KARAOKE DANCE PARTY!!! [OPEN, COME GRAB FREE CR!]

Everyone had been so nice to Ryo since he had awoken a day prior. He wanted to show his appreciation to his friends and the crew, and get a chance to meet others. So, he walked back into the sensoriums and imagined a place. As he opened his eyes, there was the Milk Dipper. Wood finish, stars decorating the place, rough hewn wooden tables and the telescope in it's pedestal at the center. Everything was as it should be, except for one thing. Behind the counter, looking very confused, was a green-skinned demon who bore no resemblance to Airi. Ryo registered his shock as the demon spoke.

"This... is NOT my bar..." The green one said, his own shock evident. He looked at Ryo. "And you're not Peter..." Ryo, not knowing what to do, bowed quickly.

"I'm sorry, Oni-san, I just wanted to throw a party for everyone, with karaoke and dancing, and I didn't mean to summon you!" The demon shook his head, waving Ryo off.

"It's Lorne, and you had me at karaoke. Now, this place.... I like it. Kind of a kitsch-meets-class thing going on... It does need to be bigger, though..." Lorne snapped his fingers and the cafe expanded, now as large as an auditorium. The telescope pedestal sat firmly in the center of a well-polished dance floor, underneath a disco ball and lighting set up. To the left of the counter was a stage with a karoake set-up, and behind the counter was now a lot more than just coffee. Otherwise, the decor remained the same.

"Alright, Ryo-kun." Lorne said with a smile. "Give everyone the heads up and get this party started." Ryo nodded, amazed by the demon's abilities, and gave a call on the omnicomms.

[[ OOC: It's karaoke dance party time! Start a sub-thread with your character singing a song, socializing, or just being a wallflower, and let the CR flow! Especially great for newbies to meet folk and influence people!]]

Raucous clapping from the guy who thundered out of work at the sound of karaoke.

Allen pokes his head through the door. "I hear synth."

He spots Lorne and his face lights up. "Heeeey, there's my favorite AI. You know what I like."

The AI does, in fact, know what Allen likes, and the background music is already playing by the time Allen makes it to the mic, pulling an electric guitar out of the aether of the Sensorium. (He loves doing that.)

"This is sort of my wife's song, so humor me," he announces, picking casually through the opening notes of some Jimmy Buffett (http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Twelve-Volt-Man-lyrics-Jimmy-Buffett/DCE59CB3388BAF09482569A1003082DF).

"I never got a grip on penmanship
Could never make the small "L's" flow
Seldom found the trick to arith-a-metic
Three plus two be faux, pas

But ask for some palm trees
Or tales from the South Seas
And I just might turn your head - "

He'd had the song stuck in his head since seeing the Jareth costume at the party, so he had excuse to sing it. Plus, it was kind or relevant. But do you really need an excuse to sing some Bowie? Apparently, yes, which was why he was so incredibly stoked to find the virtual karaoke. The green demon running the place was a little weird, but what karaoke bar isn't weird in some way?

He was still getting used to the sensorium, but when it was his turn, whatever technology it ran on started up the song.

"o/` This is Ground Control
to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today...
o/`"

Rein was there in Full Size mode today, having borrowed Matt's guitar for accompaniment and dressed in yellows in a sort of rock girl outfit. Seizing the moment, she got up to the front and waved. "Hi everyone! I'm Rein and I'm gonna sing something that Matt taught me. Hope you like it."

Surprisingly the appropriate music started up once she started to strum.

Looking back, I don't regret...
One single day.
Memories will keep me close...
When you walk away.
It's harder than I could imagine.
I guess I should have known that.
Close your eyes, I'll be there.
I'll come running anywhere.

Say goodbye, I'll be okay.
I will wait for you, cause...
True love will never fade.
When it's real, you can feel it.
And I know, that you know..
That I will keep on waiting..
Patiently..
Patiently... for you.

Wolfwood was clapping wildly as Rein finished.

"Well played, little lady. You grow up good, if I might add."

She doesn't know any of the songs, and good luck finding ones she DOES know, but Mulan knows a group sing when she hears one and she'd be a terrible Disney character if didn't join in.

Slobo, who had also run in as Allen had, looked back.

"'S karaoke, where ya get up and sing a song ya like, then grab a beer and chill, meet people on ship." He saluted her with his own brew.

"Example, nice ta meetcha, I'm Slobo, the Top Teen."

Wallflower is go - bonus points if you get her to sing

[identity profile] wearsagun.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Beckett had planned on spending the evening by herself, as she wasn't entirely a sociable person. She didn't mind having company around, but what she really enjoyed was finding a good book and a hot bath; as far as she knew, neither of those were options. So she settled for something else instead; something that, oddly enough, involved singing.

She'd been walking around the ship when she heard the sounds coming from the sensoriums, and she went to check it out. Apparently someone had set up a karaoke night, and people were getting into it full swing. She, however, was not a singing person, and so she picked one of the unoccupied walls to lean against and watch what was going on.

Wolfwood sauntered over and eyed the wallflower over the tp ofhis sunglasses.

After appraisal, he liked what he saw.

Billy smiled weakly at the people passing his spot near the stage, watching them come and go with interest. Well, he might as well do something productive with his time here, right?

A certain Engineering partner of his had coerced him into coming. It wasn't that Billy didn't like Ryo---he did, actually, but he'd felt that someone needed to stay behind while a chunk of their engineers went out to play. That had ended when Allen had threatened to use physical force to relocate him.

So here he was, loyally cheering on each act. He wasn't prepared to sing again---not yet, but maybe inspiration would come later.

Slobo got up and grabbed the mic.

"This goes out to a very special girl..." Which one Slobo? Oh, what? The song is starting? How convenient.

"I don't wanna hear about it anymore
It's a shame I've got to live without you anymore
There's a fire in my heart
A pounding in my brain
It's driving me crazy

We don't need to talk about it anymore
Yesterday's just a memory
Can we close the door
I just made one mistake
I didn't know what to say when you called me baby

Don't say goodnight
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh oo Oh, all the way

Can you take me high enough
To fly me over (fly me over) yesterday
Can you take me high enough
It's never over
Yesterday's just a memory (yesterday's just a memory and)... o/`

Seeing old friends again, being a live even in the face of all that loss the offer to enjoy singing and dancing was something she couldn't say no to. She was glad she'd chosen to attend as soon as she stepped inside and saw the group of people. Smiles and laughter were filling the room as more and more people joined.

She herself took up little space, drifting around watching the people. She wasn't getting really involved, not until she heard a familiar voice take the mic. She hovered higher, enough to see over the heads of the crowd.

Her smile was wide and bright as he began to sing, and then her jaw dropped. He really could sing! Not just passingly but well! She waited out the entire song before exploding into applause and cheering for her friend.

"That was amazing!" He might not hear her over the others, but she was really quite proud of him in that moment.

Well, Kazami had always liked music. Playing guitar and singing. They were things that came naturally to him, more naturally than fighting.

So it's with an easy smile that he steps up to the stage, takes the mic, and starts to sing a short, but heartfelt song.

"The evening sun blazed red
and danced with you on the horizon
Ah, whether you love it or hate it lalalala
you will not be coming back
from the great horizon of two men

The evening sun blazed red
and the horizon scolded you
Ah, even if you laugh or embrace it lalalala
There won't be a time to come back
from the great horizon of two men.

Mulan would be content to sit and wait the rest of the party out, enjoying the others' performances, but it seems the sensoriums have one more surprise to unleash on her.

Another familiar song floats through the room, and Mulan, looking somewhere between confused, appalled, close to laughter, runs up on stage, checking to make sure Shang isn't there (not that she didn't want him at the party, but oh what he would think if he saw her singing this song -

"Let's get down to business
To defeat the Huns!"

Sawyer steps on the stage. Thanks to the sensorium, he's got on a pair of jeans, a shirt that's half unbuttoned, a big-ass belt buckle and a cowboy hat. He's also got a nice shiner from where a certain female dished out a beating to him down in the precinct.

"This is for all the ladies," he said with a mischievous grin. "Especially this one," he added, pointing to his black eye.

He then saunters over to the mic just as the music starts (get comfortable everyone, this is likely to be the longest song of the night):

o/I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon! Hold on tight!
C'mon! Hold on tight!

Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light

Goliath doesn't make a habit of singing, and so he is content to stand in the back, watching (and politely applauding) the others' performances. The spectacle is amusing enough of a diversion.

Song and Oath

[identity profile] bluebrassmonkey.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Music.

Whether it's grating to his ears or harmonious, it's one thing he can rarely turn from. It's also one of those things that sparks his mind to drift, to wander and think on things he either shouldn't or...

Like now.

Carefully following what mobility knowledge he can use, the oddity manages to quietly find his way to the source. You've been good to me. Only when he's sure silence of a sort comes after a recent selection, does the creature even try anything. It's sheer impulse -- an impulse that's entirely too quick for his logical aspect to not fire a warning bell at but it's...he knows this kind of impulse.
Ffyniant
It's scary. Frightening. And he can't, won't dare pull himself away.

He crawls onto the stage once he finds it.

His many-and-one, layered-harmony voice is soft, somehow melding two songs together. Around him, the beastie offers the corresponding story that such a melding of songs makes.
Tragedy of loss, a pair of emerald eyes winking out.
And the brand of loyalty he knows when an instinct like this shows its existence. He had known death for too long, but so too has he known life. Thus, Renne sits on the stage, quietly singing his offering as his skin slowly fades from one colour to the next.

His English isn't as keen as he'd like it. His Welsh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95F2HNTuftM) is worse. With him however, the songs themselves merge into one story that defines who he is, where he's from and an unspoken oath (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDdeNwlJ44U).

Brothers in Arms
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

A perfect grasp on the language definitely wasn't necessary for Renne to get his point across. The power of the words penetrates Billy's head and echoes across his thoughts.

Billy thinks his impish blue friend might be singing for comrades long lost, and feels a pang of sadness for them. At the same time, he hears a message of togetherness: perhaps he'd managed to make his point the other day that everyone on the ship was in the same boat, and that not all humans wanted to hurt.

Renne, you have a human admirer cheering his lungs out for you, and you'll soon find that it's traceable to Bee's scent.

Wolfwood approaches the stage and takes up a guitar. There are no introductions, he simply started playing. Fiddle accompaniment rang outt from the speakers as Wolfwood began to sing.

"o/`The devil went down to Georgia
he was looking for a soul to steal
He was in a bind cuz he was way behind
He was willing to make a deal
He came across a young man
sawing on a fiddle playing it HOT

The devil jumped up on a hickory stump
and said "boy lemme tell you what"
"I guess you didn't know it but I'm a fiddle player too"
"and if you care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you"
"Now you play pretty good fiddle boy but give the devil his due"
"I bet a fiddle of GOLD against your SOUL to think I'm better then you"

The boy said" MY names Johnny and it might be a sin"
"but I'll take your bet your gonna regret I'm the best theirs ever been"

Johnny rosin up you bow and play that fiddle hard
Cuz hells broke loose in Georgia
and the devil deals the cards
and if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose the devil gets your SOUL... o/`

Who's gonna save the world?
Who's gonna save the day?
From Ahab, crabs who steal, and eerie eels with evil rays?
Who's gonna talk like Curly, since Curly isn't here?
Who's gonna chase down villains and then turn around and run in fear?
You know who I'm talkin' about, he's fat and short on brains and I do not mean Captain Caveman I mean Jabberjaw.

"This one's an oldie, but uh..." The Middleman paused, realizing that there were some people present who were from the past, or worlds where the song would never exist. "Well it's an oldie wherw I come from."

Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood an old cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B Goode
Who'd never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play a guitar just like a ringin' a bell

Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

Claudia climbs on the stage and takes the mic. "So I know a lot of you are from Earth and stuff and from about the same time I am. You dudes, will so know this song!"

U can't touch this
U can't touch this
U can't touch this
U can't touch this

My-my-my-my (U can't touch this) music hits me so hard
Makes me say,"oh my lord thank you for blessing me
With a mind to rhyme and two hyped feet"
It feels good
When you know you're sown
A superdope homeboy from the Oaktown
And I'm known as such
And this is a beat-uh!
U can't touch this

I told you homeboy
U can't touch this
Yeah, that's how we livin' and you know
U can't touch this
Look in my eyes,man
U can't touch this
Yo, let me bust the funky lyrics
U can't touch this

Fresh new kicks and pants
You got it like that now you know you wanna dance
So move out of your seat
And get a fly girl and catch this beat
While it's rolling
Hold on
Pump a little bit and let 'em know it's going on
Like that
Like that
Cold on a mission so fall on back
Let 'em know that you're too much
And this is a beat
They can't touch

Yo! I told you
U can't touch this
Why you standing there, man?
U can't touch this
Yo,sound the bells, school is in, sucker
U can't touch this
Give me a song or rhythm
Making 'em sweat
That's what I'm giving'em
Now they know
You talk about the Hammer, you're talking about a show
That's hyped and tight
Singers are sweating so pass them a wipe
Or a tape to learn
What it is going to take in the '90s
To burn the charts
Legit either work hard or you might as well quit

That's the word,because you know
U can't touch this
U can't touch this

Break it down

She grins and starts doing the crazy hammer dance from the early 90*s and it's obvious that Claudia is having way too much fun with it.

Stop. . . Hammer time!!

Luke hadn't heard the omnicomm call, but he had heard the music and come to investigate. The place reminded him of a few of the many cantinas he'd found himself in over the years, with the same kind of atmosphere. The woman dancing strangely onstage was new, though.

Weaving his way past knots of people and tables, Luke collected some kind of drink from the bar and then made his way toward the stage, watching curiously.

"Continuing in the vein of Disney songs...." Wags said as he got on stage.

Hakuna Matata...
What a wonderful phrase,

Hakuna Matata...
Ain't no passin' craze.

It means no worries,
For the rest of your days

It's our problem free,
Philosophy...

Hakuna Matata.

The stage goes dark as the next act comes on. A small man wearing a tux perches casually on a stool and twirls a cigarette (don't worry, Quesada, it's an illusionary one) between his fingers.

She packed my bags... last night, pre-flight
Zero hour... nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be...
high! ... as a kite by then
Oh, I miss the earth so much... I miss my wife
It's
lonely... out in space
On such a...
timeless! flight

And I think it's gonna be... a long, long time
Till touch down... brings me back again to find
I'm not the man... they think I am at home
Oh, no, no,
no...

I'm a
rocket man!

Isaac gave a chuckling dedication "to all the moustache twirlers and cat strokers in the audience, and anyone else who's worked into the wee hours on something while cackling maniacally". Then he launched into mad scientist's song of revenge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02Bk1OjFLJA), his booming bass giving it that special crazy gravitas.

Jamie is doing his very best 'holding up the wall' impression, because after last time? It's going to take a small miracle to get him to sing. He's still pretty clearly having a good time just watching everyone else and listening to the music.

Wallflowers represent.

"Havin' fun?" Wyn asks with a grin, leaning next to Jamie with a bottle of water in hand. (She's more than proved that she doesn't need any help being convinced to sing.)

"Hello," says Bella. "I am told that there is singing here. I am not a Galliard but I do know a song. It is one my pack would sing."

It's going to be harder to do it alone, and she feels a little weird up here on a stage, but she'll try.

She howls, there should be other voices in this song but her meaning is still there. It's kind of creepy, really. The wolf's sound reads long and clear, but at the same time it's... understandable in some impossible way.

"Hear us, hear us,
we are wolves all, great wolves all,
this pack is strong, this pack is strongest
our teeth are sharper we are fiercer hear us, hear us
Run from us when we call, run from our borders and our teeth!

We are many many many many
We run we run we run
We hunt we hunt we hunt we hunt
Food for bellies food for pups
jaws to throat of other pack
We are wolves, hear us call,
Hear us, fear us, best of all."

Song & dance? || Not quite your average show.

Arha had a quiet word with the green skinned man with the red eyes, her outfit a softly chiming ensemble (http://www.raks-sharki.com/costumes/bella_pharonic.html) of beads and fabric, it had a distinctly Egyptian flair to it with turquoise, gold, and red accents.  It was not singing, but she had picked the music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PagDaUZPUR4) well, she thought as it brought to mind the deep desert and the joy of survival.  The flare of the opening rippled out as she half laughed and took the stage, barefoot, her hair loose as she moved through a complicated set of moves that flashed leg and hips equally pulled by the rhythm of the music.  It held traces of Middle eastern dance to it combined with Bene Gesserit taught moves, and the music itself was easy to get lost in.  It rippled like water around her, shaping her moves into sensous curves and graceful lines as fabric flared and spun, soft powdery turquoise mixing with a flare of desert red.

It was a different form of song, a celebration of movement and footwork that let her work elements from her own past and the graceful moves she had learned in the form of lightsaber combat.  It was freedom from the confines of the nightmares that were a source of stress, and by the time the last beat had rung out, the last pivot and flick of her hips was finished, it was enough to pull a radiant smile across her features.  Had she been asked to choose her own profession, it would have been this, a dancer, for there was nothing more free than this.

She left the stage breathless and flushed, her own joy in the dance a muted mental shimmer as she moved away to find water, her blue-within-blue eyes bright.

Katara clapped enthusiastically. "That was great, Arha!" She said, smiling. "But if you don't mind, I'd also like to do something simliar, and if you'd join me, that would be great too! HOld on, let me go to the Karaoke guy."

She walked over to the green skinned guy ands gave him a whisper. When he nodded, Katara smiled. She was in her fire nation outfit thsi time, since it gave her more freedom of movement. She closed her eyes, waiting for the music to start. She was barefoot thsi time: she'd have to be.

It started slow, and Katara started to sway her hips gently as the singer started with her "na na na na neee," and the movents were deliberate, slow, and a little risque, precisely how she liked it. As the tempo increased, Katara's started the dance she and Aang began only a few months back, only now it was less capoiera and more Middle Eastern percussion, and she gave Arha a come hother look, extending her hand.

Matt who had finally arrived, grinned as he picked up his guitar from Rein's side and got atop the stage. "Gonna have fun with my selection so here's JoCo's Blue Sunny Day!"

Early light that burns my eyes,
A minute more the sun will rise
And paint the bright blue sky with yellow gold
I’ll be dead asleep by then,
Shut up in this box again
Until it’s gone
Outside I can hear it
Birds are singing, bees are buzzing, sun shines overhead
I’d be there to see it but I can’t get out of bed
Since the day you left the weather always feels this way
One more blue sunny day

Alia had been hanging back, watching. This type of social interaction was strange and new to her, so unlike the balls, and grandeur of her palace life. But music... music she understood.

When Matt finished she could not help but clap feeling a strange kinship to the lyrics, but the instrument enthralled her. So like a baliset, and yet... not, for a moment, her mind flashed away to Arakkis, listening to Gurney play in those quite evenings in the seitch, but her whiteless yes remained fixated on both Matt, and his guitar.
