Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Hiccup still stayed behind the couch.

"Do you eat people?"

Bluh! No thank you, Hiccup.

"N-no! ...Do you eat trolls?"

"Do I look like I eat trolls?"

Did he look capable of even taking one down?

Looks can be deceiving. Tavros has a very cute roleplay buddy his age who rides her lusus out into the wilds and then tears large beasts limb from limb. So no, he wasn't going to assume anything of this skinny kid, even if he does look like a strong enough breeze could take him out.

"Well... no," Tavros eventually confesses, "but I, uhh, I don't think I look like I'd eat humans, either. So I guess we'll call this one a draw?"

"Okay. I guess it's a draw."

Hiccup slowly ventured out from behind the meat-couch, and now that he wasn't running and diving, Tavros would get the chance to see his left leg. The plantsuit ended just below his knee, as if it registered the rest of the leg wasn't skin that needed to be covered, and the reason it registered that was because his leg was made of metal from right under the knee down. It seemed to work like a normal leg, and his ankle flexed normally.

The boy ventured closer, cautiously, and then gestured to the chair.

"What is that? Your roll-ey chair thing. That looks handy."

Tavros glances briefly at the prosthetic. Not bad craftsmanship. Hiccup must be a higher blood. Not for the first time, Tavros really wishes he'd been able to get at his Taurus symbol shirt, just to avoid these caste clashes. Hopefully nobody will be too mad at him when they find out.

"My wheelchair?"

Hiccup gets a demonstration as Tavros backs up, rolls forward again, and turns to face him more fully.

"I guess, maybe, it's not so bad."

Hiccup noticed the glance at his leg and briefly, unconsciously stepped back, sort of hiding the one leg behind the other as much as he could. Leave it to the socially awkward Viking to stare at someone's wheelchair while hiding his prosthetic leg, but it was self-consciousness ahoy when it came to this kid. He couldn't stand like that forever, though, so he just...stopped, taking a more normal stance again.

"I'm picking the most awkward thing to focus on, though aren't I. That's pretty much me all over. First it's someone's species, then their infirmities, and then and only then do I finally get to introductions."

Waving his hands emphatically in a frustrated gesture, he coached himself, "Introductions, first. First."

Turning back to Tavros, he said, "I'm awkward. I'm also Hiccup, by the way. Weird name, I know, but my people think ugly names are supposed to scare off goblins and...well. You. Trolls."

He stepped forward and held out his hand. He wasn't sure if trolls did handshakes, and even his people didn't seem to do them as readily as some of the people on the ship, but it was worth a shot.

"Guess I'll have to chalk the ugly name thing up as a old wives' tale, huh?"

Socially awkward dorks unite. Tavros may have interjected a baffled "Uhhh..." as Hiccup blathers on and takes a moment to talk to himself, but other than that he watches the nervous display quietly, looking a little confused.

And yes Tavros will shake his hand. Maybe the gesture's not as common on Alternia either, but humans seem to respond well to it, and the troll is trying to be accommodating.

"I don't know... maybe? Hiccup isn't that weird, uh, I guess. Though, um, I'm not really all that scared of it, so, I, guess it doesn't exactly work."

And it's only after the handshake that Tavros remembers he probably should have taken the opportunity to give his name instead of insulting this guy's. Good one, Toreadumbass.

"Oh, and, uhhh, my name's Tavros. Sorry..."
