KARAOKE DANCE PARTY!!! [OPEN, COME GRAB FREE CR!]

Everyone had been so nice to Ryo since he had awoken a day prior. He wanted to show his appreciation to his friends and the crew, and get a chance to meet others. So, he walked back into the sensoriums and imagined a place. As he opened his eyes, there was the Milk Dipper. Wood finish, stars decorating the place, rough hewn wooden tables and the telescope in it's pedestal at the center. Everything was as it should be, except for one thing. Behind the counter, looking very confused, was a green-skinned demon who bore no resemblance to Airi. Ryo registered his shock as the demon spoke.

"This... is NOT my bar..." The green one said, his own shock evident. He looked at Ryo. "And you're not Peter..." Ryo, not knowing what to do, bowed quickly.

"I'm sorry, Oni-san, I just wanted to throw a party for everyone, with karaoke and dancing, and I didn't mean to summon you!" The demon shook his head, waving Ryo off.

"It's Lorne, and you had me at karaoke. Now, this place.... I like it. Kind of a kitsch-meets-class thing going on... It does need to be bigger, though..." Lorne snapped his fingers and the cafe expanded, now as large as an auditorium. The telescope pedestal sat firmly in the center of a well-polished dance floor, underneath a disco ball and lighting set up. To the left of the counter was a stage with a karoake set-up, and behind the counter was now a lot more than just coffee. Otherwise, the decor remained the same.

"Alright, Ryo-kun." Lorne said with a smile. "Give everyone the heads up and get this party started." Ryo nodded, amazed by the demon's abilities, and gave a call on the omnicomms.

[[ OOC: It's karaoke dance party time! Start a sub-thread with your character singing a song, socializing, or just being a wallflower, and let the CR flow! Especially great for newbies to meet folk and influence people!]]

"Why wouldn't I be?" Jamie looks at Wyn as if the answer to that question should be obvious, then grins back at her. "Of course I am."

He takes a drink from his own glass, which has something reddish in it. "Ye have any more verra interesting songs with strange dances ye are planning on doing today?"

"No dances, unfortunately. I could do the Leekspin song, but anyone who's said they've managed to spin a leek in real life is lying." Wyn says with a grimace. Obviously she's tried (and failed at) to spin a leek before.
bonnypiperlad: (seriously?)

"Of course. Ye eat leeks, ye don't spin them. Anyone should know that." Jamie's had cock-a-leekie soup more times than he can count. Why on earth would anyone want to spin a leek? Eating them makes much more sense.

Wyn has managed to arouse his curiosity on one thing to do with leeks, though. "What is this Leekspin song?"

"... d'you know what a meme is?" Wyn asks after a moment, trying to think of the best way to describe the Leekspin. 'Stupid internet meme' works as an explanation, but only if the other person understands the concept.

Computers and the Internet simply didn't exist when Jamie grew up. He's picked up a good deal of knowledge over the past few years, but doesn't have anywhere near the level of casual usage that a lot of the other crew has. He thinks he may have the word before in passing, but realizes he doesn't actually know what it means.

He's rather tempted to try and fake the knowledge with as a offhand 'Oh, aye, that'. However, he's afraid if he does, he's going to wind up not understanding the rest of the explanation.

So he shakes his head instead, and admits, "Not so much, no."

The only reason Wyn asked is because she knows Jamie's not from a time period when the Internet was around; even if he knows what it is now, there's no reason for her to assume that he knows what she's talking about. "A meme is a catchphrase or an image or a video or whatever that spreads from person to person on the Internet, usually just because a group of people think it's funny."
bonnypiperlad: (So...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-02-07 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a simple enough explanation that Jamie can understand it without too much thought. There's a faint frown as he puzzles his way through it and then he nods knowingly. "So...this song is one of those meme-things, then?"

There's a pause, and he adds, "What's it like?"

Wyn thought you'd never ask, Jamie.

"yaa tsi tsup ari dik ari dull an dik ari dill an dits tan dool
la dippyduppy dull la roop uttyroopy la goorigan gook aya gittygangool...
" she sings quickly, the words remaining untranslated by Stacy because they're pretty much Finnish gibberish. "I can't remember the rest of the words, but good luck getting that song out of your head now."
bonnypiperlad: (hrmph2)

There's a lot of blinking coming from Jamie as she sings and he tries to wrap his head around the gibberish. "Och, are ye feeling okay? Because that's..."

He was going to say something along the lines that the song would never get stuck in his head. But he's still hearing the words, and he's afraid she may very well be right.

"...Verra catchy." After a moment's thought, he adds, "Maybe it's in the media library somewhere?" Because, if it is, maybe he'll be able to get it out of his head. He starts to whistle the tune, then breaks off, shaking his head.

"One of these days I'll learn not to ask."
