Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

Kang glanced over at Toothless, amused. "Hoping for more Vikings?"

X3 dragonish friends~~

Toothless offered a comically negative loquacious grunt. Thor, no. He had Hiccup and Hiccup had Astrid and his father, and even apart from that there was the boy with huge nostrils and an ego the size of the Green Death and the other girl Viking from the village who usually had another half following her around. Did Stacy need anymore Vikings? Toothless thought not.

It was still strange to Kang, talking to a dragon that could understand him but wasn't able to speak itself. He could pick up on the body language well enough, though, and he grinned, "Might be for the best. They're a rowdy bunch."

[identity profile] hasnoteefs.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Similarly, but hardly in an unpleasant way, it was odd for Toothless to communicate so easily with someone who wasn't Hiccup or one of the dragons commonly seen on or around Berk. He whuffed, almost like a laugh, and wobbled his head back and forth in a motion oddly similar to a nod. He then scraped a forefoot on the ground, grunting again and inclining his head toward Kang. What about you, then? Anyone familiar?

"Unfortunately, no. No one unfamiliar from home, either; I haven't had anyone try to kill me or threaten me yet," Kang said dryly, with a snort.

[identity profile] hasnoteefs.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The Night Fury made his odd laugh-like sound again at the latter part of Kang's statement. He enjoyed Kang-- despite not actually being the same race, Toothless and the Draconian had common ground on which to stand, and he shared the same sort of dry wit that Hiccup so often used. He turned his eyes upward, folding his earfins neatly against his head and making a throaty gurgling sound. Unfortunate that there were no friendly faces, but good that Toothless didn't have to go biting anyone's ankles for bad conduct on the ship.

Haku had slept through the last month, under his river, and so had missed...well, quite a bit. Dragons-worth, apparently, though he'd never seen one like Toothless outside of the mural on Kang's wall.

He paces over, dragon-form to give them both the formal greeting and say hello.

Draconic party?

Kang liked Toothless well enough, too. It helped that he was black instead of metallic; even knowing that he wasn't from Krynn, it still would have been uncomfortable talking to him.

He nodded at Haku in polite greeting, straightening up slightly.

Toothless turned his head toward Haku slowly, guarded. The slender dragon seemed to mean no immediate harm, but the Night Fury still chose to be cautious simply due to not recognizing... ...well, anything about him. He was long and slender and had narrow bird-like legs and talons, but resembled no breed of dragon Toothless had previously seen. Frankly, it perplexed him. At least Kang seemed comfortable enough, which lead Toothless to deem the situation safe as a whole. He inclined his head in greeting, gurgling softly. Hello there, strange fuzzy whiskered dragon that I don't know.

~party~

[identity profile] thekohakuriver.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Haku made a soft, agreeable sound in kind, a very similar greeting, in the same language. Hello, sleek black creature that I have never seen. To Kang, he bowed. Hello, horned person.

Haku hesitated— it was poor manners to speak when another of his kind preceded him and had not, but after a moments consideration, he ducked his head down to a conversational height and introduced himself to Toothless, "I am Haku."

Honestly, Kang wasn't all that fond of Haku due to their first meeting, but he could at least be civil. He could feel the power emanating from the dragon, too. "I'm surprised you haven't seen Toothless around."

[identity profile] hasnoteefs.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Toothless peeled his lips away from his teeth-- er, gums --and made a valiant attempt at the human expression of smiling. All in all it was a comical show, but hopefully the point was made. He inclined his head toward Haku, still "smiling", and then let his lips sink back into their usual place. It was uncomfortable to keep doing that for very long, he wasn't sure how humans did it. Nice to meet you, Haku. I'm Toothless.

[identity profile] thekohakuriver.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Haku tilted his head at the display. As a rule, dragons tended not to show their teeth in that kind of a smile unless they intended to use them for a completely different purpose.

He knew what it looked like when he tried it himself, so he just lifted the corners of his mouth and perked his ears, a more subtle return.

How strange, that this should be how he meets another dragon, for the first time in centuries.

[identity profile] i-saw-myself.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
What's this? A conglomeration of dragons and dragoney people?

Hiccup tilted his head at the group, looking slightly amused, and then wordlessly, edged in and sat down right in the middle of their little group.

He wasn't actually one for crowds. Years of being a loner (albeit not by his own choice) just made big groups of people hard to get used to. He didn't get nervous or anything, but he got a little itchy sometimes. So the group was a welcome island in a sea of social awkwardness.

Sitting on the floor with his legs folded, he stroked Toothless's neck affectionately.

"Hi," he said to the group.

Don't mind him. Doo de doo.

Birds of a feather (or was that dragonoids of a scale) stick together? Feel free to join the party, Hiccup. You're an honorary dragonoid.

Kang smiled, checking the boy over, "You're healing up faster than I thought you would."

[identity profile] hasnoteefs.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
An honorary dragonoid indeed. Toothless considered Hiccup more his kind than most other dragons, most days, and it certainly seemed the pair fit together better than the Viking teenager and most of his kind. Apart from maybe Astrid, but she was a little unusual for a Viking girl to begin with.

Automatically upon Hiccup's self-inclusion to the group, Toothless moved to stand nearby, and crooned happily at the pettings he received for it. So he was sort of an overgrown, scaley lapdog. That was okay with him.

Knowing Kang already knew Hiccup, after a moment relishing in the affection Toothless gently bumped his forehead against Hiccup's shoulder, then turned his head toward Haku. Haku, this is Hiccup, my human friend. Hiccup, this is Haku.

[identity profile] thekohakuriver.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Haku leaned his long neck over and gave Hiccup a welcome sniff, but left it at that. He could see clearly, this was Toothless' boy, and not someone he could just...

"You were injured?" he asked. What else had he missed in river-sleep?

Hey, he knows Haku, Toothless. Although he hadn't seen him in a while.

"I was on the mission. That went bad. With Kang. Annd I got hurt."

Hiccup seemed to be focusing mostly on petting Toothless as he spoke and his voice was somewhat distant and very flat, as if all the emotion was being kept out of it.

"I was in Medbay until a few days ago. I feel a lot better now."

Physically, at least.

Mentally, he was just completely avoiding confronting the full horror of what happened to him, and pretending he was perfectly fine.

"Yeeeah, I'm pretty tough," he said, knocking on his automail leg to demonstrate his survivability.

Quick subject change.

"So, looks like a big crowd this time, huh."
