KARAOKE DANCE PARTY!!! [OPEN, COME GRAB FREE CR!]

Everyone had been so nice to Ryo since he had awoken a day prior. He wanted to show his appreciation to his friends and the crew, and get a chance to meet others. So, he walked back into the sensoriums and imagined a place. As he opened his eyes, there was the Milk Dipper. Wood finish, stars decorating the place, rough hewn wooden tables and the telescope in it's pedestal at the center. Everything was as it should be, except for one thing. Behind the counter, looking very confused, was a green-skinned demon who bore no resemblance to Airi. Ryo registered his shock as the demon spoke.

"This... is NOT my bar..." The green one said, his own shock evident. He looked at Ryo. "And you're not Peter..." Ryo, not knowing what to do, bowed quickly.

"I'm sorry, Oni-san, I just wanted to throw a party for everyone, with karaoke and dancing, and I didn't mean to summon you!" The demon shook his head, waving Ryo off.

"It's Lorne, and you had me at karaoke. Now, this place.... I like it. Kind of a kitsch-meets-class thing going on... It does need to be bigger, though..." Lorne snapped his fingers and the cafe expanded, now as large as an auditorium. The telescope pedestal sat firmly in the center of a well-polished dance floor, underneath a disco ball and lighting set up. To the left of the counter was a stage with a karoake set-up, and behind the counter was now a lot more than just coffee. Otherwise, the decor remained the same.

"Alright, Ryo-kun." Lorne said with a smile. "Give everyone the heads up and get this party started." Ryo nodded, amazed by the demon's abilities, and gave a call on the omnicomms.

[[ OOC: It's karaoke dance party time! Start a sub-thread with your character singing a song, socializing, or just being a wallflower, and let the CR flow! Especially great for newbies to meet folk and influence people!]]

Raucous clapping from the guy who thundered out of work at the sound of karaoke.

Allen pokes his head through the door. "I hear synth."

He spots Lorne and his face lights up. "Heeeey, there's my favorite AI. You know what I like."

The AI does, in fact, know what Allen likes, and the background music is already playing by the time Allen makes it to the mic, pulling an electric guitar out of the aether of the Sensorium. (He loves doing that.)

"This is sort of my wife's song, so humor me," he announces, picking casually through the opening notes of some Jimmy Buffett (http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Twelve-Volt-Man-lyrics-Jimmy-Buffett/DCE59CB3388BAF09482569A1003082DF).

"I never got a grip on penmanship
Could never make the small "L's" flow
Seldom found the trick to arith-a-metic
Three plus two be faux, pas

But ask for some palm trees
Or tales from the South Seas
And I just might turn your head - "

He'd had the song stuck in his head since seeing the Jareth costume at the party, so he had excuse to sing it. Plus, it was kind or relevant. But do you really need an excuse to sing some Bowie? Apparently, yes, which was why he was so incredibly stoked to find the virtual karaoke. The green demon running the place was a little weird, but what karaoke bar isn't weird in some way?

He was still getting used to the sensorium, but when it was his turn, whatever technology it ran on started up the song.

"o/` This is Ground Control
to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today...
o/`"

Rein was there in Full Size mode today, having borrowed Matt's guitar for accompaniment and dressed in yellows in a sort of rock girl outfit. Seizing the moment, she got up to the front and waved. "Hi everyone! I'm Rein and I'm gonna sing something that Matt taught me. Hope you like it."

Surprisingly the appropriate music started up once she started to strum.

Looking back, I don't regret...
One single day.
Memories will keep me close...
When you walk away.
It's harder than I could imagine.
I guess I should have known that.
Close your eyes, I'll be there.
I'll come running anywhere.

Say goodbye, I'll be okay.
I will wait for you, cause...
True love will never fade.
When it's real, you can feel it.
And I know, that you know..
That I will keep on waiting..
Patiently..
Patiently... for you.

"What's going on in here?"

She doesn't know any of the songs, and good luck finding ones she DOES know, but Mulan knows a group sing when she hears one and she'd be a terrible Disney character if didn't join in.

Wallflower is go - bonus points if you get her to sing

Beckett had planned on spending the evening by herself, as she wasn't entirely a sociable person. She didn't mind having company around, but what she really enjoyed was finding a good book and a hot bath; as far as she knew, neither of those were options. So she settled for something else instead; something that, oddly enough, involved singing.

She'd been walking around the ship when she heard the sounds coming from the sensoriums, and she went to check it out. Apparently someone had set up a karaoke night, and people were getting into it full swing. She, however, was not a singing person, and so she picked one of the unoccupied walls to lean against and watch what was going on.

"Thank you, thank you!" Allen points at Ryo. "I'll be here all night."

Seriously, he will be.

Slobo, who had also run in as Allen had, looked back.

"'S karaoke, where ya get up and sing a song ya like, then grab a beer and chill, meet people on ship." He saluted her with his own brew.

"Example, nice ta meetcha, I'm Slobo, the Top Teen."
governorkang: (Having fun)

"It's a party," Kang grinned, seated at a nearby table. "More tame than I'm used to, but still, something to pass the time."

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Slobo had walked in partway through the song, and clapped his "rabbi" on the back.

"Good on ya, Al." He said with a grin. "Karaoke... 'S like some weird siren call, ain't it?"

Wolfwood was clapping wildly as Rein finished.

"Well played, little lady. You grow up good, if I might add."

[identity profile] twelvevoltman.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
"It has a pull on my soul. What are you singing, man?"

One of these days, it will be Hava Nagila (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItLFlcHouzo). Wait and see.

Wolfwood sauntered over and eyed the wallflower over the tp ofhis sunglasses.

After appraisal, he liked what he saw.

"Well, Hello there!" He said with a grin and an offered hand. "I don't think I've had what I can already tell is the extreme pleasure of making your acquaintance! Nicholas D. Wolfwood, priest by trade. And you are?"

[identity profile] sent-herself.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Slobo. I'm Fa Mulan. Family name first." She smiles, looking around. "I don't know how likely it is that anybody here knows any of the songs I -"

She stops, as a strangely familiar tune (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm3ijOVsraA) floats out of the speakers.

"Wh - this is impossible -"

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Rein stepped down from the kareoke stage, all flush with excitement. "Thank you Wolfwood!" she gushed, sitting down and placing the guitar to the side. "You're making me blush!"

[identity profile] sent-herself.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Good evening, Kang." Mulan bows, still polite, but her smile is wide and friendly now that she and the draconian are thoroughly friends. "This is a good idea. The crew could use the boost in morale."

And those weird dreams certainly haven't been giving it!

"Are you going to sing anything?"

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Nothin's impossible on the meatship, Mulan." He said nonchalantly. He grinned.

"Yeah, it's a popular tune. Everyone loves it."

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, you'll see. And love it." He grinned at his hebrew teacher.

"I still ain't singing Hava Nagila, though. No way, buddy."

[identity profile] sent-herself.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"But . . . the men made this song up while we were marching, it doesn't -"

Better push her up there soon, because it sounds like that thing's going to stay on a loop until SOMEBODY sings it!
morphitudinous: (...what in the name of)

Billy smiled weakly at the people passing his spot near the stage, watching them come and go with interest. Well, he might as well do something productive with his time here, right?

A certain Engineering partner of his had coerced him into coming. It wasn't that Billy didn't like Ryo---he did, actually, but he'd felt that someone needed to stay behind while a chunk of their engineers went out to play. That had ended when Allen had threatened to use physical force to relocate him.

So here he was, loyally cheering on each act. He wasn't prepared to sing again---not yet, but maybe inspiration would come later.

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Slobo got up and grabbed the mic.

"This goes out to a very special girl..." Which one Slobo? Oh, what? The song is starting? How convenient.

"I don't wanna hear about it anymore
It's a shame I've got to live without you anymore
There's a fire in my heart
A pounding in my brain
It's driving me crazy

We don't need to talk about it anymore
Yesterday's just a memory
Can we close the door
I just made one mistake
I didn't know what to say when you called me baby

Don't say goodnight
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh oo Oh, all the way

Can you take me high enough
To fly me over (fly me over) yesterday
Can you take me high enough
It's never over
Yesterday's just a memory (yesterday's just a memory and)... o/`
"

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he does with a grin. And joins.

"Jus' let the music take ya!" He shouted cheerfully as he starting taking Yao's part with his gravelly, albeit higher pitched, voice.
governorkang: (This is fun / Go fish!)

Kang smiled, not nearly as uncomfortable with the bowing as he was before now that he was used to it. He figured it was a cultural greeting thing. "Come sit down."

That sentence made him pause, and he shook his head, "...I don't sing."
