Welcome to Orongo
Once those who decided to go along on the mission were gathered on the Obs Deck and had time to go over the mission briefing, the detachment procedures began.
As with the missions before, the doors to the Obs Deck closed before it detached itself from Stacy, tethered by a massive umbilical cord. Those who had been on missions before would find the experience familiar if still somewhat unpleasant, but for those of whom this was their first mission, the sudden lack of gravity and lurching feeling as they entered the atmosphere would come as a surprise.
Thankfully though, the ride was quickly over as they landed safely on the planet below, the gravitational dampeners of the Obs Deck gently dropping the crew members back on their feet. One of the walls opened up, forming a ramp to the ground below. There was a sudden, slight gust of air as the door opened as the thick air rushed in. Even so, the air felt quite warm and refreshing.
Looking outside, the crew would see the bright yellow sun looming overhead, quite close in comparison to the sun on most planets. A handful of small, silver clouds dotted the blueish purple sky.
Ahead of them stood a rather impressive looking plateau, surrounded by a tall, ornate stone wall which was covered in tribal markings. Directly ahead was a large gate through the wall, with several small stone buildings in front of it. Beyond the gates, a larger settlement could be seen. Surrounding the plateau and covering the surrounding region were numerous strange, blue and purplish trees and plants.

There was gesturing of his hands. "You just got possessed and all your latent hostility towards me almost had you killing me--not that I blame you at all, of course! But that's hardly--I think that's hardly healthy at all, to be marrying before working out that hostility. And I don't want to treat it as such a frivolous--"
Megamind cut himself off, because Thar Be Feelings that way. How did you explain to a woman that didn't remember your relationship that you didn't want to fake!marry her when after months of dating, you'd had inkling thoughts of a possible future where you'd possibly consider the real thing?
"More to the point, I was saying I'll probably be waiting outside, because I sincerely doubt--" He cut off into a disappointed huff. "If there's some sort of ceremony to decide how harmonious your 'spirit' is or what have you, that determines your worthiness to enter this place, then I sincerely doubt that--"
Another huff, and his face fell. His voice was quieter when he spoke again, more subdued.
He'd only been good for a very, very short amount of time, comparatively.

However, her silence didn't hide the spreading flush of embarrassment and indignation rising across her cheeks. By the time he was finished she was looking and feeling thoroughly humiliated.
But, Roxanne is a woman of strong stock, and instead of getting defensive and snappish, she nods quietly, then holds up a finger.
"Okay - first point. I wasn't suggesting we marry complete strangers. That makes a weird situation even more awkward and worse." Second finger.
"I don't view it as frivolous - but to be honest, I'm not sure anything on an alien planet like this would be as...binding as we might think." Still, marriage was marriage. "I'm not trying to trivialize it, if that's what you're thinking." She looked away, then dropped her hands. "You're...a good person at heart, Megamind. I don't think length of time matters." She swallowed.
"As far as I go...the lack of communication between us was my fault. I'm sorry. I..." Roxanne looked irritated.
"I didn't know how to bring it up, or even what I would say. That's my fault." And admitting you're wrong is one of the hardest things to do.
"If...you don't want to do it, then we won't. I don't blame you at all." Heck, she wouldn't want too marry herself either. Not with the strange emotional baggage and apparent pent up bitterness and frustration. She felt like a terrible person, and had ever since it happened.

"No, no, no it's just--I'm not blaming you for anything! You were possessed, and all your anger towards me is justified! If anything, I'm angry at myself for earning your ire--and it's--"
Another annoyed huff. This dealing-with-other-people thing was so complicated sometimes. He took her by the hands.
"Ceremony is ceremony, however binding or not-binding it is." A sigh. "If I were to marry you, I'd want it to be the real thing...after all the problems were worked out, after the prerequisite adequate length of time people court one another, when it was the right time, and if we were sure it was the right thing to do."
A pause. "Then again, I don't want to have to fake!marry some insufferably annoying stranger just to get through the mission."

It had to have had something to feed off of.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to, I wouldn't want to hurt you, I care-"
Then he has her hands, and she looks at him, surprised. He really wasn't angry with her, was he? Quite the opposite, it seemed, especially considering that he would want the real thing.
Absently, Roxanne feels her hands tighten around his, and her eyes narrowed.
"I don't want you marrying some stranger, fake or not."
no subject
"Okay, okay, so I guess we'll fake!marry each other, just to avoid the unpleasantness of marrying a stranger."
She was absolutely lovely, and he wouldn't put it past some cretin on board to try to get handsy or all up in her grill or something. While he knew she certainly would smack that person one, it might just make for a less stressful mission overall, and one that had less of him ray-gunning someone, if that were avoided. They still didn't even know that many people here to ask anyone else, and they had to do this, right?
"And it wouldn't count obviously, but at the very least, it might give us more time to just...talk."
They seemed to be doing a lot of that lately, but then they did a lot of that in general. In those months Roxanne didn't remember, there had been hours upon hours of talking. In that time he'd been pretending to be Bernard, talking was nearly all they did, barring those comfortable snuggly silences he so thoroughly enjoyed.
"We still have to get used to this. Being around one another. Without me pretending to be someone else."
And the whole thing sounded...cozy, as far as places went, if it was geared for all this.
"I think that sounds like a plan, right? One that isn't even an evil plan."
no subject
...Right?
Right.
"I'm...getting there. If we can avoid being possessed by demon darksouls...I think we may actually have a shot." She smiled wryly, dropping one of his hands but intertwining her fingers with the hand she still held.
"You don't have to sound so excited about all this." Teasing. It was a start.
no subject
Long pause.
"Okay, I am mildly excited. This is the first time anyone would've been so much as willing to even fake marry me before. It's slightly exciting. Just a little bit. Not to be, you know, reviled by someone."
no subject
"It...well. This will be an...experience." First mission: get married.
Naturally.
