Beyond the Walls of Sleep
Slowly but surely, the nightmares have been chipping away at the mental defenses of the crew.
Even those who attempt to stay awake to avoid the nightmares find themselves too on-edge to completely concentrate their defenses.
And the Nightmare King has not been idle during all this, no. He has been slowly feeding off the crew, gathering his strength so that he may yet break free from his prison.
And he now uses that new found power, reaching out to affect the minds of the crew even in the waking world. Even those avoiding sleep will find themselves drifting in and out of their nightmares, bringing everyone a taste of despair.
After all, no one can escape the grasp of the King of Nightmares.
No one.
[ooc: OH NOEZ. As you can guess, the Nightmare King is getting stronger. As such, the crew will start experiencing waking dreams. These are much more subtle than the normal nightmares, however, and are more so depressing and surreal than actually brain-breaking. Mostly they would be miserable versions of the character's normal life, or perhaps even their life on the ship.]

"I'm sorry to hear that too," She said, bending most of the water off Xander and back into her pouch. "I talked to her for a little while. She seemed like a person I might get along with."

"Whoa, uh thanks. I'm good, wet and sloppy, but good."
He wiped a hand over his face to clear some of the water away.
"She's a good person. Tries too hard sometimes, and goes charging ahead when she shouldn't. But she's a good friend."

Katara nodded. "I'm a little like that, I guess its why you remind me of my brother. That's why I was worried seeing him say those things to you. It worried me."

He was touched by the brother comment, and smiled at that, "Thanks. You remind me of Dawn a little. That's Buff's younger sister."
I can't belive you called Katara the Chibi Usa of the Buffy universe. I'm hurt!
Katara grinned. "Thanks! that;s a compliment, right? Was she pretty strong too?"
*snugs* She got a LOT better later on, and especially in comics
Granted Katara reminded him of both Summers girls, their strength and bravery.
He then explained, "Yeah it is, she and her big sis are a lot alike, both brave and they got more strength than they know. See, one time Dawn was pretty special, and Buffy had to protect her. But then after that one time of her being Key Girl, she had to find her own way. She even briefly thought she was a Slayer like her big sister, but then she later realized it was this other girl. She understood that she wasn't the special one anymore, but she was ok with that. Dawn stepped aside, reassuring this other girl about her new responsibility, and it took a lot of guts to do that."
Re: *snugs* She got a LOT better later on, and especially in comics
Katara didn't mind this story about stepping aside for another girl to live out her destiny though. "That makes me think of Zuko's uncle, Iroh. He would probably be the first one to try and guide someone to their true calling. He had to endure many things about his nephew that had been forced there by the mistakes of the Fire Nation, and eventually Zuko found his own way. Zuko was pretty lucky to have him. I'd like to think I could eventually help people find a way to defeat this King."

She looked at him. "And I know that you understand that more than most people. That was why you were in jail, remember?"
