Meet-n-Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall man in green armor and snake girl among their number. There are also several authoritative-looking figures ready to introduce themselves.

There's a lot to tell the new people. It's going to be a lot to take in.

[ooc: Only new characters and Command Staff can start new threads for introductions, to limit the number of threads. Everyone else, just tag in and have your guys greet the newbies.]

And so it begins...

Jayne looked up hearing his voice called by a familiar voice and felt his blood run cold.

"Wash...?" He was struck dumb for a moment and then surprisingly enough a look of fear...absolute terror crossed his features.

"I'm dead...shit."

Epic Stacy bromance?

Wash stumbled to a stuttering halt at the look on Jayne's face. It wasn't like he'd never seen the big man scared before, but usually it involved Reavers, or... Reavers. Having that look turned on him was something else.

"If you're dead, then I'm dead, and I don't feel very dead." He patted along his torso. "Not dead-feeling. Why do you look like you've just seen a pack of Reavers?"

Someone's gonna get punched before it's over X3

"You!" Jayne pointed in disbelief and then anger, "Stop that! Stop...moving. You're not supposed to be moving!"

If there was one thing that really got under Jayne's skin it was ghosts and spirits and things he couldn't kill because they were already dead.

Nine gets you ten it's Wash

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-02 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"What?" Wash asked, blinking at him. Jayne looked just as disoriented as him, but Wash wasn't about to leave the only member of the crew he had seen so far.

He walked closer with a puzzled frown. "Did the slime do something to your brain? Well, what there was of it anyway," he amended.

By the way, do you have a website for your chinese translations? I need one.

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
OK he was joking...ghosts didn't joke right?

And they were usually very aware of being dead.

Jayne's anger was not subsided however, this world was starting to mess with him worse and he didn't like it. "The hell's going on around here?" He grunted trying to change the subject. Testing Wash to see if he was in fact undead would have to wait.

"Good to uh...see you." He managed to choke out looking around suspiciously as if he expected someone to jump on him while he was distracted.

"You think I know?" Wash asked. "I woke up naked and covered in slime same as you - haven't had a chance to do more than get felt up by creepy ship tentacles and stop by the lockers."

Jayne was acting weird. Weirder than normal, that was - although to be fair, Jayne was usually one of the least weird people on the crew. You could always count on him to be rude or violent, or both. "Sure you too - have you seen Zoe?"

You are my hero <3

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"No." grunted Jayne and a horrible thought flashed into his head. The last time he'd seen Zoe was her returning after a short trip away from the ship to visit some old friends. He'd been surprised that even in a couple weeks her belly seemed to have swollen twice it's size. Pregnancy was scary like that.

As much of an asshole as Jayne was...there was something eating away at him talking to the formerly dead pilot he used to threaten on a near daily basis.

Lucky for Jayne he had an old fallback rule. If you don't understand something it's probably not worth the effort.

"All the people in the verse to get stuck here with and I get your goofy ass." That was a more Jaynelike comment.

Wash scowled at him, not happy about being stuck on the ship with Jayne for company either. "Well, you're here, and I'm here. Stands to reason that the rest of the crew's here somewhere. You won't have to suffer through my magnificent company much longer."

Despite the fact that Jayne was probably his least favorite person on the crew, it was good to see a familiar face. And this ship was big, the pod cavern had showed him that. It stood to reason that his wife was somewhere on board.

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Jayne scanned the area for any other familiar faces, thankful that he was taller then Wash, "There's a dragonman over there...why is there a dragonman?" He asked as his primal instinct was sizing up if he could take that manmonster in a fight.

"I need a drink." He added.

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-02 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's a what-" Wash couldn't see over people's heads as easily as Jayne could, and dignity kept him from hopping up and down to try and get a glimpse of whatever it was Jayne was talking about. "I mean I already saw the snake lady, did you see the snake lady? I'm not going off in the brainpan, right?"

It wasn't just the snake lady that was odd. There were more than a few... creatures wandering around the observation deck. Then a gap opened in the crowd, and Wash grabbed Jayne's arm. "Wǒde mā - look!"

Outside the windows were not the familiar stars of the black, but the multicolored lights of the Bleed. Wash's jaw sagged open.

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Jayne's eyes followed Wash's direction and he blinked unimpressed. In fact as far as things went this was the least confusing of all the things he'd seen or experienced so far.

Still to humor the tiny man he let out an acknowledging, "Huh..."
leafonthewind: by <lj site=livejournal.com user=orangelusik> (Brainwaves firing)

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-02 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Wash, on the other hand, had just had his world turned upside down. "'Huh?' that's all you have to say? Don't you - what am I saying, of course you don't know how significant it is that we can't see the stars anymore."

Wash threw up his hands, disgusted. "Couldn't I have been stuck here with anyone else? I understand the universe hates me enough that my wife isn't here but... someone?"

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Jayne growled reacting with the kindness and understanding that he was not known for. "Listen little man, there's a whole mess of strangers back there you can spend the rest of your afterlife bothering so don't go complaining when I'm not intimidated by the fact that we can't see the stars."

Though in the back of his head Jayne was thinking, That's actually pretty weird too now that I think about it.

"Ain't you heard what people are saying? Home's gone."

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-02 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"What is it with you and your morbid fascination with being dead? I'm pretty not-dead, thanks." Wash asked. He was still staring in a kind of horrified fascination at the Bleed beyond the windows, so he almost didn't catch what Jayne said next.

Almost. "What? What do you mean, gone?"

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Jayne mentally kicked himself for slipping up again, it was damn weird!!! He'd helped bury the man!

"Open your damn ears." He snarled and looked over his shoulder as he'd begun doing every few minutes expecting an attack, "They're sayin' that our verse is gone. Destroyed by aliens and this boat's the only reason we're alive."
leafonthewind: by <lj site=livejournal.com user=equanimousicons> (D:)

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-02 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aliens," Wash said flatly, clearly unimpressed. Then he laughed - it had a slightly hysterical edge to it. "Of course. There's a dragon, and the ship is alive, and there are no stars outside. Why not aliens?"

He shook his head, the information still trying to sink in. All the worlds, gone. His homeworld, gone. His - wait. "What about Serenity?"

It would be too much, if his ship was gone too.

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Jayne opened his mouth to make a cruel comment but the look on Wash's face combined with the knowledge the man had already died once stopped him.

In an act of uncharacteristic charity he looked away and grumbled, "If my hat is here...maybe Serenity is too." He drew the knit cap from his pocket as evidence. "And maybe some of the others. There were alotta those pod things ain't been popped." He added.
leafonthewind: by <lj site=livejournal.com user=nightingaledies> (So tired)

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-02 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Wash hadn't missed the hesitation - but still. "And my wedding ring was on board," he said, twisting it around his finger. "Those were both on Serenity, so the ship must have her here or-"

He cut himself off before he could finish that sentence. Whatever had been in the lockers had been things he usually wore on his person, things he had been wearing on his person when they made the flight to Mr. Universe's planet. The last thing Wash remembered was rumbling through atmosphere, trying to hold the boat steady. What if they had crashed?

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Jayne wasn't the most sensitive or gentle of creatures, and no one would ever accuse him of being charitable without a damn good reason so he stood silently for a minute letting Wash process whatever he was thinking about.

Fact of the matter was Jayne didn't believe for a minute they'd be lucky enough to have Serenity on board. Hell Wash probably used up all his luck being brought back to life.

leafonthewind: by <lj site=livejournal.com user=equanimousicons> (D:)

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-03 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"What's the uh, last thing you remember?" Wash asked. He strained, trying - he could see the hangar, it was coming up to fast, and then... nothing. "Did I crash the boat?"

The look on his face at that thought was probably even more pathetic than the look on his face when he had thought Serenity wasn't here at all.

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"That'd be a first." Jayne grunted and scanned the crowd a moment longer before turning back to face the smaller man, "You got us planetside same as you always do, scept maybe a little rougher."

Alright Cobb, gut check time. Are you gonna tell him the out and out truth of the matter or are you gonna puss out?

It's times like this he usually found himself asking "What's in it for me?" If he told Wash or if he didn't which would be more beneficial to the muscled man?
leafonthewind: by <lj site=livejournal.com user=orangelusik> (Brainwaves firing)

[personal profile] leafonthewind 2010-10-03 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
So, Jayne did remember the landing - well, Wash didn't. "Why do you remember and I don't?"

He wasn't sure what bugged him more - the fact that he was pretty sure Jayne wasn't telling him everything or that he couldn't see what he had done to land the ship. He had been trying very hard not to think about what he was doing during that flight, but hearing they'd made it out just made him wonder how he'd managed it.

[identity profile] icanhashat.livejournal.com 2010-10-03 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Hell if I know maybe you hit your head when we touched down. We landed, got to the transmitter, sent the message and everybody got a happy shiny ending." Jayne's words came hot and fast as his irritation mounted.

He'd lied. He'd just told a blatant and not very convincing lie before he'd even finished considering if it would be more beneficial to himself or not.

Had he done it to protect Wash? He could just hear Mal and the others laughing about it later, big tough Jayne gone soft.

...well...that's only if any of them were left.

"Fat load of good it did for us to go to all the trouble, us ending up here in the end."

"Okay, okay-" Wash held up his hands. Something that was trying to be a grin wavered onto his face. He didn't want to piss Jayne off, since he really didn't want to spend his first day on the ship nursing a bruised jaw.

He crossed his arms, looking back out into the starless sky. He shuddered and turned back just as quick. If the 'verse was gone, that meant Shepard had died for nothing. People wouldn't know about Miranda...

He shook himself out of it. Miranda was gone too. "Maybe we should go looking for her." Another idea occurred to him and be stood up straighter. "Maybe Zoe's on the boat, she'd stay there if she could."
