Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"So it's sort of like a combination between a computer and a h'one that ehhif use," he muttered.

Studying the omnicomm, he proceeded to begin speaking silently to it in the Speech. Obligingly it opened up the network for him, and he began to page through the options.

Alex had gotten used to seeing strange things, but seeing someone talk to a device- save those living ones that have the forms of people- and having it respond, without any seeming calibration or anything. That was new. "I-it is... b-but... How are you...?"

He threw Alex another feline look, this one utterly smug and superior - it was one that anybody who had encountered a cat for a period of time probably recognized. It meant something along the lines of, 'because I'm better than you,' though Arhu didn't at all say that out loud. He wasn't that crass.

"Everything alive understands the Speech, the language that wizards work in," he said patiently. "And everything is alive in one form or another, though it may not be life as we understand."

Alex blinked and nodded, pretending to have a better sense of understanding than he actually did. "O-okay... That makes sense I-I g-guess..." He smiled nervously, not entirely comprehending how the Comms were alive, but, hey, it worked. Why knock it?

Unfortunately, the look went far over Alex's head. He was used to rat looks, not cat looks. Even then, the humanoid subtle communication of body language was just something Alex didn't have a full grasp on. A person could have given him that look and he wouldn't have known much better. "W-well, there's some other l-little functions, l-like a file viewer an' e-editor." He felt far more comfortable explaining how the things in the device worked.

"If I wanted to get in contact with you, or you wanted to contact me, how would that work?" He didn't go further in-depth on the way that different things could be alive. The omnicomm was actually very easy to convince to go through the menus, actually; it wanted to be used for communication, wanted to be able to do its function well.

"W-well, you c-can either lock a text post, or you c-can u-use the c-comm ring they gave you. Jus'... think of who you wanna c-contact, and speak." He began spinning the one that he wore on his finger, "I-I don' much like t-talkin' though, so unless it's an' absolute e-emergency, I u-use the omnicomm..."
