Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

She nods, both sad and proud that her kid's that cautious. She would have done the same. She would have advised him to have done the same. "Right. But Marco, you have to understand, I don't know that you're not infested either. The last thing I heard about you, you were tracking down the Blade Ship."

After all, why wouldn't one of Tom's rebel Yeerks want to starve out Visser One if they thought she was alive? There's safety in numbers, but there's also safety in not having an entitled, ambitious, smart and highly manipulative Yeerk vying for control.

She reaches out to touch him. "I'm going to trust that you're my son."

Marco blinked. For a moment he felt a surge of hope - if she remembered the Blade Ship, then it was after she was freed - but then he remembered that he couldn't trust Stacy. Couldn't trust the goddamn ship to not mess about with his mother.

Okay, and his mother thinking that he could be the Controller for once kinda threw him for a loop. But then considering what had happened to Ax...well, he couldn't blame her.

He gulped, not moving away from the touch but not trusting himself to reach back without falling apart either. "I'll trust you're my mom after three days."

"I don't have any objections to that." It'll be the only proof they have, and if Marco was infested and trying to starve Edriss out to replace her with someone new...well, her son has the DNA of half a hundred different animals in him. If he was infested, there would be just about nothing Eva could do to defend herself. So, as much as there'll be doubt, Eva really doesn't have a choice. "But how am I going to know about you?"

Tears come to her eyes and she blinks them back again. This isn't how she imagined seeing him again would be like. "I almost gave up hope you were still alive. Your father has."
livestoannoy: (WTF?!)

"If I was a Controller, I probably wouldn't bother wanting to keep you alive," Marco said dryly. Though he couldn't help but worry a little - what if he couldn't convince her that he wasn't infested? He knew from firsthand experience that keeping an Animorph for three days was a lot harder than with anyone else. His mother would have no way of knowing that he hadn't just snuck off when she was sleeping.

But he could figure that problem out later, when he knew whether she was really in control.

"What? Come on, it's space! You can't just fly from one end to the other in a few weeks."

"If you were a Controller, you'd know that I've seen more of the Council's inner workings and more of political play between the Vissers than any freed host alive," she says skeptically. "I've got more valuable information in my head than the Pentagon does in all its offices. The Blade Ship escapees wanted to wrestle free of the Empire. They'd be stupid to through away the life of one of the biggest informational resources on their enemy out there."

She sighs. "That's what I've been saying, but it really wasn't looking good. They found a lot of wreckage that they thought was from your ship. And from what Jean and Steve said, they thought Jake was setting up for a suicide mission. And your father, well, I don't think it's any better this time than what you had to put up with."

And what if Peter's alone now? How long will he last if his wife and son have both vanished without a trace? If he thinks they're dead? She hopes to God he's in one of those pods, sleeping safe and sound, or as safe and sound as you can get inside a giant fleshy spaceship.

"Either way, I'm glad you're alright, and we'll have words about your little decision to play spaceman later."
livestoannoy: (Oh man)

"A smart Yeerk would also prefer you dead over you working against them," Marco countered. "Yeerks look out for themselves first."

Marco sighed mentally. What, was he going to have to lock himself in a cupboard for three days just so his mother didn't think he was a Controller? (Okay, so he was essentially asking her to do the same thing. It was still annoying.)

"Mom, I'm pretty sure space is big enough that any wreckage people found could be from anywhere. And besides, I'm not dead right now, am I?" Marco conveniently left out the whole 'Ram the Blade Ship' thing. His mother really didn't need to know about that part.

He didn't say anything about his dad, but the wince on Marco's face was pretty clear.

"A smarter Yeerk would prefer me infested or incapacitated. There's nothing about keeping me alive that works against their self-interest as long as I'm kept alive under the right conditions," she corrects.

She rolls her eyes at his cheek. "Naturally we weren't just looking at any wreckage. The wreckage pretty exactly matched the ship you and your friends saw fit to steal. And how do you know you're not dead? Could be we're both dead and this is purgatory. Or maybe you snapped into this flesh ship before your real timeline self ended up in a high speed galactic shipwreck."
livestoannoy: (...Dude)

Marco sighed, and rubbed his temple. Dammit, he didn't need to be figuring out how to prove he wasn't a Controller on top of trying to make sure Eva wasn't a controller. "Look, we'll figure it out later, alright?" he said, a little snappish.

He didn't want to be arguing with him mom. He just wanted his mom.

Marco shuffled his feet. He didn't know what had happened after Jake gave his last order - and he was finding he really, really didn't want to know. "Hey, a ship's a ship. They all look alike. And either way, if we can believe Stacy," Marco rolled his eyes, showing just how much stock he put into this 'Stacy', "then everything back home's gone anyway. The question is moot."

"You're the one asking me to sit in a box for three days. I'd do the same in your position, but I'm not the one you should be snapping at. Nothing about this situation is anywhere near enjoyable except knowing that you're alright." Tentacles, slime, paranoia...what a lovely evening.

"I'm not sure how much faith I'm going to put in a goo-covered, telepathic computer kidnapper's assertions." Eva exhales deeply and rubs her temples. "And to think this morning I was caught in traffic and hoping the world would end. Serves me right."
livestoannoy: (Thinking)

Marco wasn't the type to apologise much, but this was still his mother so he couldn't help that his first instinct was to do so. Except then he remembered that she could still be Visser One instead, and no way in hell would Marco apologise to her.

So he ended up just looking awkward, and saying nothing.

"Regardless of whether what Stacy says is true, for now we're stuck here," he pointed out. "And I need to go talk to the others," although the others were just Jake right now, but Eva didn't need to know that, it'd be better for Visser One to think that they had the numbers, "so you are going to have to stay here. If you move, then as far as I'm concerned you are Visser One, no questions asked, got it?"

Visser One was smart. She'd want to try and convince Marco that she was just his mom, in the hopes that she'd be able to exploit a weakness. If this was the Visser, he had to hope that she'd want to keep up the pretense.

"Aye aye, Captain Hero," she says with a smile. Hopefully he'll bring someone back who knows what to do and they can get this whole thing over with. She can stand the three day wait, but it always kills her to see Marco seeing not her but the prospect of a deadly enemy. As he leaves, she looks around the room and continues quietly observing the people and creatures milling around.
