Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

There was more than one on board. "Hăo le ma1-" Wash didn't think he was going to be running into this already- thinks that made his brain want to fall out his ears, that was. But then again, the ship had said something about aliens, so maybe this wasn't even the worst of it.

"The white one," he said. "I'm, um, Wash."

[1. That's enough, okay-]

Kang nodded, "Haku, then - wait. Wash? And that language, was it Chinese?" If it really was Wash, he knew a woman that was going to be ecstatic.

There may have been a time when Wash wouldn't have thought twice about someone knowing him by name, but years of flying with Mal made things a little different. "Who's here that knows me? Have you met Jayne already?"

But that didn't make sense, he'd run into Jayne when they were both out of the lockers, and this guy seemed like he'd been here a while. He didn't dare ask for anyone else by name, though - he didn't want to get his hopes up.

"There's a certain young mechanic here that's told me all about her crew," Kang grinned, holding out his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Wash. And, your ship happens to be on board, in the hangar."

Forgive him, he's a little bit slow today - too many shocks to his system. "Kaylee? Kaylee's here?" Something in his face started to brighten - he'd looked something like a lost, confused puppy before. "And Serenity- the ship's here too? What about Zoe?"

Of course that question had to come hard on the heels of the other two, even as he numbly reached out and shook Kang's hand like he wasn't even sure what he was doing.

Kang shook his head after shaking Wash's hand, "Afraid not about Zoe. There's a chance she's here, but hasn't woken up yet, though." He completely understood, having a mate, how the man must have felt.

Wash let out his breath in an explosive sigh, acquiring a distinct slump to his shoulders. He twisted his wedding band around his finger with a sour look on his face. "Well - hey, at least the boat's okay, and it's good to hear Kaylee's all right. Do you know where I can find her? I should probably talk to her."
governorkang: (Well shit / Disgusting)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-04 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Kaylee... I saw her recently, before the City was quarantined, but I'm not sure - dammit," Kang cursed in Nerakese under his breath. "She might have caught the virus that's going around. I hope that's not the case."
leafonthewind: by <lj site=livejournal.com user=equanimousicons> (This landing could get interesting)

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-04 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Virus? What virus?"

If Wash's voice sounded a little sharper than normal, it's because the kind of 'virus' you caught that you actually took the time to curse about wasn't good. Most planets were inoculated against everything but the common cold - which nobody seemed to be able to get rid of - and certain planets' terraforming quirks.

"It's cross-species, and it makes the infected very aggressive. There are people working on it right now. But, like I said, she may not have caught it. If I see her, I'll be sure to tell her you're here, though. " Kang sighed. It was obvious from his tone that he cared about the girl.

"Is Jayne here, too?"

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-04 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wash felt cold - viruses that heightened aggression. This was sounding too close to Miranda already, and Wash had barely even woken up on the ship.

He was so deep in thought that Kang's question caught him by surprise. "Jayne? Yeah, he's here. What about Mal, or River?" Or any of the rest of the crew, but if Zoe wasn't here and Kaylee was, those were the next two on his list to find.
governorkang: (Sons-of-bitches command face)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-04 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Kang shook his head, "Mal was awake for a while, as was Inara, but no idea about River even being on the ship. I haven't seen or heard anything from Simon in quite a while, either," That was everyone Kaylee knew, right? He couldn't remember any other names popping up during their talks.

Wash sighed. That was everyone - except Shepard, but he was dead.

Then again, Jayne had seemed pretty convinced that they were all dead for a little while. Maybe... "There a preacher on board? He goes by the name Book."

It was too much to hope for, that Shepard might be here and still alive, but Serenity had seemed like too much to hope for too. "Where can I find the ship?"
governorkang: (Now that's funny / Smirking)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-04 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
...oh, Kang had forgotten Book. Scales clicking slightly, he took his omnicomm out of a pocket in his kilt and brought up the map of the ship, "No preacher by that name. I'm sorry. Your omnicomm, if you've already gotten one, should have a map on it. Serenity's in the hangar."

As an afterthought, he grinned and added, "Your dinosaurs are on Serenity, too."

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-04 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
The omnicomm was at least vaguely familiar - kind of like a dedicated sourcebox for the Cortex, although the ship's cortex was woefully small by comparison. It only took a few taps before he had the map up on his screen.

...That's when Kang's other words penetrated. "Kaylee told you. I'm going to lock her in the cargo hold."
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-04 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
"She showed them to me when she gave me a tour of her," Kang laughed, putting his omnicomm away. "Beautiful ship, by the way."

Wash was always happy to accept praise about Serenity. "Well, she's home," he said - his chest was practically puffing out. "I'd uh - are you busy? Could you tell me how to get there?"
governorkang: (Looking up)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-10-07 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Kang nodded, and gave the directions, even including where the ship was in the hangar. "She's one of the larger ships in there, so she should be pretty easy to spot."

Wash was momentarily torn - if there was any way to peak his interest, it was to mention ships in the plural. The thought that the hangar was full of ships - the fact that there was a hangar - got under his skin and itched. He wanted to be flying again. Being a passenger when someone else was driving wasn't the way he lived.

But Serenity was home, and he needed to see what kind of shape she was in. "...I'd stay and make nice and all but I'd like to see Kaylee, and if she's anywhere, she's on the boat-" He smiled for a minute. "If you're friends with her, she'll track you down eventually, so I'll be seeing you again."

"I completely understand," Kang assured Wash. "And, I look forward to it."
