Welcome to Orongo

Once those who decided to go along on the mission were gathered on the Obs Deck and had time to go over the mission briefing, the detachment procedures began.

As with the missions before, the doors to the Obs Deck closed before it detached itself from Stacy, tethered by a massive umbilical cord. Those who had been on missions before would find the experience familiar if still somewhat unpleasant, but for those of whom this was their first mission, the sudden lack of gravity and lurching feeling as they entered the atmosphere would come as a surprise.

Thankfully though, the ride was quickly over as they landed safely on the planet below, the gravitational dampeners of the Obs Deck gently dropping the crew members back on their feet. One of the walls opened up, forming a ramp to the ground below. There was a sudden, slight gust of air as the door opened as the thick air rushed in. Even so, the air felt quite warm and refreshing.

Looking outside, the crew would see the bright yellow sun looming overhead, quite close in comparison to the sun on most planets. A handful of small, silver clouds dotted the blueish purple sky.

Ahead of them stood a rather impressive looking plateau, surrounded by a tall, ornate stone wall which was covered in tribal markings. Directly ahead was a large gate through the wall, with several small stone buildings in front of it. Beyond the gates, a larger settlement could be seen. Surrounding the plateau and covering the surrounding region were numerous strange, blue and purplish trees and plants.

"And yet you could have given us a more thorough briefing. Were you attempting to retrieve the same artifact?" Querl's tone was the same as always overtly neutral with an undercurrent of disdain.

"Indeed I could have, but it would have been a meaningless attempt. There's nothing one can really do to prepare oneself for the Moai's rituals."

"And yes, the very same artifact. They are quite...picky with it, I suppose you could say. It is quite important."

Now he was getting snippy. "And you didn't feel the need to tell us? Knowing the details of the previous events could only help us in our current attempts. No wonder you failed to retrieve it."

"I did mention my previous attempts to retrieve it several times during the briefing, and gave information I felt was necessary. It is not my fault you weren't listening."

Touche, Cargn. Touche.

"With everyone gathered around it was hard enough to determine what one person was saying." He never cared much for crowds. "You should have made more of an effort to educate everyone." Hm, perhaps he should set up some sort of speakers for future occasions. "I am more concerned with your deliberately withholding information." It was just too much like him for comfort.

Also, Brainy had to know everything. That was just how it worked.

Ronnae tentatively piped up from nearby, not wanting to arise any hostilities.
"W-well sir Cargn di-did say that if you knew about the rituals, you wouldn't be able to participate in them... Then we the mission would fail b-before we started." She had her hood up at the moment, trying to keep from getting too much attention.

Cargn grinned.

"I admit, it is quite amusing watching these young people get worked up over something so simple."

"Or it is just Querl being Querl..." Nura said next to Ronnae, looking annoyed.

Ronnae blushed heavily and quickly tried to lower her gaze trying to hide her embarrassment. She seemed like she was about to say something and thought better of it. Staying silent instead, fidgeting a bit.

"You'll have to forgive me, sir." Nura said. "I forgot that Querl has no censor system over what comes out of his mouth." Yes. That was meant to be a dig.

Querl's voice went softer as he responded to Nura. Relatively softer. "Information is essential, Nura. To not go into a situation with all of the information at your disposal you may as well be blind."

"I'd rather not get shot at the first thing we arrive, dear." She spoke in a hush tone below the others. "They'll tell us what we need to hear soon. Patience, my dear grindwump, is essential as well."

"Patience is a virtue anyhow," remarked Ben who had managed to grab a smoothie before arrival. He was sucking on it calmly. "I'd think it would be easier for you guys to do stuff with that anyhow."
