Reign of Destruction

By this point, the Ohm had spread all across the planet.

Destruction spread throughout the cities of Zokez II. There were evacuees that still needed to escape. People that needed saving.

It was time for the crew to do what they did best.

attack on the old folks' home!

[identity profile] gunslinging.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
In some places, the evacuation was still underway.

And in some, it had barely gotten started. Such was the case at Sunnyside Elders' Home, currently overtaken by organized chaos. Caretakers running from room to room, trying desperately to get people moving, move those who needed help without hurting them, and convince those stubborn few who just didn't see the point in leaving at their age anyway.

What they needed was time, but with Ohm Grenadiers lining up just down the street from the home, how much of it they had...well, that was another matter entirely.

Axl didn't have a real plan in mind once he got back from the reactor mission. Go, see where things looked bad, jump in was about the sum of it. But then he caught a glimpse of the building at the end of the street, people still helping each other outside --

-- and then he saw the acid-spitting bugs just a short distance down the road.

Well, I guess that settles that, he thought, running into the empty (but not for long) space between and checking on the guns he'd grabbed from Stacy earlier. Don't have my armor, don't have my own weapons. Two pistols and a sub-machine gun that I'll actually have to stop and reload if they run down, and my copy chip if I get close enough for melee... One of the bugs spat something onto the concrete in front of it, leaving a smoking hissing hole in the street. ...yeah, we'll save that as a last resort.

One of him, too many of them, and he had no idea if there was anybody else around who wasn't already neck-deep in it and unable to jump in.

Sure, piece of cake.

Kate had been helping with the evacuation but now in the panic, everybody had been scattering further. She glanced up at the skies and ran. This was bad. This was war, on top of invasion, and it was only going to get worse. She caught sight of the bugs and quickened her steps as she ran, getting her bow and special arrows ready to go. She then caught sight of the spit and the tendrils of smoke.

....Ok, don't get in that crossfire. Good to know.

"Hey, how many we looking at here?" She just hoped they didn't bring reinforcements.

Unlike Kate, Hikari wasn't actively helping out with the evacuation of the Elder's Home.

"Nefertimon! Now!" she shouted to her partner digimon (http://wikimon.net/images/thumb/c/c8/Nefertimon.jpg/320px-Nefertimon.jpg), who she was currently riding on, keeping watch for the approaching Ohm.

Which she manage to see. And they spit acid.

Well, it was a good thing that none of Nefertimon's attacks were close range, wasn't it?

"Curse of Queen!" Nefertimon shouted, a few pink beams of energy shooting down from her headgear towards the approaching swarm of acid-spewing Ohm in quick succession.

Repairing the Defense Grid!

[identity profile] celery-brooch.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor was lost.

It wasn’t an unusual thing, really. I mean, it probably wouldn’t have been so frustrating if there weren’t these giant, insect-like creatures destroying everything in their path, and there weren’t people panicking and trampling one another and blocking the way to escape pods, but, you know.

So it was something of a relief when, as if on cue, a loudspeaker cracked on and blared over the sirens for only a moment—

||Attention all Veratech personnel: please report to the grid level for biannual maiiiiiiintenaggpoighavnshhhhhhhh…||

—And then it promptly fizzled into static. Oh but it was long enough—long enough for the Doctor to remember that map he’d seen on the Observation Deck, to recall the company name, to assess what this mysterious ‘grid’ was for and to plan a course of action. Yes, this must be the defense grid! Obviously the Ohm would’ve taken it out as soon as (if not well before) they landed, and by now they would be preoccupied with other places in the more crowded areas, so—so—

The Doctor, grim as the situation was, bore an open-mouthed grin as he ran for the beach. And, luckiest thing, there was a shuttle waiting for them. Veratech’s logo—he’d never actually seen it before, but it was obvious that this was what it was supposed to represent—was pasted boldly along the side. There was no one in the pilot seat, even though the large blood stain just outside the main hatch suggested that there used to be.

He bit his lip. Perhaps another representative would show up soon. Or, at any rate, someone who knew how to fly one of these things…

[identity profile] wynthegame.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Wyn is, to be perfectly honest, not the most useful person to have around in a fight. Since the Ohm attacked, she's spent most of her time trying to outrun various insectoid creatures trying their very best to kill her in a rather old, very temperamental hovertruck. She's managed to survive relatively unscathed, although the truck is a bit worse for the wear.

When she hears the announcement, though, she immediately turns the truck towards the beach and presses the accelerator all the way to the floor. It's probably the best way to find the grid level, or at least some way of getting to the grid level, and the Ohm aren't likely to come back to the beach when there are more populated areas to be rampaging in.

Luckily, there was a vehicle with... some sort of logo on it on the beach a few hundred feet from where Wyn entered the beach. "So... that does say Veratech, yeah?" Wyn calls to the man standing next to the shuttle, bringing the hovertruck to an abrupt stop and lifting her sunglasses to double-check the logo.

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
As this was happening, there was someone who is catching up to them. Alessa had been bored and annoyed for most of the vacation, and as it drew to a close, she was more than happy to put this horrible time behind her. Then the siren filled the air, the people panicked, and now there was just mayhem and confusion.

She loved it.

Now the surge of energy ran through her as she found herself face to face with the enemy Ohm, those responsible for her being here to begin with. She struck with no mercy, and as a result she was pretty cut up but looking ready for anything.

For now, she would wait. She could still occupy a space without taking solid form at the moment.

FIRE

[identity profile] notadamnangel.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
The sirens were loud, but the smoke spiralling upward from the building was even more of an evident sign of the situation. The shattering of glass could be heard as the heat and pressure from the flames inside got to be too much. The flames roared higher with each fresh rush of oxygen to further feed them. Screams and calls for help in amidst coughing from the increasing smoke levels could be faintly heard inside.

Dean had dropped off Sam so he could get to his ship. Now he was staring up at the building, assessing the predicament as one of the people briefed him.

"Shit, always wanted to be a fireman. Damn, here goes something." He glanced around as he grabbed a cloth to shield his face from the smoke. He could use the help, but he was only seconds away from charging in to get the remaining people out.

Re: FIRE

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Katara's first thought had been to the evacees, and because of that she had to wade through the ones that were already being lead away by everyone else to find the ones facing real peril. She knew by the end of this that she'd have to be out healing, but the ones who were in trouble came first.

So when she spotted the fire and heard the screaming, she made a beeline toward the burning building. When she saw Dean preparing to go in, she held up a hand. "Wait! Give me a moment!"

She brought her arms up in the air, drawing twice as quickly as she could have, and had a wave of water move around the room now, her hands working quickly. She turned to dean and gestured upward, for him to get the people higher up. She couldn't just splash the place: it might drown people with the moon being out like this. She'd have to slowly get everything cooled down.

At least Dean could move farther in without burning himself.

Re: FIRE

[identity profile] enter-aeneas.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
No turning back now.

Aeneas had long since given up on trying to get back to the ship—returning to it wouldn't do him any good, and it would give him no satisfaction to watch from (relative) safety while this luxurious planet full of innocent people burned. Thus he was doing what he could; as it turned out, this was very little.

A burning building—with people still alive in it no less!—caught his attention. Aeneas trotted over, giving the human male that he’d met before (Dean, was it?) and Katara (a very familiar face) a dry trill as he approached, throat already cracking in the baked air. Oh, this was going to be uncomfortable.

“How many do you think are in there?” the alien managed to ask, covering his nose with a fuzzy forearm and pressing his feathers to his face. Not going in that building yet. Nope.

Animal rescue, go!

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-06-23 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Earlier this week, Billy had visited the local adoption center. It did a good business, and the species there thrived under the care of the volunteers. Under ordinary circumstances, the pets would be going home with their new owners right at this time.

Unfortunately, many pets had been abandoned in the evacuation chaos. The lonely things had wandered the streets, crying out for caretakers who wouldn't be returning. Once again, the shelter had stepped in to gather the newly abandoned pets, but now all their lives were threatened.

Now, the Ohm are being held off from the route the shelter sits on. Lost animals with one eye and many legs are cowering in fear, curled close to the kind souls who refuse to let them die alone.

Billy refuses to let them die, full stop. Once he's sure that he's not needed elsewhere, he runs into the shelter with the intent of evacuating the volunteers and pets.

"Come on, you have to go! We can get you to the shuttles!"

"No, no, you must fight. We will remain here and keep our animals calm," assured one of the smaller volunteers.

"Please come with us! There's plenty of room, just hurry!" This, Billy realizes, is going to be a long argument unless he starts dragging them out. Don't they have survival instincts?

It's clear that he alone can't do this.

With the Age Candy Chamo had given her and geared up in the armor she was granted by Negi, Sasami was able to slip away from the other kids and join in on the fight. However, as she made her way across, she spotted Billy trying to get a number of caretakers and the abandoned animals out and failing.

"Ryo-Ohki..." Sasami uttered, looking back at her cabbit friend. The creature nodded as Sasami ran inside. "Please, you have to listen to him! It's too dangerous! If you need to get out, I have a way to do so!"

Help's here, Billy - you're not in this alone.

"FOOLS!" The Son of Satan spat. "You must flee now while you are able. Do you value your lives more than these creatures?"

Daimon stared at one of them. It stared back with its big, weird, alien puppy eyes.

"We're not leaving without them!"

Daimon scoffed. "A waste of my time, but if you insist..."

And then there were three.

Makeshift Medical

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
The fight is still going on, but Katara knew better than to dawdle around looking for fights: as strong as she was, she was needed HERE, where she could look over people. Luckily for her, she wasn't alone: there were several people that had the same idea, so they'd settled near a spot where the evacuees were boarding the ships to leave. Some people were easier than others: bruises, scrapes, fainting and minor hysteria that Lauri had been able to calm down so they could board the ship.

But not everyone was that lucky. There were some people that had been hit by debris from the Ohm, there were those that had been struck by other panicked evacuees and been run over. Those people were cut up pretty badly, and she was glad that some of the experienced doctors had the things they needed to patch them up. Unfortunately, the injuries were starting to get worse and that wasn't all. Now the people who were actually fighting the Ohm were showing up, they did not get away with barely a scratch. Now she was starting to see familiar faces.

It was time for the medic staff to really get to work.

Nanashi was not too fond of the idea of using her blood to heal people, to heal humans, but all it took to get her to work for some time in the medic camp was one cut up child. One little girl cut pretty bad and crying on the battlefield, and Nanashi could not help herself.

The children did not complain that she was using blood to heal them at least. It made them feel better, and that was all they were concerned about.

He had been called Paradoxis for one specific reason.

He was both a warrior and a healer. He was a survivalist and there was neither good nor evil about that. Renne had fought as well as he could but as much as he wanted to continue, his mind had persuaded him to try helping in this branch of things.

Although still in his starry-armour regalia, the creature had long since dismounted from the illusion-unicorn of earlier and quietly crawls toward the sound of a medical triage.

"Man this sucks..." said Matt, setting to work. He didn't know if it was said because he wasn't out there fighting, or the amount of injured people from cuts and lacerations.

"Gather together, that's it, that's it... perfect. Hold that pose."

Matt held out his hands and concentrated, making damn sure he was well away from Renne when he did this. No sense to throw the little dude into a fit.

A minute. Two.

"GET BETTER DAMN YOU!"

Light flashed and people found their injuries healed.

Simon hadn't felt comfortable going on shore leave without his medkit, and unfortunately now it was coming in handy. Even amidst the chaos of the evacuation, it wasn't difficult for the surgeon to know where he would be useful and sought out other members of the medical team, whether he knew them or not. He could recognize crewmates, at least, and he could certainly recognize a medical station, makeshift or not.

Swallowing his own fear (what if they failed here? What if they were forced to leave before the whole crew had returned?), Simon tried his best to concentrate on the task at hand--calming and treating the civilians injured in their escape to the shuttles. He would be no use to anyone if he let worrying get the better of him. This is why Stacy had chosen him, and he was determined to do his job.

Laurie is breathing in and out, standing somewhere where she is the tallest above everyone. She has her arms out, head tilted back, and her stance is cool and collected...oh, how she is not really!

But, she digresses, and keeps her stances. Pheromones outpour, calm and soothing, tranquil and light, soft and warm... Happy thoughts. Caaaaaaaalm thoughts. Waterfalls. Clouds. Bunnies. Kittens. Buddha.

The pheromones seep into the people, calming down a flighty person, easing the tension in the small children, causing the most argumentative and nasty-mooded in this time of battle...to come to agreements.

Please. Safe. Help others. Be a friend. Move in straight lines. Keep together. All together. One big team. Cooperate. Everything will be alright.

She perseveres to continue to think this. Because if she stops thinking this, then her pheromones will begin to unravel.

Sasami limped to the where the triage was, the fight in her spent. As much as she wanted to jump back in, she wanted to relax. She took a seat nearby, trying to make sure those who needed it weren't deprived of one.

As she did, she willed the armor away, allowing her wounds to be shown better. She would catch her breath, tend to her wounds, then hopefully either hop back in or pull a retreat.

At the moment, she was worried about Negi and his state...

And here comes...well, not a knight in shining armor. More like a geek in sweaty spandex. But regardless of who he is, he wants to help the hospital patients.

Muscling his way through the crowds of Ohm with a lance spun this way and that, he eventually finds one of the newer engineers in the thick of the fight. She's talented and it shows, but the sheer mass of them are clearly frustrating. On top of that, those ill people still needed a clear path to the shuttle. And he would help provide it.

Take out those Shrikes!

[personal profile] curiousredsoul 2010-06-23 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The dragon darted low over the streets and between buildings rapidly. Markings glowing bright, alive with energy as she sought to keep the ohm at bay from the large group of evacuees now heading toward the space port. The raised roadway the Evacuees had chosen to take giving them a small respite from the Ohm for the moment. Or so it seemed...

Until psychic lances of energy struck down from above, aimed ahead of the group. Cutting straight through the surface of the bridge and into the ground below, fortunately not entirely cutting off the roadway. Celena's gaze snapping to the swarm of incoming Shrikes that threatened to cut off the evacuees from the space port. She would not let that happen under her watch.

Snapping wings wide she swooped up, markings flaring as she propelled herself toward the oncoming wings of Shrikes, putting herself between them and the civilians below even as she put out a call both Telepathically and over the comms.

-- I've got swarm of Shrikes threatening southern evacuation route. I'll keep them busy, any assistance would be appreciated --

Even as she sent the message she was forced to roll, narrowly avoiding one of the psychic lances.

A moment later, help arrived.

A quartet of yellow orbs, each crackling with electricity, slammed into the Ohm nearest Celena. In their wake, a blonde-haired girl followed, carrying a sword with a glowing yellow blade.

"More backup should be coming soon." Was all she said before heading back into the fray. Introductions could wait, at least until the civilians were safe.

"Riot Blade."

The other voice seemed to come from the girl's weapon, and in a flash, it had changed; the blade was shorter now, and slimmer. It wouldn't pack as much of a punch as it's previous, broadsword-like form, but it would be faster, and that's what counted right now.

The problem with having a weapon of choice the size of a building is that it doesn't work so well within the bounds of a non-Zoid friendly city.

But luckily, not all of the Ohm are in the city. Ohm are taking up siege positions outside, where there's enough open ground for him to move. It's a perfect equation. Vega's been itching to do something useful for the longest time, and he finally has his chance.

And the Berserk Fury is all too happy to be going with him on this.

<< This is Vega! Anyone who can fight with tanks and firebugs and stuff, there's a whole bunch of 'em coming up on the north side of the city! I'm taking the Berserk Fury out to fight them and could use a hand! >>

The siege party's front line is made up of tanks, with the even more massive firebugs following behind and some smaller types at their feet. The tanks are there to protect the firebugs from attempted melee, and the firebugs are there to use their ranged abilities to clear the way. Their job as they advance is to prevent any on-foot escapes and round everything into the "kill zone" of the city.

Vega strafes along the front with the Fury's boosters, his Zoid's small beam cannons firing at the tanks. They just leave scorch marks on the heavy armor. He's looking for a way in close, so he can do some real damage. The firebugs keep him from staying anywhere for very long at this range.

Mei-Xing has been doing her best to hide, stay out of this madness. She's not a soldier, she's never been in a war zone that her father and his crew hadn't created. And even then, all she had to do was wait a few minutes for the problem to be solved before she risked poking her head out.

This? This was insanity, and she wanted nothing to do with it. Mei-Xing did her best to avoid death on a daily basis, but surrounded by it? By insects, no less? It made her remember the trip to Chicago, and the nightmares that had followed for months afterwards. Still, even now the bugs follow her. And now, instead of looking to eat her, or devour her soul, they were there to destroy a planet.

She coughs a bit, watching as the Berzerk Fury makes its runs. It's hopeless for that thing alone, she realizes this. It won't stop the bugs. Dammit, looks like I'm going to be working for free.

<< You're Vega in the big slagging mech? All right, kid, listen up. This is Mei-Xing, and you're about to watch some wild drek. Try not to panic, okay? >>

Despite her words and tone, Mei-Xing is far from sure of herself, but she's got nothing else to do. Just staying here might mean everyone else dies, which means no ride home. So she makes her way to the roof of her crumbling building, and starts to... dance. Surrounded by carnage, she twists, spins, and weaves a dance, sending out a mental call throughout the metaplanes. Begging a favor.

There's no clear answer at first, but the wind picks up and the earth trembles near her after a few moments. Blood streams from her nose, coating her lips and chin, and a whirlwind appears in the air, as the earth cracks and brings a building down near her. She's never summoned spirits this powerful before, she's never needed to. But from the whirlwind surges forth a massive, serpentine dragon, made of dark clouds and twisting wind. From the ground erupts a massive stone Titan, maybe thirty feet in height.

She collapses to her knees, coughing and clutching at her head. "Drek. Just... Geek the fuckers." She gestures towards the Ohm, and the two elementals surge forth, the earth titan making a bee-line towards the tanks while the air dragon twists and flows towards the fire bugs.

They're large and powerful, but they won't be able to get the job done alone. Even an elemental spirit can fall to enough punishment. And if Mei-Xing should pass out or die, they'd go wild and start destroying everything.
