Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Beastboy smiled sympathetically as she lamented, he hadn't been fully aware of it but something in him could sense a kindred crime fighter even when she'd been hiding it. Moving on however...

"Well after I arrived we had shore leave for awhile on a planet, and then I got kidnapped but I'll explain that in a minute. The bad guys who are these big bug monsters called OHM attacked the planet and...well you wouldn't say we one so much as survived." He sighed rubbing the back of his head.

"I was snatched up by this crazy computer in the ship that randomly scoops crew up and throws them into these mazes. Apparently it's really important for our survival that she do it but it's kind of annoying. Also just recently this weird sickness broke out among the crew and it's been making people like...crazy with rage. I guess we're dealing with that too. I haven't gotten sick yet but I was helping to subdue a few people who were so they could be treated."

And all things considered, that was only what had gone on while he'd been on the ship.

"I heard about the alien guys," Mindy said, and already her heart was plummeting. So they had at least fight these thins to begin with, and they only just barely survived, even with all their super powers? That didn't speak well for them, and she was sure she was only getting the tip of the iceberg here. "The Ohm. What do they look like? How do they fight? Do we at least have some decent way of knowing how we can fight them off? I'm only a kid, I don't know how effective I'd be unless I knew how you guys defend yourself."

In other words, did you actually need super powers to kick their asses? One wouldn't think so if that Stacy ship brought her here to begin with. And as she started to hear the next part of the conversation, she started to get even more bothered. The AI thing was bad enough: Stacy was a trip, but now computers made you run mazes? What the hell kind of place was this?

"Is it, like, a virus, or something you just get at random? How do you know you even have it? I mean, from the looks of things people have a lot to get angry about. How do you even tell the difference?"

Truthfully, she was getting filled with rage, and who could blame her? This place was out of some bad fan fiction crossover.

"Dude you are totally pro about this." Beastboy laughed getting bombarded with questions "As for the OHM yeah it's kinda rough. There are a bunch of different types that fight different ways. See that guy there?" He pointed across the room to a dragon man, "Scales there teaches a combat class and he gave me the rundown on the big bad bugs. He can do the same for you."

There was a gleam in his eye and a wink, "Though if you were planning on dropping by the Outsiders headquarters we could fill you in there too, maybe take you to the Sensoriums and give you a training round." He paused and added, "Sensoriums, think like, Halodeck."

"As for the sickness, uncontrollable rage is the most obvious factor, also fever and some other symptoms, if one of us in here had it they'd already be going ape." And to emphasize his stupid sense of humor he turned into an ape for a second grinning like a dork at Mindy.

"Dude, I just woke up on a strange ship, out of a snot pod naked, with some crazy ship talking into my head. The only way I wouldn't have a bunch of questions is if I came here lobotomized."

She was really glad to hear about the Ohm, but when Beastboy pointed out the very large Dragon, there was no way that Mindy could control her mouth. "Holy SHIT its a FUCKING dragon!" She then covered her mouth, looking at Beastboy.

"Um, sorry. My parents really don't like when I use language like this," she lied, "But it comes out every once and awhile, comes from living in the city. And seriously, where I'm from? Dragons aren't just strolling around like its normal."

Sensoriums. Holodeck. Dad would have loved this place.

But that wasn't something she needed to think about, not with a lump forming at the throat about it. She was passed this really.

She shook her head. "Yup, I remember you all right. Still kinda a cornball, but lovable."

[identity profile] changelingdude.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Beastboy shifted back and wiggled his ears with a grin, "Aww thanks." He winked, "And don't worry about the cursing, I've gotten kinda used to how PG 13 things are around here."

"So, do you mind if I ask what you do? I mean...no offense but I got the feeling this whole "Fighting for truth justice and fluffy bunnies" business isn't exactly new to you from what you said before." He was doing his best to be helpful and seem approachable. After all the kid was probably all alone on the ship just like he'd been when he arrived. Making friends was important.

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Better for you then," Mindy said. "A lot of people would be beside themselves hearing that come out of me. So I guess I'm not the only one you hear this kinda stuff from. You must have quite a few foul mouth people here."

Her kind of place then, at least that part.

"There are heroes in my world, but they're not like you guys. They're the type that have to be quicker, faster, smarter than bad guys. When you fight guys like that you don't mess around: you take them out. They'll do it to you, and they don't care who they have to hurt. They don't have powers: they have to equip themselves with everything they need to save people."

She paused. "But don't tell anyone. I'm only telling you since you're Beastboy and I know you can keep this identity thing to yourself. For now. I have to be Mindy, and that's all anyone else needs to know."

[identity profile] changelingdude.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Beastboy nodded and drew an invisible zipper across his lips, "You're secret's safe with me, just um..." He looked over his shoulders to make sure no one was too close, "Watch yourself. You should be safe for the most part on board. The ship is so against violence it kind of takes a "I don't care who started it I'm ending it"

"A few weeks ago this really foul mouthed girl with blond hair, I never got her name. She was going around getting in peoples faces and trying to start fights. I managed to keep my cool but I heard that she got tranq'd a couple of times. There are places in the ship that Stacy's security can't reach though like "The City"."

He gave her a thumbs up, "It's cool that you know what you're doing though...I mean if you know anything about me you know I'm pretty clumsy most the time."

Actually if she REALLY knew her Teen Titan trivia she'd know that when he buckled down he was a force to be reckoned with, but Beastboy chose to deny that part of him. Frankly it scared him.

"Let's see we've also got Superman, Batman, Nightwing, Starfire..." He listed off names from his world she might know, "OH! And um...do you know Terra?"

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Mindy snickered. "Relax. I said I was a hero, didn't I? Who goes around picking fights? I'm not trying to draw attention to myself. Besides, I won't look like this if I decide to do what I did back home. But if these people don't believe in violence that's just stupid. Sometimes you have to knock somebody out to get some respect."

She scoffed. "See that's what I'm talking about. With the different kinds of people on this ship, you're bound to get a few that start trouble just for kicks. Those people aren't going to listen to reason. So what was this chick's problem?"

She shrugged. "Everybody can be when they're facing a really strong enemy. The trick is to get really good at what you do. Trust me, you don't into a pro at this overnight."

She had the scars to prove it.

She listened, shaking her head. "Holy crap. That is a lot of superheroes. I'm still trying to process all this. Terra, wasn't that the girl that got iced by..."

She shook her head. "Uh, never mind."

[identity profile] changelingdude.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Well if you need a new uniform there's a lady in the city who makes clothes, but your stuff might be in the storage lockers. I found an old mask of mine from when I was a kid."

He sweat dropped, "No clue, all I got out of her was alot of bestiality jokes."

"Right, well sort of. See she's alive again but can't remember who she is. She's insisting that her name is Ashley so like...if you run into her yeah."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Mindy nodded, but she actually already knew where her costume was: it was the place she'd gotten her butterfly knife. What Beastboy would need with a mask, she didn't know, unless it was an old mask from his former team.

Mindy wrinkled her nose. "She sounds like a barrel of laughs."

And here, she could understand trying to start over, sort of. "Doesn't she realize you know who she is?"

[identity profile] changelingdude.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Denials a powerful thing." Beastboy mused, "I mean who knows, maybe she really has forgotten. Starfire once told me that it's kind of like a butterfly you know? She made a new life for herself away from all the pain that her powers brought her. I'll respect that even if it means we can't hang out anymore."

He sighed and shook his head, "Sorry had to have an emo moment there, call it character depth." He laughed. "The point though is like...just because you're here doesn't mean you have to fight. It's your choice, there's plenty of other jobs on the ship for people who aren't really scrappers like us."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well that was something to think about. She hadn't died, though she'd come awfully close and had been on her way to getting out of it. It looked like Beastboy's old flame was actually taking a step in the right direction...for her. But what about her?

"It happens," she said, "Heroes don't always get happy endings. In fact, they're pretty lucky if they get a happy ending to begin with. And if you weren't brought on the ship to fight, what else would you do?"

[identity profile] changelingdude.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Well you could cook, make stuff, we've got a science wing if that's your thing, or there's always call for manual labor."

A devious grin crossed his features, "Or you could waste away the days goofing off in the library which has like every book, comic book, movie, cartoon, T.V show ever! And the Sensoriums are like totally the greatest video games ever. There's all kinds of stuff to see in the City too."

And that was Beastboy's lame attempt to try and sell the ship as not being all doom and gloom and danger all the time.

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, none of that sounded like anything she wanted to do, not at all. She was just about to tell that to Beastboy too when she spotted someone watching her from across the room. She almost didn't notice it, but there was something about this woman that screamed NARC. She needed to find out what she could too: this might lead to something that might help her get a better idea of what the hell she was going to do on this ship.

"I'll get back to you on that," she told him. "Thanks for the info though. I figure the more I talk to people, the more I'll get a picture of what I should be doing here. Good luck with your Outsiders. I'll look into this 'city' you're talking about. See you."

She could practice being accommodating later. Her head was already spinning with stuff she was still having a hard time believing.
