Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

"Yeah... I-I understand, mostly, I think."

Tavros twiddles his claws.

"But what am I supposed to do now? I can't find Trollian on this thing so I don't even know who my server player was. I can't find anyone on here."

By "this thing" he means the comm ring. Which he seems to have up and working just fine, even though he hasn't done anything but search.

"Well, the ship has it's own kind of server, I guess. We're traveling through space right now, so there's no way to hook up to anything else." She said. She had no idea what a 'server player' was, but she'll save the questions for when the boy was a little less confused.

"But don't worry. Your friends are safe and asleep in the Pod Caverns, the place where you woke up. We don't know when they'll wake up, but you'll be able to talk to them then."

Congratulations to Fate for finally saying something to make Tavros look less unhappy. A lot less, actually. Despite his nervousness, he smiles a little.

"They're here? And okay? Gamzee too? Can I... do you think I could see them?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well... you're free to go down to the Pod Caverns whenever you wish, but you might not be successful. The most you can make out are very blurry shapes in those pods." It was a bit of bad news, but Fate's smile didn't fade at all.

"But rest assured, they're all here and they're all perfectly fine."

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well... as long as they're really okay. I guess I'll see everyone later."

He looks around. So many unfamiliar faces. Maybe one or two species he can kind of recognize. And back up at Fate.

"So, is this the game? Do I... fight stuff now?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"This isn't a game," Fate said, a bit more seriousness in her voice. "But if you're able to fight, then you'll have a chance to soon. We don't know when we're going to run into the Ohm next, but we'll be prepared."

Note how she didn't say he wasn't allowed to fight. Sure, she's a bit worried, but that's just because she doesn't know what he can do yet. After all, Hayate could still fight during those months of recovery when she was still stuck in her wheelchair. So for all she knew, this child could pack just as much of a punch as her friend.

Tavros doesn't really like to fight, but trolls are expected to, and he's pretty handy with a lance. Now that he's gotten his weapons system back, he feels a little less vulnerable, so if there's combat ahead, then he'll be ready!

Ugh. More Ohm talk. God please don't let that be the human word for his species.

Time for a subject change!

"Well, okay. So, um, then what do you think I should do?"

"Just get used to the ship, for now." Fate said. "We have the Sensoriums, which can create anything you can think of, or the Media Library, which has a lot of movies and books available to watch or read."

Aaaand there's a pause. She had heard about the things that have been going on in the City, but she wasn't sure what the status was at the moment...

"There's also a city on-board, but it's closed off at the moment."

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, those Sensoriums sound really cool. Definitely something to check out later. Media Library, got it, doesn't sound too different from Grubflix On Demand or generic internet piracy. Not that he does that sort of thing, but it's still an option. He wonders if there are Alternian titles in the library, but before he can ask, Fate gets a bit more serious.

"How do you, um, close off a whole city? Er, why? ...How big is this place?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cut off all the entrances. It's a little easier than you'd think it would be, since the city has it's own level on the ship. And it seems a virus has broken out, and they're trying to contain it." She answered. As for that last question...

"I've only seen it twice, but the ship seems to be about the size of an average moon."

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Tavros nods. Jeez, this is a lot to take in. A city that's just one level of a ship? This is so not what he was expecting when he started downloading that file. He's accepted that this is probably not the game he was supposed to play, but it's such a strange coincidence that it's hard for him to separate the two.

"What sort of a virus? Are we... are we safe, do you think?"

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"As safe as we can be," Fate reassured. "The city is quarantined, and they're tracking down anyone infected that managed to get out. But still, be careful once you start wandering around, okay?"

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I will. Uh, thanks..." trailing off awkwardly as he realizes he never caught her name.

"Umm... what's your name? Mine's Tavros."

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fate T. Harlaown," She said with a smile, offering a hand for him to shake. "You can just call me Fate. It's nice to meet you, Tavros!"

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Fate? Your name is really Fate?"

How strange. But maybe human culture is funny about four-letter names the way troll culture is about six-letter ones. Regardless, that's a pretty interesting name. Slightly belatedly, he shakes her hand.

"N-nice to meet you, too. I guess I'll go and try not to, uh, find sick people."

[identity profile] thunder-ace.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Good. And if you're not feeling well, even if you think it's nothing, make sure to go down to the Med Bay, okay? If you can't find it, just contact me on the Omnicomm and I'll help you out." Aaand Fate is back in Mama Mode. You're lucky to have her watching out for you, Tavros.

[identity profile] alterniantaurus.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
If Tavros had any idea what a mama was... well, he'd be pretty okay with the idea. Just knowing there are people out there he can get in touch with, on top of the reassurance that his troll friends are fine, is security enough.

Mild-mannered or not, you don't survive six solar sweeps on Alternia without being able to defend yourself. He'd rather avoid plague victims, but he's not too nervous about running into one.

"Uhh, yeah, okay. I feel fine, though, so basically I don't think I have, um, anything to worry about, really."

He heads off in search of... well, a respiteblock would be a good start.

"And uh, thanks, Fate!"
