderstandings.

[identity profile] phaseshifted.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good to see you okay, too," he said. Last he'd seen of the doctor, they were all banged up on the Normandy after blowing the Collector base to hell and back.

Whoa, Shepard was here? Garrus grinned at the news, but it faded into a worried expression as Mordin continued. "What do you mean, 'memory loss'?" he asked. "What does she not remember?"

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Mordin coughed, then tented his fingers, pondering the best way to say what had to be said.

"Appears to have no recollection at all of mission against the Collectors. Did not recognize me. Troubling. Not sure what to make of it."

[identity profile] phaseshifted.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Garrus frowned. "Tali was like that, too, when we woke up together," he replied, "The last thing she remembered was the destruction of the first Normandy, whereas I had just returned from the assault on the Collector base." He shrugged. "It seems Stacy is able to take people from the same universes from different times than others."

((ooc: Sorry about the wait; my internet died yesterday. >: ))

[identity profile] modelscientist.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Fascinating. Will have to study this phenomenon. Raises question of usefulness if not all crew are from same time, though. Hm." He tapped his chin, already rocketing through possibilities in his own mind. He forced himself to stop however and glanced up at Garrus.

"Unsure of what this means for your...relationship with Shepard."
