KARAOKE DANCE PARTY!!! [OPEN, COME GRAB FREE CR!]

Everyone had been so nice to Ryo since he had awoken a day prior. He wanted to show his appreciation to his friends and the crew, and get a chance to meet others. So, he walked back into the sensoriums and imagined a place. As he opened his eyes, there was the Milk Dipper. Wood finish, stars decorating the place, rough hewn wooden tables and the telescope in it's pedestal at the center. Everything was as it should be, except for one thing. Behind the counter, looking very confused, was a green-skinned demon who bore no resemblance to Airi. Ryo registered his shock as the demon spoke.

"This... is NOT my bar..." The green one said, his own shock evident. He looked at Ryo. "And you're not Peter..." Ryo, not knowing what to do, bowed quickly.

"I'm sorry, Oni-san, I just wanted to throw a party for everyone, with karaoke and dancing, and I didn't mean to summon you!" The demon shook his head, waving Ryo off.

"It's Lorne, and you had me at karaoke. Now, this place.... I like it. Kind of a kitsch-meets-class thing going on... It does need to be bigger, though..." Lorne snapped his fingers and the cafe expanded, now as large as an auditorium. The telescope pedestal sat firmly in the center of a well-polished dance floor, underneath a disco ball and lighting set up. To the left of the counter was a stage with a karoake set-up, and behind the counter was now a lot more than just coffee. Otherwise, the decor remained the same.

"Alright, Ryo-kun." Lorne said with a smile. "Give everyone the heads up and get this party started." Ryo nodded, amazed by the demon's abilities, and gave a call on the omnicomms.

[[ OOC: It's karaoke dance party time! Start a sub-thread with your character singing a song, socializing, or just being a wallflower, and let the CR flow! Especially great for newbies to meet folk and influence people!]]

You Can't See Me, Shhh

[identity profile] magetrouble.livejournal.com 2010-02-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Kala wasn't keen on coming, but went anyway, and stuck to the drinks and bits of food.  They were all singing, which still made her feel as if she wanted to find the bus and hide from the coming bugs.  But there weren't any bugs.  And this wasn't Antedis.  Furthermore, the bugs were gone.  Nonetheless, habits you'd been grown into (some by experience), died a hard death, and Kala shrank back against a wall, her expression solemn.

She was dressed once more in red and gold (http://www.voguefabricsstore.com/store/images/P/B4571lg.jpg), which seemed to be all that would come, no matter how much she though about her plantsuit.  Kala was not particularly thrilled, but at least the dress was wearable to the point where she could run in it if needed.  She sipped at tea, for now, and hid the best she could.

Ben was looking for a place to sit down when he noticed Kala in the corner. He wasn't much of a singer himself but was thinking of some of Dayplanner's music for later.

"Two chili fries," he said, and the food appeared as he picked them up and walked over. "Can I sit here with you?" inquired Ben. "I bring a peace offering of chili fries."

Blin sighed loudly as he came up behind her. "Sulking at a party again? Kala, lass, this is no way for a young lady to live." He had the charming smile of a man who was out to extort your money (the true nature of a busker, all things considered) and his arms crossed at her in mock disappointment. He was dressed in what he considered his 'uniform' - that same stupid hat he always had on the ship, but with worn jeans, a plain black t-shirt, and his ratty old brown topcoat. 100% wool, too.

"Honestly, I don't know what I'm going to do with ye."

Guybrush was late to the stage, but believe you me, he has quite the selection ready!

The wiry blonde pirate swaggered to the front, fluffing the trim of his blue coat and brushing back his messy pompadour with practiced efficiency. As the crowd quieted, Guybrush pulled at the microphone stand with his hook and took a deep, dramatic breath:

Oh…
There’s…
A…

Monkey in my pocket
And he’s stealing all my change,
His stare is blank and glassy
I suspect that he’s deraaaanged…

Another verse, anyone?

Ron's turn.

Once my old man spoke to good King Triton
And asked "Why all this senseless fightin?"
"Why can't we men express emotion?"
And now I've got a friend in the ocean...

Wyn walks onstage, dressed (http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:V63ZwHlytApCFM:http://www.marieclaire.com/cm/marieclaire/images/T6/MCXMC1008-vest-fashion-1-medium-new.jpg) in a white t-shirt and vest, skinny jeans, and boots. The song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJIFOywoheU) she's chosen is seasonal... sort of. Mostly, though, it's fun to sing-- and that's really what's important in karaoke, right?

"I'm not the prettiest girl in town
You're not the only boy with sullied clothes and a sullen frown
So to hell with valentines
To hell with perfume
To hell with chocolates, and picnics, and Sinatra tunes
'Cause while the rest of the girls are drowning in roses and songs he composes
And while the rest of the guys are all trying
All trying so hard

Let's go, let's crash the party
El Dorado on the lawn
hey hey hey!
Let's burn holes in the carpets
Kicking, shouting, dancing on the tables
All night long!

I'm not so good with subtlety
You wouldn't say that I'm the picture of urbanity
Never put much stock in suavity, courtesy, chivalry, gallantry or all that useless jewelry
And while the rest of the girls
still sigh for the night he was smiling politely
And while the rest of the guys are all trying
Oh, they're trying so hard

Let's go, let's crash the party
El Dorado on the lawn
Hey hey hey!
Let's burn holes in the carpet
Kicking, shouting, dancing on the tables
Hey hey hey!
All night long
All night long
Let's crash the party
All night long
All night long!

Will arrived late, as usual. It really sucked not being able to use the omnicomm system.. he really did need to get over to engineering soon (just as soon as he found it). But, at least he was here, where he could do what he did best: make an ass out of himself on stage.

He was dressed in what Ronin had called his 'uniform' back home... jeans, a t-shirt, his beaten up wool topcoat, and that stupid hat that even made it to the ship. He decided that before he did anything else, he was just going to sing. No guitar just yet.

That'd come later.

He cleared his throat. "Now, this is directed at no one in particular, but I think most of ye know where I'm coming from with this little ditty. I invite anyone who knows it, feel free to lament up here with me.

Well, I came into a scolding wife a few short years ago
And ever since I lead a life of misery and woe
My wife she is a tyrant around the room and in
Ah, she'd sell me to the devil for a galss or two of Gin.

Sure I'll get up and go to work as mild as any man
And she'll get up and dress herself and go and have her dram
And if I chance to say a word, it's well I know my doom
She'll follow me with the fire shovel up and down the room

And if the devil'd take her I'd thank him for his pain
I swear to God I'll hang me self If I get married again
And if the devil'd take her I'd thank him for his pain
Oh, I swear to God I'll hang me self if I get married again"

The sad part was, that was just one verse. Really, it'd be best if he had other people to continue the song, but if push came to shove, he'd just keep going himself. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lyb42m4hFg&feature=related)

Shawn is a man of many talents, and apparently one of them is orish drinking songs

When I get home at breakfast time she'll tap me on the head
When I come home at dinner time I'll find her drunk in bed
When I come home at supper time my patients I must stop
'Cause she drank what's in the teapot and I must drink the slops,

And if the devil'd take her I'd thank him for his pain
I swear to God I'll hang me self If I get married again
And if the devil'd take her I'd thank him for his pain
Oh, I swear to God I'll hang me self if I get married again

All things considered, there was only one song that kept running bits through Static's brain lately. So, of course, it was the one for him to sing. He got up on the stage, took a deep breath, and just went for it.

"I'm in over my head
They wanna try and build me up
So they can tear me down
I wish that I could be back there
But I'm writing here right now

They've taken everything that I've had to give and
They say it's over but man I'm still here livin
I don't know what to do, I think that maybe

I'm in over my head
Stuck in the red
Somethin they said
Makes me think that I'm in over my head
Over my head
Over my head

I've got to get away from here
And it couldn't be too soon
Cuz I see the stars are here with me
Like rockets to the moon

You take me everywhere that I've never been and
Show me the meaning of what life had to give and
I don't know what to say, I think that maybe

I'm in over my head
Lyin in her bed
Somethin she said
Makes me think that I'm in over my head
Over my head
Over my head"

Rose was not the loudest among the crowd, but she was probably the most enthusiastic. Arm encircled Virgil and pulled him close. A deep but soft kiss to his lips.

"Great job baby."

Having been successfully bribed by a certain imp, Billy was for all practical purposes coerced into singing another number tonight.

With his old guitar leaning against the stool, he instead calls in the synth---he's not learned this song well enough to play it yet.

"You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you've got a friend in me
Yeah, you've got a friend in me"

It's close to his old country style, but lighter, more fun---and an ode to his dear friends, one in particular. The singing's still not award-worthy, but slightly improved from the passable performance of last time. He's learning to breathe at the right times.

Oh my god, Toy Story! :D

[identity profile] madeofwyn.livejournal.com 2010-02-06 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
What Wyn lacks in singing ability, she more than makes up for in enthusiasm. It helps that she loves Toy Story and could probably sing this song in her sleep.

"You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
You got troubles
And I got them too
There isn't anything
I wouldn't do for you
We stick together, we can see it through
Cause you've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me.
"

And there's a weird little critter on the floor next to the stage. His skin is flashing all kind of wild colours and the smell coming off of him is quite a few notches more intense than too much perfume.
Specifically a rather cool blent of mint, vanilla and something that screams "Ocean".

Oh, and mind the utterly hero-worship-smitten look on his face. Seriously, it's the bastard child of "kid let loose in a candy shop", complete and utter adoration and Phear The Adorable.

Kang was enjoying himself, listening to the others sing. It was a bit of a window into what their worlds were like, and they were proving to be rather interesting. Good luck getting him to sing, though.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-02-06 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kaylee didn't know any of the songs that were being sung, but she was pleased enough with watching everyone's smiling faces that she didn't worry all that much about it. And even Kang was here, in the middle of the fun, even if he wasn't participating.

...why wasn't he participating? Kaylee sidled up next to him, drink in hand and smile on her face. "Heeeey Kang."

"This is a song that, well, describes me perfectly. My 'theme song' if you will." Shawn said.

In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
But why bounce around to the same damn song?
You'd rather run when you can't crawl...

I know, you know, that I'm not telling the truth.
I know, you know, they just don't have any proof.
Embrace the deception- learn how to bend,
Your worst inhibitions tend to psych you out in the end.

I know, you know....
I know, you know....
I know, you know....
I know, you know....

"Well played, sir, well played." Blin clapped politely at a measured pace, so as not to appear too enthused. Of course, his smile kind of gave it away.

Where there was a good time being had Kaylee couldn't be far behind. She'd settled herself down at one of the tables in the room with some decently strong drink. Occasionally, she was able to catch the melody of a song, and idly hummed along with it as best as she could keep up. Otherwise, her attention was divided between smiling at anyone who gave her a passing glance, and the bottle of brew in her hands.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Kaylee Frye was well on her way to being drunk.

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 05:21 am (UTC)(link)

Tora had eased her way into the sensorium turned club. The energy of the place was happy and alive. Smiling brightly she wound her way inside and listened to a number of songs before finding the courage to step up herself and take the stage.

"Hello! I don't know many of you, well not really in more than passing. My name is Tora and I hope I meet and get to know more of you all! But, um I guess I should sing now. I hope you like it."

It might not be what was expected, though does anyone ever really expect this?

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

With a cute little curtsy to the crowd Tora grinned her way off stage, blushing madly.

[identity profile] bears-omnitrix.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ben was grinning as he ascended the stage, thinking of what to sing. Initially he thought of Dayplanner but then reconsidered it.

"Well I'm Ben. And I guess I'm singing." said Ben into the microphone as he selected the appropriate song.

"o/` A voice like honey, no one else could fill his shoes
The time and the weather, the headlines and the local news
He lays it down with perfection and grace
He’s done by noon, he goes home to his place
Where he sleeps and he waits for the night

Just before midnight he gets up, gets out of bed
A can of Red Bull, a tab of X to clear his head
He shoots his cuffs, now he’s headed downtown
Picks up one life, puts another one down
And his body hums and the music’s playing

Dance, Soterios Johnson, dance
It’s a cold world, nobody understands
The feeling you can’t keep inside
Go, Soterios Johnson, go
All the club kids are watching your glowstick glow
With the light of a truth you can’t hide
That the news is the news, but the dance goes on forever o/`"

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Static had to fight the urge to sign along; it was such a good song. Catchy, too.

Instead, he settled for simply clapping loudly and yelling "Yeah, Ben!"

Dude'd earned a fist bump when he got off the stage.

Katara had some time to kill, and she was actually really happy to get up and sing something: and luckily, she had actually looked up some music that she thought would be fun. That, and there was no beer to drink, so she was pretty hyped up.

The fortune queen of New Orleans
brushing her cat in her black limousine
On the back seat were scratches
From the marks of men her fortune she had won
Couldn't see through the tinted glass
She said, "Home James" and he hit the gas
I followed her to some darkened room
She took my money, she said, "I'll be with you soon"

Dark lady laughed and danced
And lit the candles one by one
Danced to her gypsy music
Till her brew was done
Dark lady played black magic
Till the clock struck on the twelve
She told me more about me
Than I knew myself

She dealt two cards, a queen and a three
And mumbled some words
That were so strange to me
Then she turned up a two-eyed jack
My eyes saw red but the card
Still she said black
She said the man you love is secretly true
To someone else who is very close to you
My advice is that you leave this place
Never come back and forget you ever saw my face

So I ran home and crawled in my bed
I couldn't sleep because of all the things she said
Then I remembered her strange perfume
And how I smelled it once in my own room
So I sneaked back and caught her with my man
Laughing and kissing till they saw the gun in my hand
The next thing I knew they were dead on the floor
Dark lady would never turn a card up anymore

Love, loss, and revenge - a powerful ballad. Mulan applauds as she's been seeing the rest of the crowd doing all night.

"Katara, your voice is lovely."
