Welcome to Orongo

Once those who decided to go along on the mission were gathered on the Obs Deck and had time to go over the mission briefing, the detachment procedures began.

As with the missions before, the doors to the Obs Deck closed before it detached itself from Stacy, tethered by a massive umbilical cord. Those who had been on missions before would find the experience familiar if still somewhat unpleasant, but for those of whom this was their first mission, the sudden lack of gravity and lurching feeling as they entered the atmosphere would come as a surprise.

Thankfully though, the ride was quickly over as they landed safely on the planet below, the gravitational dampeners of the Obs Deck gently dropping the crew members back on their feet. One of the walls opened up, forming a ramp to the ground below. There was a sudden, slight gust of air as the door opened as the thick air rushed in. Even so, the air felt quite warm and refreshing.

Looking outside, the crew would see the bright yellow sun looming overhead, quite close in comparison to the sun on most planets. A handful of small, silver clouds dotted the blueish purple sky.

Ahead of them stood a rather impressive looking plateau, surrounded by a tall, ornate stone wall which was covered in tribal markings. Directly ahead was a large gate through the wall, with several small stone buildings in front of it. Beyond the gates, a larger settlement could be seen. Surrounding the plateau and covering the surrounding region were numerous strange, blue and purplish trees and plants.

"You as well, Domalai," Cargn returned the greeting warmly. "Of course, you know why we're here."

Ronnae's eyes grew wide with excitement as the doors open. She lets out a small cheery yelp as she rushes outside, taking the scenery in. She looked in amazement, who would have thought being in a ship for a long while would make you miss the 'real' thing so much? Even if this wasn't her planet she was happy to experience it nonetheless. Her face was beaming as she looked around.

She closed her eyes and looked up, letting the feel of the place take hold.

Ronnae eyed the creature curiously. She had half expected to see a draenei of sorts, considering they where the 'aliens' she knew of... But then she thought that was pretty naive and blushed remembering that to azeroth, part of her heritage was alien as well.

Doing her best to get over her shyness and not seem rude in this new planet. She stepped up and bowed respectfully. "I... I'm Ronnae, Ronnae 'Mash Belore Ryllos. It's a great honor to be allowed on your planet."

Querl turned to Cargn. "Another group?"

Billy followed a little more cautiously, observing the ships and travelers as they walked. It seemed that almost everyone walking away was happy, even if he couldn't read every face accurately. Were cheering chemicals manufactured here?

He eventually caught up to Ronnie, watching her joy at the exploration of a new planet take hold. "You're certainly optimistic about this."

"I have been quite open with the fact that I have been awake far longer than anyone else on this crew," Cargn replied. "I have been on other attempts to retrieve the artifact from this planet with previous crews."

Fate's curiosity was definitely piqued when the crew finally stepped out onto the planet. The surroundings were different, but the atmosphere, the other ships and groups of happy aliens milling about... it almost reminded her of Zokez II.

Not that it was a bad thing, of course, but it really wasn't helping the mystery of the "rituals of judgment" they were supposed to be going through.

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
She turned on her heel and smiled up at him. "Well we have to right? If we come here all down and worried and cautious we might give the wrong idea no? We came here diplomatically right?" She asked curiously.

With that she smiled back and thanked him again, stepping back to let the others do what they had to do.

"I suppose so. I guess it's been just been so rare that a mission has gone completely well that I can't help but worry."

The scenery sure was pretty, though. He could stand to look at it for a long while longer. "I'll try not to worry until we know what's happening."

"And yet you could have given us a more thorough briefing. Were you attempting to retrieve the same artifact?" Querl's tone was the same as always overtly neutral with an undercurrent of disdain.

Oh, questions. Does he have them!

The Doctor heads right for his square-headed friend, not seeming to even register the height difference aside from stooping just a little. He doesn't hold out his hand to shake; new culture (or new to him) and sometimes seemingly harmless greetings on Earth can be quite insulting to other galactic civilized societies. He assumes it's the same for other dimensions, so the Doctor displays some tact. The Doctor stops a few feet from the priest-looking sort instead of invading any personal space, all smiles.

He is, however, careful not to bare his teeth. Like he said, some thing's can be taken as a threat when you're in certain areas of the universe.

"Lovely. I'm the Doctor. That's probably Jamie McCrimmon behind me with the kilt (don't forget to compliment him on it if you talk to him, there's a good man)," The Doctor jerks his thumb over his shoulder, waving it toward what he assumes is a general Jamie McCrimmon-ish direction. "Loving your planet so far, it's very beautiful. Big wall. Often crowded with visitors, is it?"

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
She gave his hand a reassuring squeeze and smiled. "If anything I'm here right?" She blushed a bit before turning quickly, trying not to show her embarrassment. She looked out into the scene again.

"Indeed I could have, but it would have been a meaningless attempt. There's nothing one can really do to prepare oneself for the Moai's rituals."

"And yes, the very same artifact. They are quite...picky with it, I suppose you could say. It is quite important."

Billy smiled so warmly that he might be mistaken for one of the surrounding aliens who knew what exactly happened here.

"And I'm here. We'll face it together."

She blushed and smiled with more certainty. "Yup!"

Cagalli was already impressed with the planet - and despite the unfamiliarity of the sky, the clouds, the looming sun, it was nostalgic. She knew what it was like to miss being planetside, but never to this degree.

Of course, she had questions. They all did. But first... "Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Domalai."

Now he was getting snippy. "And you didn't feel the need to tell us? Knowing the details of the previous events could only help us in our current attempts. No wonder you failed to retrieve it."

Jamie really should have warned him about the Observation Deck detaching the way it did.

But honestly, that would've just ruined the fun.

As his legs went out from under him, the Doctor instinctively reached out to check to make sure Jamie wasn't floating off on him, grabbing onto an arm and then a shoulder. He might've even caught a touch of kilt as he alternatively tried to get a better look of the rushing descent through the alien atmosphere and at the same time make sure Jamie was right where he left him...relatively speaking. The ride was thrilling (he'd even go so far as so say Thrilling, because it warranted that extra capital T) and the Doctor was grinning from ear to ear as they finally landed. His boots clunked back onto the deck.

Straightening his jacket -- bowtie didn't get lost in the journey, excellent -- the Doctor wasn't quite the first one to make planetfall. He didn't mind, sauntering out. Or he meant to saunter out; there was a slight bounce to his step that was too excited to simply be casual sauntering. The Doctor stopped a few yards away from the Obs Deck, inspecting first the detached, huge pod, and then the ground, scuffing at it with his boot after taking a good look at the buildings in the distance.
