Meet-n-Greet

After being released from stasis, having the slime removed from their bodies and clothed in the creepy, pulsing leaf-suit that everyone wore, and being taken to the Weapons & Possessions lockers to collect their belongings, the new arrivals would find themselves standing in the Observation Deck. Round windows lined the fleshy walls, revealing the bright display of lights that was inter-dimensional travel. They would also discover that there were people--members of the command staff and crew that had woken earlier--waiting for them.

Sokka had, luckily, found several things of great usefulness in the pile of Stuff in Weapons & Possessions. The first, and most important was his space-sword, which was now strapped appropriately across his back. His belt and boomerang were there as well, along with his knife...so at least he was armed and ready to fight if he needed to.

He was pacing back and forth, occasionally glancing out of the Obs Deck windows uncertainly. Those were stars. But there was no way a ship could travel through the stars, right? That was just crazy. He was trying, unsuccessfully, not to think about the implications. He distracted himself by eying the other people already here. Who were they, and what did they want? At least Katara was here...he hovered protectively near his sister, using her presence to help distract himself from the rather disturbing questions that ran willy-nilly through his mind like a rampant mooselion.

Hey look. Naked mole rat. "Hi-hi." ...that talks.

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka stared at the creature for a moment. He leaned down, gently poking Rufus.

"What the...?"

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka yelped and jumped back, assuming a fighting pose.

"Talking animal!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka noticed the little animal, and was astounded. It talked! Even Momo couldn't do that.

"Don't be rude Sokka!" Katara said, turning her attention to the curious little animal. "Hey little guy. Do you know where we are?"

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka stared at Katara a moment, then waved an arm at Rufus.

"Katara, it talks. Don't you find that just a little weird? Maybe?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
"It's weird for us, not for him!" Katara snapped. "For all we know, the idea of bending might be magic to someone else. Who knows how things are here."

Her heart sunk hearing trapped. "Oh. Well. That's not good. What;s your name?"

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Wait? Trapped? And what's a spaceship! And yes, it's weird!" He grumbled, crossing his arms. This totally counted as weird.

The weapons locker held little for Katara, save for Gran-gran's betrothal necklace and a pouch for her water. She'd have to ask where the water was, if any on the ship. She was about to wander aimlessly when she spotted a familiar face coming toward her.

"Sokka!" She was glad to see him! For the first few minutes everything was so unfamiliar she thought she was close to losing it. But if Sokka were here, surely some of the others had to be too, right? She hugged him, then let him go. "I'm so glad you're here too! This place, its so incredible! I'm not a science guy like you, but I think its safe to say we're not in any of our nations."

She looked around at the others. "Let's ask them if they know anything about where we are! I think they were hatched too."

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Katara! Hey!" He returned the hug, almost crushing the younger girl against him. At least she was here. And now that she was here, it was his job to make sure she stayed safe and sound. Not that he was going to say that out loud. She would start talking and blabbing about how she could take care of herself and so on and so forth and he would never hear the end of it. So he just did his best to convey that protectiveness and love though his hug.

He released her after a moment, nodding.

"Yeah, I don't think we're anywhere near the four nations, Katara. This is seriously, seriously weird. I mean...I've never seen anything like this, ever!"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Me neither," Katara said, noticing the immediate protectiveness. At this point, she wasn't going to shrug him off. Even SHE didn't know what to expect,m and with no water, it wasn't as if she could defend herself now. "Did you get a look at the things we popped out of? This can't be anything like where we're from. Actually, from what I've seen, its like that alien thing Toph made our sword out of."

Katara took a breath. "Did you see anyone we know?"

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I got out of there as fast as I could," Sokka admitted, shivering a bit. "That room? Super creepy. Creepy beyond reason, even."

He pulled his sword part way from it's scabbard, examining the blade and comparing it to the walls for a moment.

"Uh, sorry to say, whatever this place is, it's almost like it's alive. Nothing like the rock I made my space sword out of..." He paused a moment, then shook his head.

"I haven't..."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I ran too, but...I figured it might be a good idea if I see hat kind of place we're in. I wanted it to be a crazy adventure we were pulled to, but this is nothing we've ever seen. I mean, something was talking to me...in my mind."

Sokka was always the first to discount something that sounded vaguely magical, but it was the truth.

"I'm with you. It definitely feels alive. We don't even need Toph to verify that. What I want to know is, why us? Why here? And if we're here, where is Aang?"

Luna halts in her slow walk, eyes fixed on an odd instrument that she has never seen before, but has heard of through an odd chain of events after one of the Muggle Studies class did a unit on Muggle toys and games from around the world.

"You have a boomerang," she states, staring intently at it for a long moment before looking up at the person equipped with said instrument, her gaze expectant.

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka blinks at Luna, pulling out the mentioned weapon.

"Uh...yep!"

[identity profile] isee-snorkacks.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've only seen a picture of a boomerang. It's very pretty." Her eyes are fixed on the instrument in his hand, and she barely spares him a glance, fascinated as she it.

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pretty?" He's incredulous. No one has ever described his boomerang as 'pretty' before.

"It's a tool and a weapon. How is it pretty?"

[identity profile] isee-snorkacks.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Luna is unfazed by his incredulity.

"There are people in the world who believe a refined and visible level of functionality and precision to be the epitome of beauty. I just think it's a nice color, though."

River was passing by when she picked up Sokka's thoughts. She stopped mid-glide and turned to look at him in a move that looked a bit more like a dance than a step.

"They really are. Stars."

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka blinked at River. How...what...?

"But that's impossible!"

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-08-01 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Isn't. You've never been in the black." It isn't a question, really.

[identity profile] theregularguy.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"...What's 'the black' mean?" Sokka questions.

[identity profile] reaverkiller.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Outer space," River replies succinctly.
