Cascade [Open party time!]

Billy had just launched another portal in that maze of mazes, exhaustion setting in. Surely this time he would land on another moving platform of death?

Nope, just the exterior of the finished bathhouses. All polished, systems running, and just about ready to open! Given how sore and exhausted he was, that sounded like an excellent idea at the moment.

With a quick message to the rest of the crew, he set out the 'Open' sign for the first time and took advantage of his owner status---the prime waterfall spot could be his!

((ooc: The bathhouses are now open! Feel free to mingle around, relax, and have a party. Or cause trouble, but that might invite more trouble. Just start a subthread with your character's location and have fun. For reference there are individual showers in front, followed by hot tubs centrally located, saunas further back, and private baths along the side. The showers, tubs, and saunas have smaller sex-segregated units along with a central group unit that's larger.))

Sauna, Girls' Side

Kanaya hadn't been sure what to make of the concept of a public bathhouse. She'd grown up in a desert, and even within her landscaped oasis, water had been a luxury. The baths were tempting, but she decided to stick with something somewhat less alien for the time being: the saunas.

Having put away her plantsuit and taken a towel, Kanaya sat in the girls'-side sauna, eyes closed as she soaked in the steam heat. It was a relaxing sensation, but it was so strange that she wasn't sure how much relaxation she'd really be able to manage.

Well, it was always nice to meet new people as Mindy, right? Hit Girl didn't need/couldn't afford to have a whole gaggle of friends, but there didn't seem to be a reason for Mindy to be as reclusive. Better to have as many friends as she could, and that would be, since she was in the girl's side for the moment, in the form of a girl.

Or at this moment, a girl troll.

"Yo," Mindy greeted. "How's it going?"

Kanaya's eyes fluttered open as she heard the voice of a new arrival. "Hello," she said, trying not to look slightly startled by the human. "And it is going... well enough." That wasn't technically true, but there was no reason for her to explain that much. "And yourself?"

"Eh, can't complain," she said, crossing her legs casually. "As well as you can get on a ship that took you from an exploding world, I guess. I figure this place is a nice way to forget all that for a little while though."

"It is definitely different," admitted Kanaya, although her grasp on what constituted 'different' from the norm of life aboard Stacy was still rather shaky. "Are there many amenities of this sort here?" No sense hiding that she was new, really.

"No," Mindy replied, "And that was why they created it to begin with. I mean yeah, you have the Sensoriums, but its pretty much a way to fool your mind, you don't really actually have it happen. That's why I'm glad that Engineering guy Billy did this. It's pretty bad ass."

Kanaya had no idea whatsoever whether "badass" was a common human term of endearment, but she nodded just the same. "It is a remarkable feat of engineering. Where did he get the water? Does the ship have some reservoir?" Why that reservoir would be used for a bathhouse and not for, say, the toilets, she couldn't say, but it was worth asking!

"From what I could tell, he asked the Stacy ship for the water and she gave it up, and then he had help. I think the water girl, the magic elf and a few other people to hep design the place. I think they did a pretty good job though."

She paused. "Best way to get something like water is to ask the ship directly, actually."

"People keep telling me that, but is it really that easy to simply ask the ship for things? How does it work? And... did you just say magic elf?"

Strictly speaking, looking at it completely rationally, there was no reason to assume that there wouldn't be a magic elf here. It was completely possible. It was also deeply, well, Flarpy.

"As far as I know, yeah, but seeing as I don't really trust the ship, I haven't really tried it myself. I assume you just address Stacy through the Omnicomms. And yeah, I said magic elf. Maybe more than one, I dunno. Tons of superheroes from comics too, if you wanna get technical."

"I know I shouldn't be surprised," replied Kanaya. "Forgive me; I am new on the ship, and it is all a touch overwhelming at times." She wasn't even going to ask what a superhero was. "There seems to be a great deal of variety in the crew -- in roles, not just species."

"Hey, I'm the last person you have to ask forgiveness from," Mindy said. "I'm learning all of this stuff too. I maybe have been here a few months more, but hell, it takes a period of adjustment to really get into all of this. And yeah: zombies, mutants, humans, meta humans. There's no real way of keeping track of them all. You kinda have to bluster through it."

[identity profile] alwaysamoirail.livejournal.com 2011-01-14 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad to hear it's complicated for everyone," admitted Kanaya. "Er, who are you, by the way? I do not think I've seen you before." Not that she'd seen most people, but she couldn't recall seeing this girl even in passing at the meetup.

"Well, I tend to stick by myself," she half lied, "but my name is Mindy Macready. It is pretty bad though: there's a lot of people around here, and the rules seem to change wherever you turn."

Re: Sauna, Girls' Side

[identity profile] alwaysamoirail.livejournal.com 2011-01-14 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
"The rules?" Kanaya blinked; nobody'd really mentioned any rules, besides the fact that the ship was watching and listening, which was enough to dissuade most antisocial behavior. "What sorts of rules?"

Re: Sauna, Girls' Side

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-01-14 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't mean actual physical rules," Mindy said, "though there are a few, of course, since we do have a ship captain and all of that. I mean things here tend to change on a random basis: things attack you, magic spells might prop up, the kind of shit you expect to see when all these kinda random sort of people merge."

Re: Sauna, Girls' Side

[identity profile] alwaysamoirail.livejournal.com 2011-01-15 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I see," said Kanaya, still thoughtful. "Is there any way to tell when these sorts of things happen? The omnicomm network, perhaps?"

Re: Sauna, Girls' Side

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"It usually helps, but sometimes things can happen before we know it. The Comm network is a good option to finding out though. I can tell you that whoever is in charge or whatever try to tell you as soon as they can when bad shit goes down, but they can be really slow on the uptake too."

That and she barely trusted the council or the ship captain to tell any9ne the truth, but that was another story.
