Welcome to Orongo

Once those who decided to go along on the mission were gathered on the Obs Deck and had time to go over the mission briefing, the detachment procedures began.

As with the missions before, the doors to the Obs Deck closed before it detached itself from Stacy, tethered by a massive umbilical cord. Those who had been on missions before would find the experience familiar if still somewhat unpleasant, but for those of whom this was their first mission, the sudden lack of gravity and lurching feeling as they entered the atmosphere would come as a surprise.

Thankfully though, the ride was quickly over as they landed safely on the planet below, the gravitational dampeners of the Obs Deck gently dropping the crew members back on their feet. One of the walls opened up, forming a ramp to the ground below. There was a sudden, slight gust of air as the door opened as the thick air rushed in. Even so, the air felt quite warm and refreshing.

Looking outside, the crew would see the bright yellow sun looming overhead, quite close in comparison to the sun on most planets. A handful of small, silver clouds dotted the blueish purple sky.

Ahead of them stood a rather impressive looking plateau, surrounded by a tall, ornate stone wall which was covered in tribal markings. Directly ahead was a large gate through the wall, with several small stone buildings in front of it. Beyond the gates, a larger settlement could be seen. Surrounding the plateau and covering the surrounding region were numerous strange, blue and purplish trees and plants.

"It is. Never thought I'd be able to see something like this," Hoshi said as she looked around at everything.

The warmth was also aiding her arm, too.

"I haven't been outside Fuuto much, so the nice open landscape is something I'm enjoying as well," replied Phillip as he shifted his book to the other arm. "I suppose the ritual however will be quite enjoyable, if a place like this is peaceful enough."

"I think the only place I went to that looks like this is maybe Okinawa or Taiwan," Hoshi answered.

"I wonder what the rituals will be like..." she added on after a moment's pause.

"Although the plant-life is of different shades than usually expected," added Phillip, pausing to look over the plant life. How interesting. He couldn't wait to add these new experiences to the Library.

"Possibly something we're least expecting," he remarked, thinking for a long moment or at least making a show of it. "The most unexpected things are the most predictable."

"Are you going to add this to the Gaia Library, Phillip? I could gather some specimens for you to put in there," Hoshi offered as she observed the plants with him. This was neat to do!

"And I don't suppose you have any answers as to what it is?"

Phillip laughed a little. "I can't actually ADD to it physically. Just mentally. The Gaia Library--" and Phillip tapped his forehead, "Is in here."

"I have my suspicions but data-mining this world with limited resources has been difficult at best. The grip to the worlds' knowledge is tedious. But I will find out with everyone else."

Now that put things into perspective with Hoshi. "I never thought of it like that, Phillip," she said as she grinned at him.

She nodded at his next sentence. "Right! We just gotta keep being positive!"

"Mmm. Where else would I store the knowledge of the Earth? It's easier this way."

He smiled a little. Well, looks like the announcements were getting there. He couldn't wait to see the look on everyone's faces.
